I fly very, very rarely with checked luggage so I don't know the rules that well but now I'm heading to Asia for a longer trip and need quite a lot of luggage.
I can see that there's this new a limit of 23kg, does this apply for long haul J ticket + AY/OW Sapphire status so if my luggage >23kg I need to pay extra with cash/points?
I'm flying today so any info would be appreciated.
thanks,

thanks,
- 23 kg is for Y, in C it's 32 kg
- AFAIK with AY status you can "convert" your second piece allowance into one 32 kg luggage
- check out the luggage allowance calculator on the AY site!

Thanks, I will check! If it's 32kg for J it's interesting how this "before you travel" email from AY says 23kg..confusing stuff..
Edit: the calculator says: "3x23kg for J class+sapphire" so it seems I need to take 2 bags instead of one big Rimowa...it's a funny thing..AY gave me this big Rimowa multiwheel thing as Plat gift just 2 years ago and now I cannot even use it when flying AY in J..or I can use it but pack 2/3 full..this is insane stuff.. ;)

Check this out
http://www.finnair.fi/finnaircom/wps/portal/finnair/baggagecalculator/fi_FI
Then click "Matkatavaralaskuri" and change 23 to 32 kg. Out comes 0€ lisämaksu (extra charge)
I print this out if I go 23-32 kg. Confusing communication, though.

Ahh..thanks again, Wilcoroger, yes really confusing :)
But I think I got it now..in J with AY status 32kg+23kg or 3x23kg and w/o status 32kg or 2x23kg

I don't think it is stated anywhere on the website, but for all classes that allow 2PC (2x23kg), you can instead choose to have 1x32kg.
So it is not just in J, it is also in Y and B.
As AY+ status increases all limits by 1PC, AY+status holders have 2PC even in low econ, and can convert to 1x32kg in all classes.
I wouldn't say confusing but extremely well hidden...

I meant as a rule it is not so confusing.
Was preparing for my first ever FinnAir flight tonight, thinking I had to put some heavy things into my carryon to keep my one checked bag under 23kg.
Then I found this thread.
Went back online and sure enough, the only place/time you can find that 2 pcs x 23kg (my Y allowance as OW Sapphire) can convert to 1 x 32kg is in the baggage fee calculator. No mention anywhere else on the website that I can find.
1 x 24 + 1 x 10 kg results in an excess baggage fee, but 1 x 24kg results in zero excess baggage fees.
Looking forward to my inaugural AY flight --- snagged exit row 41J on 340 LQA HKG to HEL.

Print out Your boarding pass and check "Checked baggage allowance"
OH-LQA is out of service (@SIN) and it looks like A340 for 7th May HKG-HEL is OH-LQF.

Yes it is. Last time I had this aircraft 10 movie channels out of 16 was not functioning.

I'm not sure if I looked at the online seating at check-in wrong or what, but OH-LQF is what I got. What I thought was a nice exit row was an exit row, but with a terrible bulkhead wall in front! No extra leg room, and the guy behind me had the longest legs of all passengers on the flight. No way to recline my seat.
I want to online check-in for my return on Saturday morning, and finnair.com shows Airbus 319, but the online seating chart looks like nothing on seatguru.com. I have seat 10D, which shows as Exit Row online, but seatguru shows only row 9 is exit row.
Anyway, flights HKG-HEL-LHR were not bad, no hassle about 25kg x 1 pc at check in, only problem was the stupid wall in a window side exit seat, and Mr. Daddy Long Legs behind me.

All channels were functioning for me, but the tiny screen and scratched surface, plus very low definition screen made me wonder "why???" do they even have it.
