South America - How to kill time at Panama airport on a saturday afternoon?

I'll be at Tocumen airport from 2:30pm (arriving from Cartagena Colombia) to 6:30pm (departing to Lima Peru)

I already checked that Panama Canal is far from Tocumen plus there are some works at highway so it's risky to go there in terms of time, besides it would be too rush. Is there any place near the airport that is worth it? Or any suggestions about what to do during those hours?

Thanks

Bring a good book. That airport is one big duty-free shopping mall, though they've finally opened up some more foot outlets on the top level. The airport is pretty far from anything of interest except maybe the ruins from the original settlement sacked by pirates. The canal is on the other side of the city.

I was going to suggest an atlas but on looking saw that Tocumen is on the other side of the Isthmus of Panama and some definitions do indeed say South America commences there and your choice of forum was appropriate. Even when trying to be a smarta**e I can learn something ;)

How about killing a few hours in the Copa Club (renamed Continental Presidental Club) at PTY?

Yes, that's what I finally did, and it was a disappointment. Buenos Aires, Santiago and Lima VIP rooms are far better (no doubt Sumaq Vip Room at Lima was Priority Pass Lounge of the Year 2010). Wifi was very slow when the lounge was half full, and they only offer cookies.

I think they still call it Copa Club, or at least several signs still say so.

I think i was a bit unclear...it was renamed from Continental Presidential to Copa Club.

Was it at least quiet? Btw, are the seats/couches comfortable?

AA Admirals Club at PTY isn't too bad - better snacks than US Admirals Club locations and free self-serve booze. Seats are kind of worn but still comfortable; the wi-fi works well.

With 4 hours between flights you just might have time to grab a cab over to the ruins of Panama Viejo and walk around the site for an hour and a half or so (getting, of course, drenched in sweat in the process given Panama's muggy climate) before heading back to Tocumen. Panama Viejo ruins are only about 15 minutes from the airport (they are east of downtown as opposed to the canal which is west).

Alternatively maybe cab it to Hipodromo Presidente Remon (also east of town between city and airport) and bet a few trifectas!

But how did PTY wind up in South America???

Oh yes, very comfortable. Quiet enough, too. My main dissapointing were toward the snacks, considering I had no lunch ;). And after knowing few other lounges, you start to compare.

I love to upload my travel pictures on my facebook albums so I decided to spend time doing so, but wifi was very slow the last 2 hours, when the room began to fill

My mistake, I had in mind this was my trip to Colombia and Tocumen airport was the mandatory stop and didn't realize it shouldn't be here until it was posted. The moderator may move this thread to Central Amerca if he consider it.

Copa Club was the nearest room I found.
I would keep in mind the Panama Viejo tip for a next opportunity.
