India-based Airlines - Terminal 2: International to International layover 2.5 hours enough?

Hello together,

am planning to transfer on a Friday on AIC331 from Bangkok (arriving at 11.05pm in Mumbai) to AIC191 from Mumbai to Newark (leaving in Mumbai at 1.30am)

Quick questions:
1) Do you think that 2.5 hours of layover is enough? (Terminal 2 to Terminal 2)
2) Where do I find flight stats fro AIC331 that can indicate "on timeness" of this flight?
3) Would you take this connection if you HAD to be in EWR that same day? Or would you take another airline? I want to avoid being stuck in Mumbai for a day in case I miss the connection to EWR...

Any tips are highly appreciated! Thanks a lot!

Cheers, Sebastian

AIC? No one uses ICAO designators in everyday conversation.

2.5 hours is more than enough time in principle, but there is never any guarantee that you will get to your destination on time. The first flight could be 3 hours late, the second flight could be 12 hours late. While AI has a bad reputation, taking another airline won't necessarily help. On time on BA, I arrived 48 hours later than scheduled.

Thanks for your help. I don't mind being late a few hours (well, actually I do but I'm aware it does happen and I'm accepting that). What I want to avoid is being on a chronically delayed flight that's "known for being late" and miss the connection to EWR.

It's the reputation of AI that prompted me to ask but if I understand you right, it sounds like a "doable" connection that is not doomed from the get-go. So thanks again.

Every AI flight you take is guarenteed to be delayed by about 20 minutes at departure. This is because Indian people are mentally incapable of understanding seating assignments, so boarding always delays the flight.

However, other than the 20-30 minute delay (which often gets made up in flight), you shouldn't have any trouble with this itinerary...

Also, no Indian visa required I believe...
