Miles & More (Lufthansa, Austrian, Swiss, and other partners) - Frequent Traveller - Lounge access + guest

Morning,
I have a question.
I recently became a Frequent Traveller with Miles & More.
I am going to San Francisco via Zurich on Friday, travelling on LX038 with a friend.
Obviously, I will have lounge access in any Lufthansa Group lounge.
The big question is; would I be able to bring my friend or do you think the ladies at the counter could be persuaded to let him in with me?

Congratulations on your new status!
FTL status allows you to access business lounges- however unfortunately doesn't allow guests.
Some lounges (like VIE) do sell access- the business lounge at Vienna for example charges 35 EUR per person.
The lounges at FRA and MUC do not sell access.
ZRH is priority pass.

Congrats from me too.
If you happen to have a German Golden M&M Credit Card then sometimes it can give you access to the LH Business lounges + guest. It always works for me in LHR BMI lounge, whereas in MUC/FRA I tried it once and the dragon gave me the look of hell :D
But in general FTL + NO guest.
As mentioned above sometimes purchase is possible.

FRA does sell lounge access, and I have a receipt to prove it. The business lounge is 25euros, and you can only pay with a credit card. There is the possibility that the lounge in A is full and they may deny selling it. We used the Lounge in B as it was close to our gate (but we did have to go in and out of immigration - for EU citizens this is not a problem, if they ask just say there are better restaurants on the other side of immigration which is true as that area of B has nothing.)
MUC should also sell lounge access, it's part of a new 'enhancement' of M&M for FTL. I know for me it was worth spending the money, since we would have spent around the same amount or more for the two of us to have a beer or two and some food in the general area. Oh and when we did it in early Dec the LH staff had just been briefed on the process 2 weeks before and it took some time (10mins or so) for them to figure it out again. Enjoy.

There was a promotion period where the Lufthansa lounges were selling access- however my understanding is that the promotion has expired. Perhpas one of the LH experts can weigh in on this?

As far as LH lounges are concerned all you need is to check lufthansa.com (http://www.lufthansa.com/de/en/Lounge-News#ancAbT7). ;) However, I'm not sure if the same rule applies to ZRH lounges. The most convenient lounge for US departures is the Panorama Lounge (http://www.zurich-airport.com/desktopdefault.aspx/tabid-152/460_read-2521/) in Dock E.

I was not sure if lufthansa.com was up to date.
In reference to the Panorama Lounge- yes it is very convenient for access and will sell entrace for CHF 36.00. I don't think they let FTL in for free however.

LX Status Customers get free access, albeit it doesn't say if it's restricted to *G or if *S also works.

Or, you could just say that you want to visit the lounge.
One time I've went through immigration and the officer was still shaking his head "the guy before you waited in line to clear immigration just to visit the lounge...". I had to tell the officer "aehm... me too...". :D After an extremely long wait on the way out I've finally signed up for the automated gates -- that speeds things up.

Or treat your friend and invite him / her somewhere nice... ;)
(I am sure you know that if you or your friend travel in Business Class, you are also lounge-worthy ;))
you could just get a 2nd printout of your boarding pass and give it to your friend... i guess the lounge dragons wont recognize the name again ;-)

Eur 25-35 is a lot IMHO to pay for access to the LH / LX business lounges..

I would definitely not do that since all boarding passes will be scanned. Is a lounge visit really worth such a stupid fraud?

The BP will be scanned and you will be in trouble.
BTW this is one of the reasons why you need to show your card!

Take your companions with you into the lounge
As a Frequent Traveller or Senator you can now share the benefits of the Lufthansa lounges with your travelling companions*. Your companions have the option of purchasing entry to selected Lufthansa lounges.
If you are a Frequent Traveller your companions can choose between the Lufthansa Business Lounges in Germany and the USA and the Welcome Lounge at Frankfurt Airport. One-off entry costs €25 or US$35 for the Business Lounges and €50 or US$70 for the Welcome Lounge.
As a Senator you are already able to invite one companion, as well as your own children under 18, to join you in Lufthansa Senator Lounges free of charge. Additional companions can purchase entry to the Lufthansa Senator Lounges in Germany and the USA. One-off entry costs €40 or US$50. Of course Senators‘ companions can also purchase entry to the Lufthansa Business Lounges in Germany and the USA and the Welcome Lounge at Frankfurt.
Vouchers for lounge admission can be bought at the Lufthansa ticket counters at the relevant departure airports in Germany and the USA immediately before your visit to the lounge. Vouchers for the Welcome Lounge can be obtained on arrival in Frankfurt Airport at the Lufthansa ticket counter. To purchase a voucher you must have a boarding pass for a Lufthansa intercontinental flight.
To enter the lounges with their travelling companions, Frequent Travellers and Senators must show their Miles & More status card and both they and their companions must be in possession of boarding passes for a Lufthansa operated flight valid for that day and airport of departure.
* There is no limit on the number of companions allowed per lounge visit.

Not if you have 2 ppl having some food and a few drinks, I have easily spent over 25€ at FRA food services for 2 people, 4 beers are 20€. It was almost 10€ alone for 2 coffees and 2 muffins at Starbucks in Berlin. So for a few hours of having drinks, and snacks along with internet access, power at the chairs and relaxed environment is well worth it. I wouldn't do it for time under 2 hrs though.
Then again I choose not to do some miles runs for SEN status last year and use the money for a real vacation and paying for these sort of fees to lounge access. So far I think I'm saving money.
