I just burned my first comp upgrade, flex->bus on the NTL-MEL 737.

From the time I dailled the velocity number, to the time I put the phone down was less than 2 minutes.

Seamless, friendly, efficient and altogether awesome. The Irishman really needs to take note.

I think I read something yesterday that VA are offering op-ups through to Feb to selected platinum members to celebrate the introduction of business class. No op-up for me on last night's flight though. :(

Was a bit bemused about how many times they could mention "business class" on a BNE-SYD flight - I think I counted 5 times but will pay more attention next flight. It was definitely noticeable by the end.

Oh - and they definitely enforced the front loo only for business class rule.

How does this work? Will you be guaranteed upgrade as long as you book a Flexi fare even if there is only 1 Business seat left? It seems to be the best route to use this is SYD-PER. Any restriction on this route?

The Platinum upgrades are available if a seat is available, its spelt out very clearly in the terms and conditions, there has been reports in the past of agents denying the upgrade unless there is award inventory, this is wrong.

I was told today that complimentary upgrades for platinums are not necessarily available if a business class seat is available by two separate agents.

They have 8 seats in the business class cabin, apparantly 4 seats are set aside for velocity points upgrades/ redemptions, and up to an additional 2 more seats are set aside for complimentary upgrades for platinums, but once 6 out of 8 seats are sold, complimentary upgrades can not be used, the last 2 seats must be purchased for cash.

I also used mu first upgrade last week Syd-Mel dinner flight. Only 3 in J class. Seamless upgrade on the phone, itinerary emailed and received before call ended.

The service and food was great. The seats, whilst fine for Syd - Mel you would not want to do on any trans-Tasman or to/from Perth. The recline is not great and there is no leg rest/leg support - which means row 1 is probably best so you can pop your feet up on the bulkhead - this seems a bit of an oversight and would make sleeping pretty difficult

Agreed re recline and leg rest but the seat is the eqv of domestic F in the USA and I have survived many a transcon flight on UA and AA in pretty much exactly the same seat. Impossible to get any rest AU transcon as the flight is just too short anyway. Tried it once on QF with a skybed and ended up with 1.5 hrs of sleep which is no where near enough.

Re Platinum upgrades, is this thread discussing the 4 upgrades one gets a year for being platinum or some other unpublished benefit?

The title refers to the 4 WP upgrades.

You need to book a 'flexi' fare to qualify.

I shall soon book a flight SYD-BNE for three PAX on one PNR. Is It possible to upgrade both other PAX too using my Complimentary Fare Upgrades?

I still have three and would thefore use them all and buy a FELX fare instead of the cheapets one.

Thanks

If travelling with a DJ WP, then maybe.
13.17 Platinum Members may choose to redeem a Complimentary Fare Upgrades for a guest who is travelling with them.

13.18 Complimentary Fare Upgrades are subject to the availability of seats assigned for upgrades by Virgin Australia. Some flights may have no upgrades available. So does "a Guest" imply one or several?

Also, there may not be the availability (Q class?) to upgrade more than two PAX on the one flight.

I see... So Q Class needs to be availble... Not only any Business Class seat. Any chance to check Q Class before booking the flight?

It doesn't always show with Expert Flyer.

Sydney lounge agent told me the move is to allow same day allocation by Lounge staff and presumably the gate if loads are light.

I took that to mean any Plat on any fare class, if they ask, if they still have UGs in account, and if cabin is otherwise light booked will get them.

It is how US airlines have worked for decades, indeed for most US carriers elites get auto-bumped.

From the time I dailled the velocity number, to the time I put the phone down was less than 2 minutes.

I was stuck on the phone to virgin australia/velocity today for 1hr 30mins to book a flight return from syd - bris and upgrade using points... good to see that virgin is looking after their platinum members, but what about the rest of us? I have Qantas FF Gold, but Virgin don't status match so have to start all over again as the business is now using Virgin.

Um Virgin ran a status match last year times with QF's industrial action. That is how many of us first gained status.
