Does anybody have any idea why?

There was supposed to be one built in Cebu, at Mactan Island near the airport, with several towers of residential or time-share units in the complex, but it was delayed by the 1997 Asian economic problems.

I have no idea how or if that project is coming along.

Most of the good hotels in Manila are too far from the airport given current traffic congestion. There is a nice shiny hotel next to the old Copacabana, however.

i emailed hilton 2 months ago with regards to this matter, for people who are hgvc members/and or hilton club members here in Manila.

it sucks though that they dont reply to your queries and that local residents here cannot use hilton to earn more points on hilton honors..as in our case. I would prefer staying in a hilton hotel here just to earn the points but there is none, it sucks@

The Hilton Cebu is scheduled to open in September 2004.

Please excuse my ignorance. Is Cebu near Manila? If not, is there a major airport near?

Not really. Yes.

Cebu is not near Manila. It's about 1hr by air south of Manila. The airport in Cebu is nice and has nonstop flights from Singapore, Hong Kong, and Seoul.

Thanks for the info. I guess a trip to the Cebu is in order once the hotel opens.

There seems to be a resurgence of interest in this topic.

Perhaps a helpful moderator could merge the new thread into this one?

Hilton Cebu is open and taking reservations. The spa, kids' playroom and one restaurant not yet open though.
Cheers,

Since MNL is still the primary aviation gateway to the Philippines, and many flights arrive too late for onward domestic connections, it would be nice if Manila would get a Hilton family hotel of its own some day.

In the mean time, let us keep each other posted with updates on the Cebu Hilton as we visit. :)

I received my weekly marketing e-mail from Hilton the other day which contained the following description of the Hilton Cebu Resort.

Superbly located at the tip of the most beautiful coal island of Mactan, Hilton Cebu Resort and Spa basks in year round sunshine and offers its pampered guests the ultimate in tropical beachfront indulgence.

I think they meant to say "coral" island. Kind of cracked me up.

It's a Category 2 property. There aren't any pictures of the resort on the property's website. Everything sounds nice about it except the coal. ;)

It would be nice to get a property in Manila.
