The first location-based application to reward a hotel group’s loyalty program members
Accor launches A|Club Places, an innovative and unique application on Facebook that enables A|Club loyalty program members to earn bonus points.
Every time an A|Club member stays at one of the program’s 2,300 participating hotels and checks in the application, clients will be able to unlock badges.
These badges reward regularity, variety of destination, loyalty to one type of hotel, etc. Each badge enables members to earn A|Club points that can be redeemed as A|Club reward. vouchers for use in Accor hotels, with partners, or converted into airline miles.
A|Club Places is the first location-based application launched by an international hotel group that offers bonus points to its loyalty program members.
The launch of this application is part of Accor’s strategy to develop its presence on the Internet, on mobile phones and social networks. Sales through these direct distribution channels represent close to 29% of the Group’s total sales.
As for the Accor loyalty program, which was launched about three years ago, it has grown quickly. It has already 8.3 million members around the world and accounts for over 18% of sales. As part of Accor’s new brand strategy, the loyalty program will be renamed Le Club Accor Hotels in March 2012.

I'm going to give this a try later today, but I believe that not all Accor properties are participating. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be a list of those properties that are...
Still no mention of how many bonus points are on offer - the A|Club rep on Facebook was unable to offer up this information.

I could not figure out how to check-in using the application.

Yes. You need to link the A|Club Facebook application to your A|Club account by punching the number into the Facebook app. The check-ins are then made using the mobile Facebook app - you just post a location-based status update to say that you're at a particular Accor hotel.
I'm not sure if it would also work if you just updated your location using the normal web interface, as all that the A|Club places app seems to do is recognise when your status changes to show that you're at an Accor hotel. Updating my location using the mobile app, I've found that it takes around a half hour to propagate into the A|Club app.
I tried it at two different UK Novotels over the weekend (Wolverhampton and Manchester West). Both check-ins showed up in the A|Club app but are still showing as awaiting approval - it apparently takes ten days for your stay to get approved. I've got some stays in Dusseldorf and Paris coming up over the next couple of weeks, so I'll have to see how well the app works for Accor's European continental hotels.

Thanks. :) I'll be interested to see how many points one actually gets for using this (it seems to be a big secret at the moment!)
I did notice that there were multiple entries available when attempting to check-in. For example, in Manchester I could have checked in to "Novotel Hotel" or "Novotel Manchester West". I think this comes about because you are able to post 'free form' location updates to Facebook, which then get absorbed into the directory and suggested to subsequent visitors.
I would suggest that anyone using A|Club places is best off choosing the location that sounds most like the official hotel name. You can check you've got the right one by clicking through the place name on your wall, after posting your update. The places with 'official status' have a bit of spiel about the business.

So far, I've tried it at the following hotels. All have registered correctly in A|Club Places:
Novotel Wolverhampton
Novotel Manchester West
Mercure Düsseldorf City Center
The hardest one so far was Düsseldorf - tried three different entries in the list before I found the right one!
None of them have generated any points so far. Still stuck at "Awaiting".
I'm staying at MGallery St. Ermin's in London tonight, so will try it there.

So, unfortunately, this didn't work at MGallery St. Ermin's. This was despite me being very careful to make sure that I chose the place "owned" by Accor on Facebook for my check-in. :(
I have just received my first bonus points from A|Club places though. I've just had an email congratulating me on earning my first badge: the "Welcomer" (sic) badge. The reward attached to this accolade? 50 A|Club points. I'm hoping that other badges will carry more significant rewards.

Just tried to "install" the "App". Am I stupid or won't I see the App on iOS like iPhone or iPodTouch?
I have the feeling that this is a bit complicated for a lot of potential users. The install-link on the bottom of A-Club's pressinfo is redirected to a standard A-Club Facebook mobile site on iOS devices ...
So is this the way it should be done?:
After a first install on e.g. a notebook I only use the App to check if points have been been given? BUT I use a mobile device to really check-in via Facebook ("Where am I?"-function)? If WiFi is charged in a certain hotel and I do not intend to get into roaming costs or have a WiFi-only device with me, I will have to pay for using this A-Club Places toy?

Hi Southwesterner,
if you would please give me the dates of your stay, the name of the hotel and your A|Club card number, I will pass this information on to the proper department within the Accor Group to ensure that your points will be properly awarded. Accorhotels is aware of the unofficial hotel pages issue and is currently working to remove these pages from Facebook.
The 50 points, while seeming rather token in nature, I can assure you that some of the other badges are worth much, much more in terms of points awarded.
Cheers,
Christopher

Hi freshen,
If you prefer not to use hotel WiFi and already have internet access via your mobile phone operator, you will be able to take advantage of A|Club Places benefits without any additional charges. As you noted, you have to use your mobile phone to do your Facebook check-ins through the Facebook mobile app but need to connect via a computer to check your A|Club Places account, as Facebook doesn't yet allow access to third-party apps via a mobile device.
If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to let me know.

I've got the Novotel Perth Langley to get to the Awaiting status, so that seems to work (there are about three different locations to choose from!).
One thing about the badges. The text above the badges says:
"Click the pictures to discover how to unlock badges and how much bonus points they're worth"
I would disagree that the text that comes up after clicking on a badge tells you either of these things. They do not describe how to unlock, and the do not describe the number of points to be awarded.

Mercure Grosvenor Hotel Adelaide
So frustrating with this app. I'm trying the Grand Mercure Newcastle (Aust) today so will see what happens with that but I'm not hopeful.

