Greetings allnfor 2012. Hope not too late to wish you all the best for there rest of the 11 months to come :)

I do apologize in advance if this question has been posted/answered previously but my search didn't show up a match.

Does LX offer the option to select seats after the reservation has been made off-line? I usually fly J class long haul international by LX and my tickets are usually done by the travel agency (which is rather incompetent but I have no choice to use as it is the corporate agency). I would love to be able to hop on LX website and have the option to "manage my booking" -- specifically select my preferred seat, add a meal request, update my SEN nr (which the agent very often forgets to add), etc. I do this all time with EK after the ticket is issued by the agent and it offers so much personal freedom to be able to do so. The most important is the seating.

Is such an option already available on LX for tickets not booked on-line?

If not, I do hope LX considers this feature.

Thanks!

Thanks

If you have the Amadeus booking code, you can pull up your LX reservations on the LH and M&M sites and allocate seats etc.

However, this will only work if your TA provides you with the Amadeus booking code, not with the LX specific one. There are many threads on how to work around this by calling etc.

The Swiss seat selection thru LH website is horribly broken, be careful with it. It's much safer/better to call Swiss to choose your seat.

This has been promised for years and never implemented, its like the behavior of a third world airline, however Christian promised that seat selection would finally come in 2012, hopefully its true

The same as with the Swisscards Miles&More credit cards which beside charging a hefty 2.5 % for foreign currency transactions promise for years to get an online service for checking the movements. Of course still not in place. It is amazing how my country is living on a cushion of things achieved in the past without looking into the future. Sad, but symptomatic.

Dear all

There are definately changes and an implementation coming up in 2012. Unfortunately, I cannot yet give you an exact timeline yet, but it looks like 2012 is confirmed by our respective departments.

Kind regards,
Gianrico

+1. Swisscard service is absolutely pathetic. They told me that they like to have "personal contact" with their clients so they're not implementing an online tool

Even Switzerland as a country is much more behind actual developments than its image still mirrors. The overrated currency and the general slowlyness are just examples. All is average at best :o.

You should call them. This will also open up seats that are blocked for StarAlliance Gold/Miles & More equivalent; the agent I spoke with recently offered these without me asking for it.

I honestly don't get how their seating policy works. I'm Senator and called Swiss in Switzerland to get seat assignments on a purchased ticket in C to ORD. I use Expertflyer so I can see which are the blocked seats. I asked for seats on the right side and she told me " that's not possible". I asked even if I'm Senator and she said yes, not possible. who exactly are these seats blocked for then? Arrrgh.

Not only do they make you jump through hoops for something as banal as a seat assignment, but then when you call it still doesn't work.

You have to call LX with your confirmation number to select your seat.

?? How else can you ask for a seat assignment without a confirmation number? Or am I missing something?

AFAIK no K seats are blocked though A seats are. But as SEN you should be able to book A seats if you wanted to. I'd call again and ask exactly which seats are available.

SWISS can locate your reservation if you give them your name and flight number/date.

Pretty much any airline will be able to pull up your reservation if you give them your name, flight number and date.

I have to do this all the time* and have yet to experience an airline that couldn't / wouldn't do it.

*usually not for myself, but for colleagues who are stuck somewhere and can just remember their name, destination and airline and want me to take care of their situation ;)

My question was asking why blocked seats are not assigned to Senators. She was accessing my pnr and told me that a seat I wanted (shown as blocked per Expertflyer) was not available to me, even as a Senator. Is she correct and if so, for whom are these seats blocked? The whole process is a PITA.

I know, but you also asked how you could get a seat assignment without a confirmation number - I answered quoting that question.

In my experience, I always had access to all (blocked) seats when a SEN number was in the bookings. Have you tried calling again?

Things that in life are supposed to be easy, LX complicates to no end. So I called, firmly reminding them that I'm a Senator and would like 6k outbound and 6a on the return. After waiting 5 minutes while she had to check someplace. Came back and told me those seats are only assigned at the airport. ...

Why is this?

Which country's number are you calling? Have you tried calling Basel?

My first call was to Switzerland, the second within Poland. Are you saying that the seats aren't supposed to be left to airport assignments only? I can't seem to get a handle on what the policy, in fact, is.

Oddly enough i went through a similar situation only yesterday, and in Poland. I have a SWISS ticket for travel in October on (mainly) LH flights. LH ticket desk at WAW easily got my Amadeus equivalent to the unhelpful LX PNR, but couldn't give me the seats I wanted. They were "not available".

In the Bolero lounge I logged onto M&M, used the new Amadeus code to pull up my reservation ...... and immediately got the seats I wanted.

@PolandExpat:

I have booked LX18 ZRH-EWR in C.
I have sent an e-mail to LX (via contacts on swiss.com) asking to reserve 5K (right side in the Stübli) an stating that I am SEN (I also provided my SEN number in the mail).
Within 48 hours I got an answer - no problem at all to get 5K.

Just to add to the mystery. ;) I am flying BHX-ZRH-PEK in about two weeks and had to shift my dates a few times. On one of the dates that I subsequently had to change again, 4A was taken. I already knew that from KVS, which showed the remaining seats in row 4 blocked. I called the CH SEN line and asked for 4K. Agent said no can do, it is not available. He could not say why but he was surprised, too. He said it could become available later, possibly at check-in. 4D/G were available for HON/SEN though shown blocked on KVS.

I'm thinking this is the best thread. Booked via Orbitz, EWR-ZRH-JNB and etc., LX stock, first two legs on LX, rest of my flights on SA/LH. I see the problems with selecting a seat online, per the rest of this thread, but I can't even add my reservation to a Swiss.com profile I created. I keep getting the standard "The status of your reservation does not allow viewing the reservation online (20504)" error message.

How tough is it for LX to handle these sorts of things, or am I doing this wrong? I can bring up the other flights on other carriers without a problem...

The LX website doesn't accept Amadeus booking codes (which LH use) as they're not hooked up to that system - try adding the booking via Ticket Number rather than via Reservation code.

I did that. It still didn't work.
