So many headlines with "WestJet" and "mulls" lately...

WestJet chief financial officer Vito Culmone said Thursday that the carrier is examining the merits of placing new seats with more legroom in the first several rows – a move that would be geared toward providing more comfort to business travellers on long-haul flights within North America.

One of the commentators below the article state that he's miffed that he didn't get a full can of pop on his flight and that a big to-do was made about it. In recent weeks, Transport Canada has imposed strict fine-able restrictions on Westjet regarding weight. One of the ways that the weight is being restricted is the amount of pop carried on board. If the flight goes from Air Supply base to Air Supply base (ex: YYC to YVR) then there's no problem in asking for and getting the can, but if the flight goes, for example, from YYC to CUN to YYZ, there won't be any stock uploaded in CUN so high demand items might be unavailable on the CUN to YYZ trip if cans are distributed on the first flight. How would you feel on your return trip from a place like CUN when you couldn't even get a glass of your preferred drink because someone made a to-do about a can of pop on the way down there?

When US Airways acquired Piedmont, they sent out a press release that they would continue the PI policy of serving a full can of pop without being asked. I continue to say to an FA on any carrier -- "full can of Coke...like on US Airways!" -- and I am never turned down. Full cans save on ice and save on cups...give everybody a can, service can be done in 5min. What takes time is running to the galley all the time for coffee, tea, and the accompanying amenities. Nothing like drinking a hot beverage in an overheated cabin.
