Hawaiian Airlines and JetBlue will announce today a partnership for both travel and their frequent flyer programs. The deal comes on the heels of the recent announcement of new service by Hawaiian Airlines with the upcoming launch of non-stop service between New York’s JFK and Honolulu. While the Hawaiian service doesn’t start up until June, the deal will start sooner, with the carriers routing passengers via Los Angeles for one stop service on interline itineraries.

Full details are not yet known but the formal announcement is expected later today (http://boardingarea.com/blogs/thewanderingaramean/2012/01/jetblue-hawaiian-team-up-for-jfk-service/).

Hawaiian and JetBlue have reached a preliminary agreement to allow members of each carrier's frequent flyer program to earn and redeem loyalty points or miles for travel on either carrier. Under this agreement JetBlue's TrueBlue members will soon be able to accrue points on any Hawaiian-operated flight, while HawaiianMiles members will be able to earn miles on any JetBlue-operated flights. Similarly, frequent fliers will be able to redeem their points or miles for travel on either carrier's network, bringing new, much-requested destinations to each program's loyal members.

VERY nice, though still no real details.

Looks like HA 50 gets in at 06:55 AM and HA 51 departs JFK at 10:00 AM so looks like lots of connection combos are possible. The ability to earn TrueBlue points on HA and Hawaiian miles on jetBlue makes this really attractive.

According to a tweet from Dave Barger, looks like the HA A330s will pull up at either gates 12 or 14.

Excellent news. I just hope the earning and redemption rates are reasonable.

You can earn on AA as well.

You can earn on AA as well.

Only on a limited number of routes and this is the first partner with redemption options. And the first partner sharing the terminal.

Don't think TrueBlue could possibly give me enough points to get me on an AA plane for a long haul flight...or a short haul one for that matter. As mentioned above the redemption is the key and the Hawaiian deal represents to first true airline FF partner for B6.

What's the deal with all these so-called "partner airlines" anyway? I thought Jetblue signed codeshare deals with them, or at least interline agreements.

All but two of the partners are interline only. No codesharing, no FF reciprocity and no fare benefits (through flights are simply priced as OAL fare + B6 fare).

AA has some reciprocal earning but no reciprocal redemption and the agreement only applies on specific routes.

The HA agreement will apply to both earning and redemption and across all routes. Plus, pending government approval, HA will be putting their code on some B6 flights. The HA partnership is groundbreaking for JetBlue in many ways.

It is a start. Hopefully, B6 will sign more agreements like the one with HA.
As for now, the airline partner page is nothing more than cheap advertisement for the airlines mentioned.

Any word on when the FF benefits/reciprocity are going to take effect? I see that you can book through to Hawaii on the JetBlue website, but if you choose "Points" for booking and "HNL" as a destination, you receive a message telling you that this cannot be done.

Also, there is nothing about earning points on Hawaiian Airlines yet on the website.

My understanding is that earning reciprocity is going to come before redemption reciprocity but I don't know about when for either or if the plans on that have changed since I last heard about it.

I'm hoping that it happens before the JFK-HNL inaugural on the 5th. I'd like to park those points in TrueBlue rather than orphan them in HawaiianMiles.

In the worst case scenario you can get AA miles for the flight (starting June 5)

Details on the earning rates here (http://boardingarea.com/blogs/thewanderingaramean/2012/05/jetblue-hawaiian-announce-details-on-frequent-flyer-reciprocity/). Only 50% earning on most HA metal and 25% on the cheap fares, but distance based.

My big question is whether I take 4900ish AA points or 1250ish TB points for my flight on Tuesday.

I'm actually not sure that JetBlue includes that detail anywhere in the booking. :o

There is a link on an old email confirmation I have in my mailbox which suggests that a detailed receipt might be available and that might do it. But otherwise I have no idea where you'd get it, other than calling in.

I just went through a dummy booking process and the fare class doesn't appear to be displayed at any point.

NEW YORK and HONOLULU (May 30, 2012) –JetBlue Airways (NASDAQ: JBLU), New York’s Hometown Airline™, and Hawaiian Airlines (NASDAQ: HA), Hawaii’s flag carrier, today announced a deepening of their partnership with the signing of new agreements to offer new benefits and convenience to the customers of both airlines.

Members of both carriers’ frequent flyer programs can soon earn and redeem loyalty points or miles for travel on either airline. Travellers can also find convenient connections between points throughout the East Coast and points throughout Hawaii with the signing of a new codeshare agreement. Both agreements will be in effect on June 5, when Hawaiian launches the only nonstop service between New York City and Hawaii with daily widebody flights between JetBlue’s Terminal 5 at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York City and Honolulu International Airport (HNL).

“Starting next month, Hawaiian will bring Hawaii to New York, and this expansion of our partnership with JetBlue will make travel between the East Coast and Hawaii easier than ever,” said Peter Ingram, Hawaiian’s executive vice president and chief commercial officer.