Hi ak37,
Thanks for getting in touch. Can you please tell me if you have synchronized your A|Club account with your A|Club Places application? Also, during your stay, did you also check into A|Club Places on your mobile phone? These steps are necessary in order obtain points and win badges. In the interim, can you please provide me with the dates of your stay, your A|Club member number, proof of your stay at the hotel, such as a bill, and your full name so that I can look into the issue on my end? Can you please respond via a private message on FlyerTalk?
Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Hi perthite,
Thanks for pointing out this issue of multiple locations. We will highlight it with the appropriate department within the Accor Group. The reason little information is provided about A|Club Places is that the essence of this Facebook application is to uncover how to unlock badges and their worth as you play along. The program has a 'mystery' angle to it. I hope that helps clarify things for you and please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions.
Many thanks,
Christopher

If you stayed in all the hotels you mentioned, would please provide me with the dates of your stay and your A|Club member number so that I can check into the situation? As well, please provide me with proof of your stay at the hotel, such as the bill or another similar type of document. Can you please send me this information via private message on FlyerTalk?

Do we get a notification after a while ? Or I just have to check my profile from time to time ?

Also are you aware of whether your check-in is an eligible stay? If so, can you please provide me with your A|Club member number and the dates of your stay? Hi Scheitan,
Indeed, accrediting A|Club Places points may take some time. Concerning your questions about several propositions, be sure to note that we are currently eliminating the additional Facebook pages so that A|Club Places check-ins will become a smoother process. Also check that you have properly synchronized your A|Club account with the application. If you properly checked-in and your stay is eligible for points, you should see the status "awaiting" in the application for the stay in question and you will receive a message, stating that you have successfully unlocked a badge. If you have done so, are sure your stay is eligible for points and that you properly did an A|Club Places check-in, you should receive your points? If not, please be sure to write to me as soon as you are aware that your points have not been accredited. Please consult the A|Club Places FAQ for many of the questions you may have: http://on.fb.me/FAQAClubPlaces.
Thank you in advance for your understanding and patience.

I am currently at the Pullman Tour Eiffel in Paris (my room has rather a splendid view of the tower!)
I've checked in using Facebook places on the iPhone, but the check-in isn't showing up in the A|Club Places app when I check on the computer. This seems to be because the only location offered on the iPhone is "PULLMAN Tour Eiffel", whereas the official page is "Pullman Tour Eiffel". If I click on my check-in, using the computer, I get asked whether I meant the latter place and invited to view the official Accor place page, but there's no way I can fathom to get this to show up in places on the iPhone...
The unofficial page does appear to be linked to the official one (if I go to the official page, my check-in shows up under "Friend Activity") - but the app doesn't appear able to see this.

Thanks to Christopher 'Accor Concierge' I was able to email A|Club Places at contact[at]aclubplaces.com and they are currently looking into it - I had to send screen shots of all of my checkin's.
Again however, it shows how difficult it is to use the program - I'm again waiting for points to be added to yet another stay (a stay which had a bill of over AUD $5,000) and it's now over 2 weeks since this stay. So frustrating.

I think that no one here has EVER got their points POSTED AUTOMATICALLY :D That being said, the best thing that we could do is got POSTED on our facebook. I checked-in four times and all of them were posted on my Facebook but none of them got the points. It seems that Accor is trying to use us as promotion tools for their properties in Facebook since other friends would be able to see our location status which mentioned one of Accor hotels. It does take a while. My first check-in was on 27 January and I received the "Welcomer" badge on 8 February. I'm rapidly approaching ten check-ins through A|Club Places now and haven't received the five stays badge yet.
On a more positive note, the A|Club Places team have just manually added a missing check-in to my account. ^

Just got this from A|Club Places:
Dear Pablom,
We are contacting you to inform you that your stay at the ibis Newcastle and the Mercure Brisbane have been approved for A|Club Places points. Your account will be credited shortly for both stays. For your stays at the Grand Mercure Hobart Hadleys Hotel and Mercure Grosvenor Hotel Adelaide, as they are very recent hotels within the Accor Group, it will take more time to credit the account. But rest assured you will receive your points for those stays once they are registered in the system.
The hotels have now registered on my Facebook page but still waiting for the points to come through.
Thanks to Christopher for the help in getting these sorted.
Surprised at the comment about the Mercure Grosvenor Hotel Adelaide being new - I've stayed there for a few years now and it's been a Mercure!
I've tried to check in at the Sofitel Wentworth Sydney today and it's so far not registering.

Hi RJ77,
Thanks for getting back to me. The reason the check-in wasn't recognized is likely due to the fact that you check-in under a non-official Facebook Places for the hotel in question, which A|Club is working hard with Facebook to remove. The process may take some time, but A|Club is highly aware of the issue is stiving on a daily basis to fix it.
As your check-in was, however, registered on your wall, can you please send me a screen shot of your stay from your Facebook wall? If you do not know how to do a screen shot, please clickl the following link: http://en.kioskea.net/faq/141-print-screen-screen-capture-windows-mac-os-x-and-unix-linux. Once you have done this, plesse send a the screen shot to the following email address: contact@aclubplaces.com. Please be sure to include the dates of your stay as well as the full name of the hotel in question.
Once the A|Club Places team receives the information requested, your issue will be checked into and if the stay is eligible for A|Club points, you will receive the appropriate amount of A|Club Places points.
If you have any other questions or problems, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Cheers,
Chris
Hi Chris,
Thanks. I did read through the FAQ after posting the question here. Till now, it's not recognized. I find it a bit silly that one has to access the Accor Places on a PC notebook unless I'm missing something here. Why can't it be visible on a smartphone whether or not I'm recognized. :mad:The check in was posted on my wall.
I'm staying at Grand Mercure Roxy Singapore right now.

You only get points after unlocking a badge. This typically takes a few check-ins under different circumstances, or multiple check-ins at the same property. I've managed 350 points from Places, so far.
You should get 50 points for your very first check-in (the "Welcomer" badge), but it takes a fair few days after your check-in for the badge to be awarded.

