Virgin Australia Velocity - VA gold, refused early check in
Flying EY and their check in desks haven't opened as I am very early. That said, never been a problem in the US with UA 1k, they would always take a check in at the red carpet.
Tried the VA gold counter and no luck... Despite saying check in for USA and UAE they said they weren't doing check ins for the EY flight today and I'd have to wait for EY to open.
Is this usual? Is there no facility for an early check in?

Not that i'm aware of. If it's not open it's not open. As i understand it VA do not do check in for EY operated flights.
Which airport are you currently at?
The previous poster is correct...usually the counters are open around 3 hours before...if you are way beyond it, you'll just have to wait.

If they are taking VA checkins for the UAE there can only be one airport - SYD.
Early checkin is still fairly rare, even QF only offer it at certain airports.

Most airlines in the US open their flight check-ins at T-6.

Can confirm Qantas won't let you check in early at HKG despite other QF flights open for checkin. Was there incredibly early due to a 14 hr layover (and bags could not be checked through to final destination).
A 30-min each way trip on the train to the rail checkin had that sorted though and through to the CX first lounge an hour later. :D
Unfortunately SYD does not have off-airport checkin facilities.