Reciprocal Benefits for Frequent Flyers

Effective June 5, JetBlue’s TrueBlue members can accrue one point for every two miles flown on eligible Hawaiian-operated flights, while HawaiianMiles members will be able to earn miles on eligible JetBlue-operated flights on a mile-for-mile basis. To earn points or miles on the entire trip, customers must call JetBlue or Hawaiian Airlines reservations to enter their TrueBlue or HawaiianMiles number into their itinerary prior to travel. Frequent fliers can also redeem their points or miles for travel on either airline’s network by calling their program’s reservation desk.

“TrueBlue continues to provide more value and more flexibility for members, making it that much easier to redeem loyalty points for reward travel,” said Dave Canty, JetBlue’s director of loyalty marketing. “Through this new partnership with HawaiianMiles, customers can now earn their TrueBlue points on their much sought-after Hawaiian Airlines trip to the islands, or reward themselves by cashing in their points for free travel to the friendly archipelago’s sun, sand and surf.”

With TrueBlue, members enjoy the benefits of a program that has no blackout dates ― every seat on every JetBlue flight is available for redemption (a), allowing customers to redeem awards whenever they want to travel. To enroll in TrueBlue or to learn more about the program, visit www.jetblue.com/trueblue.

Vicki Nakata, Hawaiian’s managing director of partnerships and travel products, said, “HawaiianMiles members can now earn miles on all JetBlue flights, and every seat on every JetBlue-operated flight will be available for award travel. Our members now have more options for award travel and unparalleled access to the East Coast via JFK.” For more details visit www.hawaiianairlines.com/alohajetblue.

Codeshare Allows Hawaiian to Market East Coast Connections

Effective May 30, Hawaiian has placed its HA code on a host of connecting JetBlue flights, making it easy to find the most convenient connections between points throughout the East Coast and points throughout Hawaii in worldwide reservations systems. Codesharing provides one-stop check-in, seamless flight connections and boarding passes all the way through from origin to destination. Customers may book their codeshare connecting travel online at HawaiianAirlines.com, on third party travel sites or by calling Hawaiian Airlines or their preferred travel agent.

“We are pleased to see our partnership with Hawaiian continue to blossom and we look forward to sharing our home at JFK,” said Scott Resnick, JetBlue’s director of alliances and partnerships. “Hawaiian’s Aloha spirit pairs nicely with JetBlue’s award-winning customer service, providing customers an enjoyable travel experience from start to finish.”

In January, the airlines announced an interline partnership enabling customers to enjoy the convenience of a single combined ticket for connecting Hawaiian and JetBlue-operated flights, plus other benefits including one-stop check-in and baggage transfer between the carriers’ networks via New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), where Hawaiian offers multiple daily departures to Hawaii.

JetBlue customers in cities including Boston, Buffalo, Charlotte, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, and Raleigh/Durham can make seamless connections to Honolulu or onwards on Hawaiian to Kauai, Maui, or Hawaii Island.

Travellers on JetBlue enjoy all-leather seating, the most legroom in coach of any U.S. airline (based on average fleet-wide seat pitch), free in-flight entertainment at every seatback, and unlimited free snacks and drinks.

Hawaiian’s customers enjoy the airline’s signature “Hawaii Flies With Us” inflight hospitality showcasing Hawaii’s culture, natural beauty, and the Aloha Spirit of its people. They also enjoy complimentary hot meals in all cabins, Hawaiian being the only carrier serving Hawaii that still offers this amenity.

Go to manage manage flights>>>enter last name and confirmation number>>>
Click on View Itinerary/Receipts>>>Click on the receipt number (in blue).

On the Vitually There ETicket Receipt look at the Other Notes section in the middle right of the page. It looks something like this:

ClassEconomy
Seat NumberCheck-in Required
Baggage Allowance1PC
Booking StatusConfirmed
Fare BasisSH07QE2

The booking class is the first letter of the fare basis--in this example S.

In advance of booking, you could look at ITA software, pull up the same flight at the same price and view details and you can see the fare basis code there.

Go to matrix.itasoftware.com>> enter your flight and date details>>view results and pick the flight you want>>>view details

You will see:

How to buy this ticket
Tickets cannot be purchased directly from ITA Software.
Provide this information to a travel agent to help them match the fares found.
Make sure to provide the exact booking and fare codes shown.
Fare 1: Carrier B6 PL00QE2M NYC to SJU (rules)
Passenger type ADT, one-way fare, booking code P
Covers JFK-SJU (Economy)
$73.00
US September 11th Security Fee (AY) $2.50
US Passenger Facility Charge (XF) $4.50
US International Departure Tax (US) $16.70

Subtotal per passenger $96.70
Number of passengers x1

Total airfare & taxes $96.70

In this example the fare basis code is shown in the line that starts Carrier 1 B6. The code after that starting with a P is the fare basis. P is the booking code.

I guess the question is: Has anyone called?

I did. The representitve I spoke with didn't know how many TB points it would take to get from JFK to HNL. So she put me on hold for about 5 minutes and told me she pulled a few random flights and said the cost would be about 50 points per $ spent. So a $1000 fare would cost 50,000 points.

I'll probably call back in a week to see if I can get a more definitive answer.

That would be a really good deal since a 450$ fare on B6 would cost 47000 points or so (I am looking at JFK-TPA over XMAS break).

Depending on the fare you either get 50% or 100% of the ~5000 flown miles. Mine actually credited seamlessly from the inaugural flight.