Yes, I'm afraid that mine took more than 2 weeks from check-in to badge confirmation - and longer beyond that for the points to post. It certainly isn't the quickest thing going!
I've also had some stays that did not automatically post to A|Club Places. Does seem a bit hit-and-miss. A lot of the problems seem to be down to 'unofficial' place pages that don't cut across to the app. Having said that, I've checked in to 'official' Accor places that didn't show up automatically in the app (MGallery and a couple of Pullmans). Was eventually sorted out manually by the Places team though.
Sorry you're having so many problems with it. :(

Hello mgo72 and Scheitan,
I'm sorry to hear that you have been having problems using the Places by Le Club Accorhotels application. It is true that there are some bugs in the application due to non-official Facebook Places, which lead to points not being registered with the application. Unfortuntaley, on smart phones there is no way to differentiate between official and non-official Facebook Places. Places by Le Club Accorhotels stresses that it is highly aware of this problem and is currently working hard with Facebook to eliminate the non-official Places that are distrupting the smooth functioning of the application. In the meantime, we have had to request that Places by Le Club Accorhotels check-in information be sent to us for verification. We regret that the process for receiving points via this manner is lengthy, but as it is done manually, it requires several weeks or longer in some cases for points to be credited.
@mgo72: specifically regarding your missing points for your manually approved stay, I will contact the Places by Le Club Accorhotels technical team to investigate why this happened. Once I have more information, I will get back to you.
@Scheitan: did you send the necessary information to the Places by Le Club Accorhotels contact team to investigate the matter if the stays were indeed eligible for Places points?

Hello RJ77,
Thanks for writing. However, for this hotel an official Facebook Places already exists. The problem with this hotel, as with many others, is that there exist unofficial Facebook Places, which users unknowingly check-in to via the application. Such unofficial Places are being systematically eliminated from Facebook, but the process may take some time, unfortunately.
Hope this helps and thanks again.

The hotel's I've been at are:
• Mercure Hobart
• Novotel Melbourne on Collins
• Novotel Canberra
• Novotel Brisbane
• Rockford Adelaide
• Novotel Perth Langley
• Novotel Darwin Atrium
• Sofitel Wentworth Sydney
• Grand Mercure Hobart Hadleys Hotel and Apartments
Thinking I should just give up

I was told by the Places by Le Club Accorhotels support team that they responded to you via email about this specific issue that you posted here.
Thanks Chris
They have contacted me - but I just don't know why it takes months for stays to credit. Some of the reasons - that hotels just don't have FB registered yet, doesn't hold true for all stays because I have now stayed in some properties multiple times and one stay will credit but the rest won't.
It's just such a bad customer experience for everyone.
Anyway, maybe one day it will work.

Hi PabloM,
Thanks a lot for writing back. Once again, I sincerely regret to hear that you are so thoroughly disappointed by the application.
I would like to stress that providing feedback for instance that some hotels work, others work sporadically or others not at all helps us become aware of glitches in the application, which should then be corrected. This information I will communicate to the application's technical team.
I would like to point out that Le Club Accorhotels is highly aware of the problems and concerned about the complaints associated with the application, and it is working hard to eliminate all of the kinks. Rest assured that on a progressive basis these problems will be resolved and the application will work more smoothly as time goes forward.
As for why it takes a long time for points to be credited after they have been approved, the process is done manually and across a couple of departments within Le Club Accorhotels. Also, if points have been credited for a check-in at a hotel for which an official Facebook Places has yet to be created, missing points won't be credited until the official Places has been created by Facebook. Therefore, it can be related to a couple of different factors, all of which can create a more lengthy process.
Thank you once again for being such a loyal user of the application and for sharing your experience with us.
Best wishes,
Chris

Question: Is ANYONE having ANY success at getting Places to work?
My recent stays at Novotel Canberra and Novotel Langley Perth did not show up in the Places. Staying at the Ayers Rock Resort (Desert Gardens a Member Of Novotel Hotels) this weekend, and not holding much hope!
Novotel Langley Perth did work previously.
As memntioned up thread, I did get Pullman Auckland to work in the application. On the downside, it was apparently a non qualifying stay :)

Hi perthite,
Thanks again for this information, and I'm sorry to hear that you have had problems using the application. Can you please send contact the Places by Le Club Accorhotels team at contact@aclubplaces.com and send them a screen shot of your failed check-ins that are on your Facebook wall, your Le Club number, full name, the exact dates of your stays and the full names of the corresponding hotels?
Please keep me posted about your experiences using the application, and if you encounter any more problems, I'll do what I can to help get them resolved.
All the best and thank you for your patience,
Chris

Your team seems great at collecting information but poor at resolving the issue or crediting the extra points manually in lieu of a resolution.

Yea, I've given up with the Le Club Places either. It's not comfortable updating where I was going on Facebook all the time; even some of my relatives commented that I was too show-off by posting which hotel where I stayed :(
However, the points only posted for my first stay while the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th were nowhere. So I decided not to post my Le Club Places anymore. 50 pts per each stay (and no points afterward) was not worth comparing to embarrassment that I face. :td:

So after a lot of tos and frosof emails, I finally received a confirmtation form LeClub Places team
"We are writing to inform you that your missing points have been approved for your stays at Novotel Singapore Clarke Quay Singapore, Novotel Seoul Ambassador Gangnam Seoul, Grand Mercure Roxy Singapore and Novotel Beijing Xin Qiao, Grand Mercure Shanghai Zhongya by ACCOR Shanghai Beijing. However your stay at Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit Bangkok was ineligible for Places by Le Club Accorhotels points.
That was 3 days ago, so I finally logged in to my FB on laptop (frustratingly, one can't access the Places app on the mobile FB). tada, only Novotel Seoul appeared on my checkin, and my points still stand at 50 (for that welcome badge teaser). I guess one out of five is not too bad. REALLY? C'mon. Accor, after all that stress of sending details and to and fro and a confirmation email to boot? I give up.

Check again in about 3 months - you might have some show up by then. I think so many people are emailing them asking for them to be approved that there must be a mountain of manual processing to be done.

