Fairmont President's Club - got a good $57 Hotwire deal at Fairmont... what kind of room to expect?

I just booked a room for 3 nights at the Fairmont in.... well, probably shouldn't
say the name... but it's in the US. :) I saw the $57 rate for a 4.5-star
property and couldn't resist. After I paid for it, Hotwire revealed that it was
the Fairmont.. I looked it up on their website and the cheapest rate for
the same 3 nights is $219.

Do you guys think that the $57 rate that I got was a pricing mistake, either
by Hotwire or Fairmont? Or did they just have to get rid of the empty rooms?

In any case, I wonder how I will be treated when I check in. No doubt the
check-in clerk will see that I had a Hotwire reservation... so will I be given
the worst room in the hotel. (but considering that it's the Fairmont, I assume
the "worst" room is still pretty nice? especially since I only paid $57/night?)

Thank you for all replies! :)

Well to answer your question at the worst case you will get a "Moderate" room which is fine but the location won't be. It may have a view of the parking lot or be close to the HVAC systems.

I wouldn't sweat it since for $57 I believe you will still experience excellent value. Since the hotel is on Hotwire it's def low occupancy so you may even end up with a normal room also. Let us know what hotel it is, or at least PM me or post in the hotels thread.

Agree with kokinos, you may end up in a moderate room (although many hotels don't even have that room category), so I'd expect a standard Fairmont room, possibly with no/limited view on a lower floor. Service should be good regardless of rate paid, it considering a motel 6 is only slightly cheaper, you''ll definitely get excellent value.

$59 per night is extremely low and is roughly as much as the lowest travel industry rates, if occupancy is very low, it's not impossible Fairmont released a few rooms at this rate to Hotwire/Priceline. Nevertheless, consider yourself lucky!

Would also be interested to know which Fairmont this is.;)

It's the Fairmont Battery Wharf in Boston From all the uploaded photos
that I saw on TripAdvisor, it seem like all the rooms are really fancy. Like I
said, I guess I can't really complain about getting it for $57.

Edit: wow... I just found out the hotel lists valet parking as the only parking option.
It is $42 per night. :( I'll just have to find street parking? :D

It is not unusual for hotels to dump inventory on Priceline at a very low prices. Usually it indicates very low occupation rate.

Some hotels are known to have "Priceline" rooms that are the least desirable. Knowing that you got such a low rate even the "Priceline" room must be a steal.

Wow, thatīs impressive. The Boston Battery Wharf rarely has particularly low rates (e.g. Great Rates Great Dates, advanced purchase etc.)

The hotel was just opened a few years ago and all rooms are very nice. When I stayed there many rooms didnīt seem to have a good view, but the location is pretty good and the hotel is very close to the airport (taxi cost something like $15)

Along the same lines - if I book a room at a third party site like Kayak (because the rate is ~60% that which is quoted on Fairmont.com) can I still apply room or suite upgrade certificates?

Third party bookings (by this I mean expedia, obitz, kayak etc., not bookings made by "real" travel agents) are a bit of a grey area.
Iīve heard of both people applying certs successfully and people being refused, it probably depends on the rate (e.g. BAR booked through Expedia should work, special flight+hotel advance purchase deal not necessarily)

What I generally recommend is to contact the hotel directly to see whether theyīre willing to match the same rate you found with the same conditions (flexible / advance purchase), I know of various people (incl. FTers) whoīve been successful doing this and itīs much easier dealing with a res. made directly with a hotel.

I have booked on Expedia.ca, and was able to call them and upgrade Fairmont room to Jr Suite.
