Hi everyone,

I am hoping I can get some information here. I have tried searching everywhere but have been unable to find any up to date information.

Has anyone flown TG 1st or biz to Madrid? Previous information is of a poor product with old seats, however on checking data.flight24 - it shows the planes used are also flying to MUC/LHR etc... Is this information correct? and is it safe to assume that the seats are of the current 1st and biz?

The same goes with BKK-ZRH on their 346.

I am looking at some redemption flights and trying to avoid LHR as I am wanting to travel around the Olympics time.

Any information is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You might have more luck asking this question on the TG page.

Flying in or out of BKK in F is a great experience. F in 744 and a346 (which are likely the aircraft you would get) is as good as F on any other carrier excepting the very latest products on a few airlines. You also benefit from goon onground service both before departure and after arrival where TG is one of the best. Even if you run into old 747 in F I don't think that would be a bad thing because IMO the old F seat is still great and very comfortable to sleep on. Only downside is lack of AVOD. I believe the MAD flight used to stop in Rome en route but have no idea if it still does.

Recent flights have all been operated by 'new F' model 747s...well expect one day when it was subbed to A345 which has no F!

No it doesn't stop in Rome.

I second this. You will be fine in F class even on the "old" 7442. A great expirience; the F seats are really soft and good for sleeping.

If you were in C it would be a different story, but in F you don't need to worry.

The best deal is to fly via CPH/ARN - they sell old F as C, so you will get their old F for the price of C - and if you are very, very lucky your aircraft may be replaced with the one with new F - then it would be an absolute steal - new F for C (redemption) price. I-class to/from CPH/ARN is hard to get but now (once EK/QR/GF entered the Danish market) doable. No buggy transfer in BKK and no F-class lounge access, though...

...and no F service on board.

But I agree, C class to CPH/ARN on TG is amazing in terms of seats... In terms of service, I would prefer SK any day...

But has anybody got this recently as a DC redcemption. I have tried for two years to get this with connections to GLA. Perhaps the problem has been married segments rather than CPH-BKK availability itself. ICC more often than not tell me theyu see availability but when they try to ticket it then it fails.

I'll be flying MAD-BKK in April on a DC redemption in F and the planes so far have been pretty consistently the "new-er" F. I think it's a equiv. to a spin of a roulette wheel whether you will strike-out with the old F - no real way of predicting.

I got it a few days ago... The interline (BD to TG) connection cannot be married and I always ask Pune folks to do it segment by segment and it works...

I can't resist after reading all these "glorious" posts.
The so-called "new" F seats are among the oldest F seats of reputable airlines. The "old" 7442 seats are so antique that no other airline dares fly them as anymore. Only the 99W leased 77Ws offer a competitive product when functioning.
But TG is the airline where it is easy to get a F award as they get so few rev pax (or at J- promotions). So one has to balance the good and the bad.

Brilliant. Thanks everyone. Just wanted to make sure that it's a comfortable ride to MAD.

I have done TG F a few times, mainly LHR-BKK and BKK-SYD so have done the 744(new config) and 346. All very comfortable and great service. Some may not prefer it, but I thought it was great, the suites on 77W leased from Jet airways CDG-BKK.

Thanks, I'll call ICC on off chance I can change my flight next month from ED-LHR-BKK to GLA-CPH-BKK but its probably a lost cause.

The newer F seats on TG are as good as or better that F on LH, LX, UA, QF, and AA in my own personal experience. As for the old F seat, TG sells it as J. I sleep most of time on my flights and still like that seat for sleeping as best of the lot I have tried. That said, it wou;ld be better-located in a suite with AVOD etc :) I expect TG F on their upcomingv a380 and other longhaul fleet renewal will be competitive with current best standards.

China Airlines still has them on their 747s (with one exception - the LAX-TPE-LAX flights). Same seat, different fabric, basically!

Theirs haven't even been reupholstered, unlike TG's!

You don't need to worry about the seat... just get glugging the Dom Perignon 2002!!

Just do it real quick. Last week after three hours into the 12 hour flight, the Dom and other first class champagne was gone, including what looked to be a single bottel of the Rose.

The better French white was also gone in those three hours, and the fuller bodied French red was never stocked.

That's piss poor, was it a day or night flight or does this happen on both?

It was TG 922, BKK-FRA on 16 Jan., scheduled to depart at 13:15, and departed about one hour late. It was mostly a day flight. Was scheduled to land in FRA about 19:00, and landed about 20:00.

After the first class champage and better first class wine ran out, the entertainment system failed for a good deal of the flight.