Hi RJ77,
I'm sorry to hear that you are disappointed with the Places by Le Club Accorhotels application.
I checked into your complaint, and yes, you are correct that four out of the five hotels were not credited. However, it should have been mentioned that the points won't be credited for those hotels until Facebook creates the official Places for those properties, as they do not exist, which prevents the application from attributing points for those stays. Once the official Places are created for those properties, you will then be automatically credited your missing points.
I sincerely apologize for this inconvenience and confusion.
If you have any other questions or comments, please do not hesitate to write.
Best regards,
Chris

What a revelation. Over 10,000 people who checked in there must be mistaken. Take for example, the FB page on Grand Mercure Roxy has a full on hotel promotion going on.
http://www.facebook.com/GrandMercureRoxyHotel
And you're saying it's not the official one? But then what do I know. If, using my example, 4 out of 5 places are not ready yet, why did Accor bother to start this program. Surely one would anticipate such problems would arise?

Hello Icarusian and SouthWesterner,
Thank you for contacting me.
I regret to hear that you encountered problems using the application.
First, can you please tell me if your stay is eligible for standard Le Club Accorhotels points? To find out the answer to this question, please consult our Places by Le Club Accorhotels FAQ at: http://on.fb.me/PlacesbyLeClubAccorhotelsFAQ.Also, can you please tell me if you see a check-in either in the application or on your Facebook wall of the stay in question?
If this is the case and your stay is eligible for Le Club Accorhotels points, can you please send me by e-mail a screen shot of the check-in, indicating in the e-mail your pseudo so that I can trace you more easily?
If you do not know how to do a screen shot, please consult the following link for an explanation: http://en.kioskea.net/faq/141-print-screen-screen-capture-windows-mac-os-x-and-unix-linux.
Once the technical team receives the screen shot, they will check whether the stay is indeed valid for Places by Le Club Accohotels points, and then contact you with a response.
I will also require your membership number and the exact dates of your stay.
Should your stay be approved, your points will be manually credited, which may take up to several weeks.
If in the meantime you have any other questions or problems, please do not hesitate to contact me. I hope you will continue using the application, unlock badges and win points!
Thank you in advance for your understanding and patience as well as your kind help.

Hello all FlyerTalk members,
Many of you have shared your experiences and opinions concerning the Places by Le Club Accorhotels mobile phone application. Following the launch of the application, many of you have faced serious problems using it, notably not being credited points for eligible stays at Accor participating hotels.
Le Club Accorhotels has heard your complaints and is very concerned about your unsatisfactory experiences using the application.
The problem of missing points is mainly related to users checking in to unofficial Facebook Places at Accor participating hotels, which were not created by the company, but by individual users. Unofficial Facebook Places are not registered with the application, thus leading to failed check-ins and to missing points.
Unfortunately, at the moment, when users check-in via their mobile phones, apart from choosing a Facebook Places which bears the correct and full name of the hotel, there is no way to determine of the Places is unofficial.
Highly aware of this problem, Le Club Accorhotels and Facebook are currently working to eliminate all unofficial Places so that in the future strictly the official Facebook Places for Accor properties will appear in your search on Facebook Places. We, however, do not have information as to when this process will be complete.
Additionally, new Accor properties often create their official Facebook Places months after their opening. Clearly, this can also create a major obstacle when attempting to check-in.
In the meantime, should you continue to experience failed check-ins for stays which are eligible for Le Club Accorhotels points, we ask that you please send a screen shot of the check-in from your Facebook wall, your member number, your Flyertalk username, the exact name of the hotel as well as the exact dates of the stay to contact@aclubplaces.com so that we manually, if necessary, provide points for your missing stays.
We hope this helps clarify some of the problems you have been facing using the application.
Many thanks for your kind attention as well as for using the Places by Le Club Accorhotels mobile phone application.
With kindest regards,
Chris

perhaps you could just include 'official' somewhere in the title for the place - that is something you (Accor) could do right now to make it easier for all, before the longterm solution from working with facebook to have unofficial places removed.

I've just had a go for the first time with Accor Places.
2 days ago, I tried to check in at Sofitel Macau. I finally managed to find the official page and it registered as 'Awaiting' on the Places App. I find it very bizarre though that although you need to check in on a mobile phone, you can't actually see the Places App via a mobile phone and have to go to a notebook to see if it worked. Not convenient. Anyway, Macau is now showing as awaiting in the App but the staff (not even the IT staff) are not aware of how it works at all.
Now I'm at Pullman King Power Bangkok. I tried to check in again using my mobile. I checked with the reception that it is the correct facebook page. This time it doesn't even display 'Awaiting' in the App. I have tried this several times and now the hotel receptionist is kindly trying to call the Bangkok Accor line to see what the problem is. She said that they know about Accor Places (which is a start) and that quite a few guests have tried using it. It seems that not a single guest has been successful yet. They are trying to contact Accor to see what the problem is here.
Oh and for some odd reason, when I tried to check in at Pullman King Power, the application now displays Sofitel Macay THREE TIMES as awaiting with the same check in date.
My question is, what should I do? Probably give up. It is wasting my time. I guess I will have to send screen shots to Accor before the 'Awaiting' disappears and it's too late? And what if it doesn't even display in the App?
This application is a complete mess and it is obvious that it hasn't been tested properly before being launched. Accor should have trialed it with a small group of its hotels first.
As a Platinum member and loyal customer, I am frustrated.
Has anyone been successful at any of the Bangkok hotels?

While I fully realise that our Accor Concierge can't really influence the process directly, I find it incredible how much time Accor hotels need to open their official Facebook pages. For God's sake, I could do it in 15 minutes, photo editing included. Yet it takes them months (and counting).

The app has been broken for me since early May. Haven't had anything post since then (including for stays at hotels that showed up in the app previously) and haven't had any manual adjustments applied either.
By contrast, the location-based promotion that American Express are currently running on Fouresquare has been faultless. Perhaps a change of platform is in order.

