KLM Flying Dutchman - KLM/DELTA really stressing me out..what to do?

Hello guys..here is the deal..i booked a flight from london heathrow-new york return. I flew in new york on 5th november and was supposed to fly back on the 28th of jan. I am now postponing my trip for april because from what i know i had a one year open ticket. Follwing are my ticket conditions as on email before i ask you to clear my confusion :


Ticket conditions
Departure flight : London - New York
• Changes are allowed at a fee of GBP 150.00 per change/per person
• If you change your ticket, the price of the ticket may change due to tax recalculation and fare availability.
• Changes are not allowed in the event of a no-show.
• Cancellation fee GBP 300.00 per person
• A ticket is non-refundable in the event of a no-show.
• For cancellations made after departure, the amount of the refund given will be the difference between the total fare paid and the fare for any flights actually taken.
• You will be travelling in Z class with fare basis ZPRGB.
• Flying Blue members earn 4322 Miles, upgrade with Miles is not possible
Return flight : New York - London

I am in new york at the moment and i have spoken to both KLM and delta offices and they say it is a 200 pounds for change penalty and no cancellation can be done because its non refundable. But my ticket clearly states is 300 pound for cancellation and 150 for change.

and they are like my ticket is valid for a year but my fare expires on 5 th FEB which is a 3month period so i have to pay around a 1000 dollars more if i plan to travel on after 5th feb. Why wasn't i told about this 3 month fare expiring on the KLM website when i was booking my ticket?

I mean what should i do, this is driving me nuts! Btw i flew delta business class on a KLM flight.

ZPRGB seems to have a 3 mths maximum stay rule, and change fee of 200 GBP and no refund on cancellation. That's what I got when I looked up the fare with your original dates. And this is what they probably saw on their screen when you called them.

I wonder where you got your fare conditions from. Could it be a computer glitch? If yes, going to a KL ticket office with a print-out of your email might be the best solution. They should honour the rules they sent you.

I got this fare condition in my email with the ticket that i got ! Ive tried making them understand about this but they just don't take my word on the phone over it. Ill have to go the office now but ill be traveling to san diego tomm and i really don't know when will i get time for this, cause i though it can be done on the phone.

What were you expecting? Why should they take your word on the phone if their computer tells them something different? A call center person is not allowed to override the fare conditions, in particular not without proof.

The complaint center can take weeks. If you need a fast solution you should go to a ticket office. (Or try facebook first.)

Where did you book your ticket - on the KLM site or elsewhere. I have had tickets booked on Orbitz.com where I had similar mails, but had more stringent fare rules. When I wanted to change one of those tickets, Orbitz pointed me to a small line and their email 'other fare conditions may apply' and that was the waiver they had to stick to the more stringent rules. Since then I always check fare rules myself...fwiw

On the phone they say your ticket is not cancellable.

You say that the ticket conditions state it is cancellable for a charge for GBP300.

However, the rules you've reproduced also state:

• For cancellations made after departure, the amount of the refund given will be the difference between the total fare paid and the fare for any flights actually taken.


Because you're cancelling after departure, this means the rules require that any refund be based on the fare for the flights actually taken. A one-way business class fare from LON to NYC - which is going to be more than the price you paid for a return (it's usually the case, anyway, that one-ways are more expensive than returns) so this would at least explain why no refund would be due to you if you now cancel the ticket (and, indeed, some people maintain that the airline and/or travel agent could indeed come after you for the money you now owe them!!!)

You say you flew "delta business class on a KLM flight", but looking up the farecode, it must have been a KLM-issued ticket, as I can't find a Delta farecode of ZPRGB.

I faxed them my ticket and i got a confirmation but they say they haven't received the fax. the pathetic customer service is really pissing me off.

For the experts, according to my ticket condition if i cancel me ticket they charge 300...i paid a total of 1700 return..how much am i gonna get back?

If you cancel the return flight you might even have to pay something on top because one-ways on 5 nov were way more expensive than the super-extremely cheap promotional return ticket you bought.
But if you were really given the wrong fare conditions, you should be able to change the flight to a date when you'd like to fly back.

Ok i contacted them through FB, at least the response is faster. Lets see how it goes. I attached my ticket on the private message to them, at least they now admit that there is a difference in the ticket condition they have and the one given to me.

Ok regarding the cancellation this is what guys on FB said :

If you were to cancel your ticket now, you would have a "one-way" ticket.
These tickets tend to be much more expensive then a round trip ticket. In this case we don't ask you to pay the fare difference for a one way, but we can't provide you with a refund either.

he is now doing something about the changing the ticket.
