Brazil - TAM / Pluna plane change in GIG -- Will I make my flight?

I booked a flight through Orbitz, flying from New York to Buenos Aires. I have a TAM flight JFK to GIG, 2h 36m between flights, then Pluna flight TAM to MVD, then 1h 25m between flights on Pluna MVD to AEP.

I'm worried about making the connections. From what I've read, 2.5 hours at GIG sounds like a tight squeeze, especially when I'm switching carriers. I read somewhere that TAM and Pluna have a code share. Does this mean they'll be responsible for putting me on a new flight if I miss the connection? And the same for if I miss the Pluna flight MVD to AEP?

Actually, 2h30 is more than fine. It's a international-to-international connection within the same terminal.
You will not need to go through immigration, nor through customs. You just head to the gate, which will be close. You might just have to go through security, which is a breeze.

If your TAM flight arrives late, Pluna will probably rebook you in the following flight.
I don't think you should worry.

jgold388, welcome to FlyerTalk!
As your question focuses on connections in Rio (GIG), I'll move this to the Travel->Brazil forum for more discussion. Ocn Vw 1K, Moderator, TravelBuzz.

Agree with the above that 2 1/2 hours is ample time at GIG to make your connection. By international standards, the airport isn't that big (there are 2 average sized terminals) or that busy. I'm not sure though that the connecting flight to Newberry will be out of the International Terminal. I flew out of GIG on CO in one terminal and my girlfriend flew out on UA out of the other. If you have to transfer between terminals, there's no walkways, people movers, or other automated transport: You have to walk down these long, convoluted hallways.

Pluna and TAM are on the same terminal.

Call the airlines directly. It sounds like your bags will be transferred but you need to confirm that. Years ago, when I flew the late Transbrasil Airlines from B.A. to Washington, I had to reclaim my bags at GRU. Hopefully you won't.

You mean more than a decade ago, before 1998 when TR discontinued Washington.