Hi Chris
Thanks for your help on this. I do however need to challenge this statement. I haven't had any success with this app working since maybe March (at about 15 different properties in Aust, Thailand and Indinesia) - and I know that for the majority of hotels I'm checking into its to the official page. For some of them, it's now multiple check-ins and it worked the first time but wont work for subsequent check-ins. Even when the hotel advised me of the official page to check in on for some hotels it hasn't worked.
I know you guys are trying to fix it but I'm getting tired of sending emails through for stays to be credited for a measly number of points. Out of all my stays now I think it's only 850 points that I've gained - hardly worth all the hassle!
Cheers

Hello PabloM,
Thanks a lot for your feedback. I honestly sympathize with your frustration. As you rightly mention, the application is, unfortunately and simply, not perfect.
Sending an e-mail or Facebook message regarding failed check-ins remains the only option available for the moment. I recognize this is an imperfect response, but it is the only way not to miss out on bonus points ;)
Without going into technical details, which are beyond my remit, I can assure that Le Club Accorhotels is currently working hard in order to remove the shortcomings in the application, as they genuinely realize that the present situation is overly cumbersome and tiring for users.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Best wishes.

Also I sent email to contact[at]aclubplaces.com with pic of the error. I’m good for now and will report any issues once I check in at Sofitel in LA next week and in Dijon, FRA in Oct.
Please let me know if your dev team needs help to troubleshoot this error (from the client’s site) as it could be FB API or “Places” bug. I’m just curious and would like this “Le Club Places” to work perfectly.

Thanks for the information and for the offer of help.
There have been some problems associated with the application, which has led to a fair amount of frustration on the part of its users. Le Club Accorhotels is aware of this problem and is working on sorting out the bugs in the application. However, related to the "unable to register" message, it could just be a one-off issue. It seems to happen only from time to time.
Please keep me posted.

Does anyone know how long the facebook app normally shows the status as "Awaiting" for, if it's going to work? I checked in over a week ago during a stay, and the facebook app quite quickly showed the hotel with a status of Awaiting. (I gather having it recognise the hotel is half the battle...).
However, it's now over a week later, and the status hasn't changed from Awaiting. The points for the stay have posted to my account (after having to go through the Report Missing Points route as they didn't show up, grr), but the facebook app doesn't seem to have noticed. Should I keep waiting, or do I need to email in to have it fixed?

Hi Gagravarr,
It takes a bit longer than receiving standard Le Club points, but so long as a status is showing either 'Awaiting' or 'OK', everything is fine. If it disappears, then it means the stay was ineligible for Places points, which doesn't happen too often. I may stand corrected by those in this thread, however. ;)
If you encounter any problems, let me know, and I'll tip off the tech team.
Thanks,
Chris

After spending 2 weeks showing as Awaiting, they entries have now vanished! No errors, no information, no points, just gone :(

Does anyone know if “Points Accelerator” is working for FACEBOOKPLACES or EUROPCAR for example? In other words I am curious if “50%/75%/100% additional Le Club Accorhotels points” will be calculated as well or do the Points Accelerator only work if you physically stay in hotel?

Negative. Bonus points only apply to hotel stays.

Stayed at the LHR Sofitel on Thursday night, checked in, lots of Sofitels to choose from on Facebook, picked the most popular ones, and nothing.
How hard can it be for Sofitel to make it obvious which is their official venue?

My first stay using the facebook app worked perfectly but the second one did not at all. Checked-in via places on iOS (as it was an airport ibis there was no other place, which could have been the "right" one; it must have been the hotel's own site) but the stay never showed up, even not as "awaiting" or anything else. Now, Accor Concierge helped me very much, at first there was a problem concerning ibis stays (only in France only on weekends, but stay was in Germany) with the A-Club-Places-team (they are obviously still called A-Club) but after all and two weeks I finally received my points. So again "Chris-Concierge", thank you very much for your help and support. And I hope that they will get all sorted out. But :-) I will try my third check-in on the weekend. Alors, will be updating after stay.

I'm in the middle of a European trip, and my check-ins are showing up in the app as "awaiting"... We shall se where we get!
However one problem with "ibis London City" (note small i )..... Facebook check in only gives you the option for "Ibis London City" (note Capital I ), which when you find the page, redirects to the small i page. My check in is not showing in the places app, probably due to the redirect.

I'll just add that it's been many months since the introduction of Places, and most hotels who didn't have Facebook pages back then still don't have them. I'm really amazed that it's such a problem for hotels to open a Facebook page, which takes 5 minutes a week to maintain.

News on Facebook yesterday: Le Club Accorhotels now also available for Smartphones (not only used as check-in via places): http://bit.ly/PlacesMobileApp
Only tried it once this night, finally one seems to be able to see the check-ins formerly only visible via Mac/PC and not via Smartphone itself.

I stayed in an Accor property last night, and after giving up with the hotel's broken wifi and using mobile broadband, I managed to checkin. It only took two checkins to find the one that the Le Club Places app recognised (yey for hotels with multiple Facebook places entries!) This evening, I got an email from Accor with the subject "Your stay has been approved!", which left me feeling very impressed with the efficiency of this time! Turns out not to be that at all, it was instead an email from Accor letting me know that they had finally managed to credit my stay from the 1st of August. Last night's stay is still pending, which is more what I'd expect. Just checked into an Accor hotel in France, on doit voir...
That said, it least it shows it is worth complaining to the magic email address when the Facebook App misbehaves, as if you have enough patience (and remind them enough) your stay should be recognised eventually!

