Hi,
Wondering if anyone has previous experience upgrading from economy to business when checking in at the airport.
Round trip for 2 adults and 1 infant.
JFK --> ICN
departing mid-Feb for 2 weeks.
i noticed on the seating chart via orbitz that about 65% of the seats are vacant. wondering if there is a modest fee i can pay upon check-in to upgrade.

From my experience from KE, upgrade is literary same as paying fare difference.

I will be flying KIX-ICN-FRA as business award and would like to pay $$$ to upgrade to First. What fare difference is there for KIX-ICN segment if I am on award? Normal fares have like $200 diff, which I would gladly pay.

Business awards can only be upgrade to First awards by paying difference in mileage. Depending on your host program, some may also charge a reticketing fee.

My host program does not offer first class awards at all...
So my only chance is to inquiry at the airport, and even that has a low chance of actually working I guess.

You will not be able to pay $$ for business upgrade award to first upgrade award.. But you can always kindly ask at the gate.

Your ticket needs to be reissued for First Class awards, but KE cannot reissue tickets from other airlines, only your host airlines can reissue it. You can ask at the airport but your chance of success is no higher than winning the lottery.

When I asked a KE agent before if I bought an upgradable fare in Y how many miles it would cost to upgrade to First, I was told 100K. Pretty steep as later on I was able to book 2 BE awards using SM for 120K a piece JFK>ICN>MNL.
That being said, like earlier, your chances of being able to do that are next to zero, but, it never hurts to ask.
