I'll be flying CMH-HYD on QR from JFK. I'll either take DL or AA for the CMH-JFK leg. Will DL or AA be able to send my bags through to QR or will I have to claim my bags (I land mid-afternoon at JFK), sit around for hours for the QR ticket counter to open, and finally check my bags?
I fly a lot in the US. Not much international until now so any advice is welcome.

If it is on the same PNR then definitely. If not, the agent can sometimes book it all the the way through. Their was a similar thread on here last night and that was the general answer being given.

I beg to differ.
Go to http://www.gentatours.com/gentaint/pdf/ticket/226.pdf for a list of Qatar's interlining partners. Both Delta and American Airlines are on the list. Give them a call to confirm.

Very cool - thank you.
Any ideas what to do or where to go until the Qatar club opens (I'm flying J)? I'll have my backpack and carry-on, so taking a cab to the city won't work.

Good luck.
Sorry, I can't help with your other point, but QR check in desks generally open at least 3 hours before departure.

I flew AF-QR-TG to go from CDG to Krabi and it went very well
The way back was TG-QR-LH to go back to Luxembourg, no problem

That's the advantage of booking a full service airline for add on flights such as Bangkok-Krabi. It may have been a little cheaper with Air Asia, but the convenience of being checked through is a whole lot off ones mind.

That's exactly why I booked with TG and not Air Asia. + I chose Business class since I had 30kg of luggage and the extra cost with Air Asia would have been almost equal to TG C Class.
I even had 36kg on my way back and they didn't say a thing in Chiang Mai.
In BKK, the BFS agent told me I would have to pay for my extra 6kg until I reminded him that Burgundy members are allowed 10 more kg :td:
Good thing I knew my rights with my new status!
Otherwise, having luggage sent through is a blessing!

I've just booked a connectional flight with Bangkok Airways, which is a Qatar interlining partner. The headline fare, and thats exactly what you pay, was somewhat higher that that of Air Asia. But, after adding for 2 checked bags and the fee for paying by credit card, Air Asia was only about 50 Thai Baht ($1.50 approx) less. However, the convenience of being checked through is worth a whole lot more, especially as the QR flight from Doha is a notoriously bad timekeeper.
Just slightly off topic, Bangkok Airways give you an extra 10kg's baggage allowance just for joining its frequent flyer programme. So, if you are flying to or from Thailand and need a local connectional flight, check them out, even if you've never flown with them before, especially if taking advantage of your Privilege Club extra baggage allowance.