Sadly, I have to disagree... . :(
I recently had 7 stays at Accor properties in SE Asia, during which I checked in to the official pages (I even confirmed that with the receptionists):
Sofitel Metropole Hanoi - worked great (and an awesome hotel, too).
Novotel Halong Bay - did not work.
Mercure Danang - did not work.
La Residence Hotel & Spa Hue hue - did not work (superb hotel!).
Sofitel Siem Reap - worked great (lovely hotel).
Sofitel Phnom Penh - worked great.
Sofitel Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit - did not work (horrible, horrible hotel!).
So only 3 check-ins worked (I got a 50 points welcome badge and 800 points for 3 Sofitel check-ins).
I first wrote A|Club Places (contact@aclubplaces.com) on September 20th with all the information and Facebook check-ins print screens.
After 8 days of nothing hapenning, I wrote them again, asking for a status and got he following reply the very next day:
Thank you for contacting us again. We sincerely apologize for the delay. It may take a few weeks for the matter to be checked into and resolved. Your check-ins were sent to our tech team and will be looked into shortly.
Once again, we sincerely apologize for the long process, and we thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.
Have a nice day
"A few weeks"??? OMG, oh well, I had no choice but wait.
On October 11th, I got he following email from A|Club Places:
Thank you for your kind patience.
We are happy to tell you that your stay at the Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit has been approved and will show in the application shortly.
However, your stays at the La Residence Hotel & Spa Hue, the Mercure Danang and the Novotel Halong Bay have been approved by our tech team, but will only appear in the application once their official Places have been created by Facebook.
Thank you for using the Places by Le Club Accorhotels application.
Have a nice day
I then wrote them:
Hello and thank you for your reply.
The actual appearance of the stays on the application is of less importance to me, obviously.
What about the actual points gained by the check-ins?
Thank you
To which they wrote back:
Thank you for quickly getting back to us.
To respond to your question about earning points, successful check-ins do not necessarly convert into Places points. Check-ins may or may not unlock badges which all worth different amount of points. Unlocking badges is based on specific criteria, like variety of destination or frequency of stays.
If you want to know more about how you can unlock badges and how the application works, we recommend you to read our dedicated FAQ at the following link:
http://on.fb.me/PlacesbyLeClubAccorhotelsFAQ.
If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to get back to us.
Best wishes
DUH, but what about he points I could get by the check-ins that were already approved but not "certified" by Facebook?
I wrote them again:
Hello again.
This is exactly my point – one cannot possibly guess which check-ins will unlock a badge. For example, the badge of the suitcase with the number 5 on it – probably means 5 check-ins, so how come I have not unlocked it?
Can you please decipher for me the criteria for each badge?
Thank you
To which they replied:
Thank you for getting back to us so quickly.
The Places by Le Club Accorhotels is a game, and unlocking badges is supposed to be a surprise. The criteria are supposed to be a bit of a mystery. Only after having made successful check-ins will you learn whether you have unlocked badges and won points.
We thank you for using the application and we wish you good luck unlocking badges and winning points!
Have a good day
By that time, I was really frustrated, so I wrote them a detailed email:
Hello.
Yes, I understand this completely, but why am I supposed to wait for the "updated" versions of some hotel's pages to get badges?
As far as I, as a customer and guest of the hotels, is concerned – I did what was expected of me – I checked in to all Accor properties to the places that were given to me by the receptionists.
Your reply "However, your stays at the La Residence Hotel & Spa Hue, the Mercure Danang and the Novotel Halong Bay have been approved by our tech team, but will only appear in the application once their official Places have been created by Facebook" is unacceptable, as you wrote it yourselves – my stays and check-ins have been approved by your tech team, so kindly ask the tech team to add my stays to the application.
I've contacted the hotels AGAIN and these are the official Places pages of the hotels on Facebook. They even update the pages with photos and special sales for those hotels:
Novotel Halong Bay - https://www.facebook.com/NovotelHaLongBay
Mercure Danang - https://www.facebook.com/MercureDanangHotel
La Residence Hotel & Spa Hue official Place - https://www.facebook.com/laresidence.hue
Their reply came shortly after:
Thank you for your quick response.
We appreciate your frustration, but we would like to point out that the hotels you contacted have created pages that are not recognized as official by Facebook and the Places by Le Club Accorhotels application. While the hotels may update an account, making it seem like an official Facebook Places, the Places for these hotels have not been officially registered with Facebook and are therefore not in our tech team's data base.
Nevertheless, we have documented your unofficial Places check-ins and will add them to your account once the official Places have been created by Facebook.
Thank you for your kind patience and understanding.
Oh, so they actually "appreciate my frustration". How lovely!!!
How about if instead of appreciate my frustration, you actually DO something about it?
How on h@ll can someone know if an official Facebook page of the hotel where the hotel (and Accor) posts updates, sales details, photos etc. is not an "official" Places page?
And what if there will never be an "official" page for a certain hotel (although my check-in was already approved)?
I'm not one of the (many) Accor bashers here, but this is reall BS customer service, IMHO.
I officially gave up.
Good luck to everyone trying to figure this out. :)

The first week of October I stayed at “Sofitel Dijon La Cloche” and “Mercure Hotel Wings Frankfurt Airport”. During check- in via smartphone, my Facebook places displayed duplicate “awaiting” line and also the extra line information duplicate “awaiting” and “OK” line from my previous stay in Sofitel, Los Angeles. Also, once checked in the Mercure hotel was not showing at all.
I sent email to roxane-company (they helped me previously to resolve synchronization problem). I waited for about a week to no avail, I got no responses. The only thing that I saw was that “awaiting” check-in line was removed.
I sent another inquiry with a question to confirm that is a possible application bug or may be these two hotels are no longer supported by Facebook Places, and again – no response.
“Accor Concierge” Please let me know if you want to see this email communication. I just need to confirm to the members of the forum if these hotels are not support or this is just a fluke on the Facebook Places

The big mistake they made was using facebook. They could have developed the application on their own Accor website and then forced people to 'like' facebook to create the same marketing effect. I've been waiting 3 months since a stay for the hotel to register its official facebook page. I can register one in minutes, why can't hotels?

