I just made a booking on the Eurostar site.

I got quotes in GBP and USD (UK originating travel.) The USD denominated fare was a little over 5% cheaper than what I got by converting GBP on xe.com, so it was probably more than 5% cheaper because the exchange would make it even costlier to use a USD credit card for a GBP denominated fare.

And, if one pays in GBP there is a 4 GBP surcharge for credit card, and there is no surcharge when paying in USD.

Out of interest, how do you change the currency/country on the Eurostar website?

Most such booking websites have a 'select country/language' option somewhere - but on Eurostar, once I am in, say, the UK version, I can't see any way of switching it...

Clear cache and reload eurostar.com

Clear cache and reload eurostar.com

Thanks! It seems that opening a new Incognito window in Google Chrome also works*. However, it's unfortunate that Eurostar don't provide a more convenient way of changing sites (especially as it seems you can't book one-way France->UK travel on the UK site, nor vice versa - so you need to swap sites in order to book such travel).

It also seems that the US site only lists a limited number of stations in France (while the UK and French sites offer a wide number of stations in France, with connections by TGV).

Also, although the UK site will sell tickets from London to Switzerland (with connections on the TGV from Paris), I can't see any way of booking a one-way ticket from Switzerland to London. (However, such tickets can be booked on sbb.ch - and presumably also on www.voyages-sncf.com...)

* Presumably because Chrome handles cookies separately for Incognito windows. This method saves you having to manually clear all cookies.

The Eurostar site is very clunky, unfortunately - what else would one expect from a monopoly?

Roll on 2015 ....

I didn't assume you used Chrome, so I gave you the "all-browser" version, but you're right, an incognito window will work just fine. Presumably, private browsing works fine too.

Actually, I'm doing some data collection on ticket prices right now and the Eurostar website is one of the better ones IMO, at least in the purchase stage. The lack of options to change a language I think is intentional.