That's just bad luck! On SYD-BKK on Jan 14, there was 3 in F (including me) and I was the only one drinking... Polished off a whole bottle and the best part of the pink! Felt rather happy ridin' that buggy to the lounge! :D

Cheers,

Real bad luck on 2 0f 2 Thai flights. On the trip flew the LH A380, two Swiss first class flights, and two Thai flights, FCO-BKK and BKK-FRA. LH first was very good, and Swiss was great. Thai was bad on both flights, but the Thai crew from FCO-BKK was very good.

On a more full flight, you think Thai would have more first class champagne and wine.

Nah, just piss** pax, probably in both senses of the word.

Over the years I have been on quite a few flights which became unpleasant due to passengers who had too much to drink. Consequently, I'm happy when airlines limit availability of alcohol and also apply strict policies of pax boarding who have already been drinking too much.

Totally agree wouldn't want to be on a 12 hr flight with a few drunk annoying passengers, but I'd also wouldn't want to be 6hrs into a 12hr day time flight and think "I really fancy a glass of bubbly" only to find out they had run out. Sounds like TG's stock control needs to be looked at.

I cannot recall them ever running out of booze. Something regarding availability of Dom seems to be up though, there is a whole thread on the subject!

No problems with Dom for my numerous flights (all last year)
CDG-BKK-LHR
LHR-BKK-SYD-BKK-LHR
ZRH-BKK
FA's were very forthcoming with topping us up.

How much longer are the A340-600s going to stick around? Considering they are the only aircraft that uniformly have the same FC seat, it will be a shame to see them go.

My flight was BKK-FRA with 7 of 8 seats filled mostly with Germans who seemed to like to drink. The Dom, the one bottle of Rose first class champagne, and better wines were gone in the first three hours. Several of the Germans soon switched to hard liquor. Although they seemed a little intoxicated, and a little loud laughter, it was not annoying on this 12 hour flight. After 3 hours into a day flight, no good champagne or wine, soon followed by a broken entertainment system, it was reading newspapers and magazines from end to end for hours.

I tried to sleep, but the business class galley was right behind first, and with no entertainment system ro block the banging, sleep was not an option.

The week before I flew FCO-BKK, the FA offered to open another bottle of Dom, and I declined the offer. If I knew my return flight would have limited first class champagne and wine, I guess I should have had a little more Dom on the FCO-BKK flight, but opening a bottle for just a drink seemed such a great waste.

Maybe only the Germany flights run out of first class champagne and wine? If flying to Germany, probably best to fly LH since they can keep up with the German customers. Last March also flew CDG-BKK with no problem.

Just a few points. IIRC there is no galley behind F, it is just the area where they store all the trolleys. I guess they could make some noise getting them in and out but cannot say I ever noticed. The galley itself is behind C AFAIK. Problems with AVOD is not unusual on TG or any other airline in my experience, seems to happen more often than it should. Can recall a couple of times they had difficulty on my TG flights but not as bad as my last SQ flight to Bali where the aircraft door was broken resulting in a 3 hour delay on a flight that should have been less than that, the seat wouldn't work, the AVOD wouldn't work and the meals were almost cold, and they were more interested in handing out cartons (yes cartons) of orange juice than anything else. I'll take my chances on TG any day! Regarding the DOM, you were flying F and possibly a revenue ticket too, you paid for it so why not open it.

Sorry, but have you flown on TG?
On 747s, the area behind F class on the right side of the plane is the galley for F and lower deck J. Very noisy.
On 77W, the area behind F is the J galley. Noisy too.
On A346 the area behind F is simply the J cabin and there is no place where they store trolleys, just seats. This plane is rarely (if ever) used to FRA.

Yes, that is place I was referring to in my post. I thought they only stored the food and drink trolleys there but the prep was in galley by stairs behind J. Regardless, I never felt bothered by noise in either F or J but that said I'm usually asleep and.or wearing headset so anythings possible.

Yea, the toilet behind me overflowed. That is how they compensated me.

I did not ask, and they did not offer. Over the years the lead FA on the flight on various airlines took our names and told us we would get miles, but miles never posted and did not have the time to waste.

I don't think so. They were having a real good time, and that it what you should do in first class, enjoy youself, as long as you do not interfere with others. We even gave our phone number to the two next to me to show them around Miami the next time they are here.

I was in Munich on a Friday afternoon in April, they were all having a good time on that warm afternoon. Life is to be enjoyed, and if someone is doing it with a few drinks, good for them, as long as they are not bothering anyone.

I have a German first and last name, but US because my grandparents came to the US around 1900. I would not disparage my own heritage.