The idea of the program is very interesting but I think this is not real Accor’s fault. I, personally, put the responsibility for this on Roxane Company as they didn’t deliver a good final product and is no longer providing a good support. Also, another possibility is that the Facebook is messing up with the product.

Hi xorik,
I'm very sorry to hear that the Places team didn't help you resolve your issue. You did the right thing by contacting me. If you could kindly share with me all the information needed to help you, I'll be sure to get in contact with them.
Regarding your comments about The Roxane Company, I'm sorry you think they are at fault for this issue. However, publishing such comments without being sure they are at fault may be unfairly detrimental to the company. If you would like to discuss your view in greater detail about the application and the agency that runs it by sending me a private message, I would appreciate it.
I looking forward to hearing back from you.
Take care,

Thank you for reply . Yesterday I got an email from “Places by Le Club Accorhotels team” and they are saying that “..they may look into the matter…”. Today I checked Facebook and found multiple duplicate lines - all with “OK” status but without accumulation or open badges. Very weird.
As for my comments - I have to disagree with you. First of all – all email communication was sent on behalf of "Places by Le Club Accorhotel” and I got them directly from Roxane Company (it is very easy to trace). I just don’t want to post all of the names.
Secondly - each member is entitled to his/her own opinion. This is my take and I’m not enforcing it on anyone for everyone to agree to. This is no different from comments/feedback that people are posting on Facebook or TripAdvisor about hotel chains or airlines. Again - this is a member constructive criticism but should be taken by a company with a grain of salt. It gives an opportunity to re-look at the efficiency and effectiveness of the processes and make tweaks if needed.
I can definitely forward you all email communication. I almost gave up on this program like many other members on this forum. Can you PM me your email?

Hi Andy,
Thank you for writing back.
On your first point, if you see 'Awaiting' in the application, then everything is working fine. Once the check-in has been approved, it will show an 'OK'. Please understand, however, approved check-ins don't automatically lead to unlocked badges and points. The application is supposed to have a surprise element to it. Badges are unlocked according to several criteria, and each badges is worth a different amount of points :)
On your second point, you are perfectly correct that all members are entitled to express themselves as they wish. Accor Concierge is here to listen to what all members have to say so that we can identify problems with a view to making improvements to the programme.
I suggested communicating in private in order to avoid having a technical discussion about the application on the forum, which may be of little interest to others. I would be happy to transmit your comments about the inadequacies of the application to the company which coordinates with the brand to provide it to the programme's members. The brand and its partner company realize that there are a couple of shortcomings with the application. In fact, an updated version is now available which addresses many of the problems users have faced in the past.
In addition, our lines of communication remain open to those who have constructive advice or ideas to provide. Should you like to share any you may have, please do send me a private message here on FlyerTalk.
Thanks for your attention.
Best regards,
Chris

Hi everyone,
After several months many of you have posted comments about the Places by Le Club Accorhotels application. We have listened to your remarks, and in turn we have made improvements to the latest version of the Facebook application.
We have now introduced an updated version which allows users to use the Places by Le Club Accorhotels application on smartphones! To avoid many of the problems users have faced using the application, it now only hones in on the correct Places which are within your exact location. This will prevent users from selecting non-official Facebook Places and therefore, only the official Accor hotel Facebook Places.
If you would like to add this app to your Facebook account so that you can use it on your phone, please click the following link: http://bit.ly/PlacesMobileApp or type "Places by Le Club Accorhotels" in Facebook's search function.
Good luck unlocking badges and winning points, and as always, happy travels!

Another reason to change the system so you only ever have one card with one membership number, regardless of status changes.
Is there any benefit with issuing new cards ??
Just seems a recipe for confusion to me.
yorkboy24
Nov 13, 12, 5:33 pm
It's even more complicated with Accor Advantage Plus too as they need to issue another card each year. One year, I had 3 different cards and had to wait 2-4 weeks for each one - I think they send them from France!! Keeping the same card should be fine - the magnetic strip will tell the hotel your status when they swipe it. Adv Plus might be more complicated but I was happy with having a separate card for that before.
fredandgingermad
Nov 14, 12, 5:00 am
I can understand issuing different cards because each says Classic, Silver, Gold and then Plat but would be much easier to keep the same membership number :)
I know when i stayed at Sofitel i was Silver when i booked but was Gold by the time i stayed with them and they insisted that they would only recognise the status at time of booking although the bonus points awarded reflected being Gold

Excellent, I'll be more than happy to test this rule of theirs after my platinum status expires with bookings already made. I'm not hoping for consistency, though.

Just don't stay at Sofitel LGW, a review from someone else on here in the experiences thread just before i stayed there meant i wasn't too hopeful as it was and their attitude when i checked in only backed it up, they were apologetic after i complained and had cheek to say they hope i'll go and stay again soon...

I know when i stayed at Sofitel i was Silver when i booked but was Gold by the time i stayed with them and they insisted that they would only recognise the status at time of booking although the bonus points awarded reflected being Gold
Well, they don't allocate points when you book, only when you reach the time of your stay. So, surely they ought to recognize your status at the time of your stay, not when you book?
Moreover, if you pre-pay your stay on a no-cancellation/no-refund basis, I can't see why you don't get allocated points at the time of booking?
I would be nice to hear from Chris on this issue, as well as the merits of issuing new cards/membership numbers on each change of status.

Hi Jaunt411,
With regards to the Places by Le Club Accorhotels Facebook application, I just would like to point out that bookings already give you regular Le Club Accorhotels points. The application is simply a fun way to reward members who interact with Accor hotels through their mobile phones and Facebook.
Next, as a member number is attached to its membership card, it is necessary for the Le Club Accorhotels teams to change it every time a member is upgraded/downgraded.
Cheers,
Chris

Yes, and I'm questioning why run a system where it is necessary.
On a trip last year, I managed to attain Silver status, but I never got to see my new Silver number/card until I got home.
Now, I'm planning another trip where I will attain Gold and then Platinum but I won't see these two new cards until after I return home. All the bookings will be made before I leave home using my current Silver number, even though I'll not be Silver by the time I arrive at my later destinations.
So, then if I want to have fun and play Places, I'll have to be aware of when status (and hence number) changes are going to occur during my trip - I can only do this by counting stays and logging in so I can see the number change - as I will then have to copy these new numbers into the Places FB app. and re-synch?
And, if I have any problems for any points-related issues resulting from my trip, I'll have had 3 membership numbers in play!
I've been a member of a golf club for decades, and had numerous changes of membership category starting with Sub-Junior at age 12, but I've only ever had one membership number.
Surely as a member of Le Club Accorhotels, I could have one membership number & card that never changes?
All I see the current system offers is a little flash of "more prestigious" colour on the new card, which I consider a bit trite considering the issues stated above.

Hi Jaunt411,
Presenting the card is not necessary if you can provide the hotel staff with your newest member number at the time of your check-in. You can find your member number by looking at your emails or even your member's account during your trip.
Regarding your concerns about the change of member numbers, as I previously mentioned, a card is linked to a unique member number. A change of status requires then a new member number.
Also, please rest assured that you can use the Places by Le Club Accorhotels Facebook application even if your member number has changed.
Please don't hesitate to contact me again if you have any other questions or problems.
Cheers,
Chris

Hi perthite,
That's unfortunate. A change of status doesn't usually have an impact on the Places by Le Club Accorohotels application.
Have you tried to merge your accounts by selecting section "Combine your various cards" at:
https://s-leclub.accorhotels.com/redirect-contact-email.action?lang=en, and then resynchronize your Places account with the newest member number?
Please contact me via private message if your badges still haven't reappeared.

Fellow FTers,
I notice most of you are involved in multiple hotel loyalty programs.
I (so far) have only been a member of Le Club Accorhotels (well, actually I've been a member twice based on their definition of membership).
Do your other programs issue new membership numbers/cards on every change of status, or is this unique to Le Club Accorhotels?
If every program does it, I won't keep labouring the point(s) why I think it's ridiculous (and having ONE lifetime membership number should be part of LCA's promised "improvements"). Actually, I won't bother regardless.
If there are programs that don't do it, I'll re-orientate my upcoming travels around one of them.
Thanks.

Many airline programmes issue new membership numbers when your status changes.

I have tried the Places check-in for the first time, and it wasn't smooth.
No problems getting Places app synch'd on FB.
Then, had a week-end ibis stay. Using FB on my phone, checked-in using only FB page found with the hotel's name.
On Monday when I got home, checked Places app and found no "awaiting status" entry for this stay. So, contacted them to point this out, and supplied a screenshot of my check-in when requested. Pointed out I was not a regular FB user.
One week after my stay, I got confirmation that my stay would be approved, and at the end of the week it appeared in the Places app.
And, I have the Welcome badge for my troubles.
Accor Places team was very helpful, but frankly if it doesn't become reliably automatic, I'm not sure I could be bothered with it.

While I was waiting, I joined Club Carlson as "Red", then took up a Status Match to move up to Silver, and no change of membership number happened.

A datapoint on the delay in places points posting - I stayed at a hotel on 17/10/2012, and checked in using the app. On the 1st of November, the stay finally changed to OK in the facebook app, and I was awarded two badges for it (Welcomer - first checkin @ 50 points, Birdie - checkin at an Accor Golf Hotel @ 300 points). Today, 26th December, the points finally credited to my Le Club account!
One might claim it's a Christmas present for Accor :) Others might cynically wonder why it takes 2 weeks for stays to confirm in the app, and almost 2 months for the points to come through....

I cynically wonder why it's taken 11 months for some of my stays to appear. Apparently it takes 3 years for a hotel to create a place on FB.

Dear member!
We have noticed that you haven’t logged into the app over the last two months. If you don’t return to the app within 10 days, your account should be unactivated.
After this period, the app’s access to your check-ins will expire and your new check-ins will not be registered.
See you here right away here http://apps.facebook.com/accor_places

Seriously!!! I'm still waiting for about 10 check-ins to still come up on my account - one of them from December, and here I am getting an email saying they are going to unactivate my account!!! And I know for a fact that I at least logged into the app in December - so it's definitely not 2 months since I logged into the FB app.
This is hitting the bottom of customer service and loyalty.
I'm staying at the Pullman Sydney Hyde Park on Friday night (a hotel that I've stayed at before and still waiting for the checkin to appear in my account and I can guarantee that it won't work either.
So I'm assuming now you have to stay at a Le Club hotel every 2 months for this app to work!

That app is pretty close to useless!:td:
I've yet to receive any credit for the check-in I did 3 months ago. Of course, the hotel had no updated official page on facebook since it had been been previously flagged under another Accor brand hotel (from a Novotel to Mercure), so only the old page was there for you to check in to, while the one available was not the official one.

It's been so long time ago since I've never check-in using this applications for my stays since my previous stay rarely posted and actually I have avoided posting my check-in activities on Facebook because not many people on my Facebook account has the same opportunity to stay at various hotels and I didn't like to show off on my facebook for such things.
However, since I was just recently downgraded to Gold and I thought that the application would be better so I checked in on Facebook during my recent trip to Japan hoping for extra points but when I returned home, I got nothing..the only things that I got are comments on my facebook which is the thing that I would like to avoid.....Well, got nothing in points and got many comments on my Facebook are things that I never expected to. Just change your privacy settings for the app so it's only you who sees the checkin. I'm the same, don't like to promote where I'm staying because people react to it (doesn't matter that I make most of my bookings during the 50% off sales) so I keep checking in (have earnt 3,800 points so far from the app) but people don't know where I'm staying.
