China - Aeroflot for Beijing
Hello and glad to meet you!:)
I need some help,
I'm just planning a trip to Beijing. I found cheap Aeroflot tickets (about 550 euros from moscow).
I just want to ask you if is Aeroflot reliable? because, i've read about some accidents happened in the past.
The other choice is Lufthansa from Munich, but it costs 170 euros more.Do you think it's a risk?
Thank you and sorry for my English....

Aeroflot ist voll ok. Versuche aber eine Verbindung mit einem Airbus zu buchen, die sind auf dem aktuellen Stand, die Boeing sind schon etwas älter und die Sitze dort reichlich durchgesessen.

My colleagues fly SU between PEK and MXP ~6 times a year, and love the schedules, connecting in Moscow (apparently, there is a TGIF in the airport), and the airplanes. Bearing in mind that they aren't 10% as obsessed with these matters as us, they are humans and would tell me if it sucked. The one hiccup they encountered last year was a failure to pay a change fee in advance in Milan (communication breakdown + oversold flight), in which they ended up having to buy new walk-up tickets on EK for a hefty sum in order to return to China.

I had 3 returnflights from Germany to China with Aeroflot. Airbus is new and with IFE, Boeing is just old. Service is better than with Lufthansa.

If price is a huge factor for you, I don't see why you should not take Aeroflot.
If you are really afraid, spend more on LH. ;)

??? Where is the difference to other airports? At least you have free wifi in SVO.

hmmm... not sure what your usual routes are, but I might think that MUC / ZRH / LND (T5) / DXB / IST / AMS are way better places for changing planes.
(deleted rant about several experiences in SVO)
back to OP's question - if you're price sensitive - GO FOR IT. That's how I flew to China for the first time. New planes, pretty good service and an impressive kosher meal in economy.
Only SVO and cash transaction was a downside.
safe travels and enjoy 中国!

Thanks for answers guys.
I might go with Aeroflot then...
Just an other quention, have you ever traveled with Sas(scandinavian airways)?
It's 100 euros more, but i want to know if it's a reliable and good company.

yes, and some accidents have happend in even more recent past on dozens of different airlines. This is not the Aeroflot of 1965 or even 1994.
Did you happen when the last accident was?
I would not pay 100 euros extra for SAS, unless mileage earning depended on it.

Depending on your details, check whether you need a transit visa for Russia as well as a visa for China. Remember that if bad IROPs happen and you do not have a visa, you could be stuck in SVO airside.

Intra-Russian flights had a terrible reputation. You should be fine with intercontinental ones.
Remember that if bad IROPs happen and you do not have a visa, you could be stuck in SVO airside.
That would be a freaking disaster - good point!

This can be a problem, and it's actually not that rare an occurrence. As even Russian transit visas are expensive and a hassle to get, most people transiting SVO don't bother, and just take their chances that they won't be unlucky enough to have IRROPS and get trapped airside for a day. Maybe if transiting with no visa, at your origin, stash some nonperishable eatables and a blow-up pillow!
On international flights, I wouldn't worry about Aeroflot any more than other major mainline carriers.
And mtaua, Welcome to FlyerTalk and the China Forum!

Are you Russian? If so, I'd think you would know better?
Aeroflot has had problems, but in general should be ok. They are in the Skyteam anyway.
Then again there was that one time when the pilots showed up drunk, the pax complained, and then Aeroflot later said the pax made it all up...

Aeroflot is much better than SAS, but are you sure you can't do better than 550 EUR. A week-long search in March gives me about 10 airlines under 550 EUR including SU with a 319EUR non-stop fare. Do a search on kayak and use airport code MOW to get all of the Moscow airports in the search.
I've flown SU from HKG and PVG and found the flights to be decent enough. The new airbus was really good actually. I transited SVO and it was fine, at least the new terminal. They give you smoked fish in Y with every meal which I enjoy. Service is better than anything in the USA.

I've flown SU numerous times between Moscow and Shanghai and haven't had a bad experience yet. Their food is better than LH and CA in my opinion and IFE is pretty good on the newer planes.
SVO is a horrible airport but you can always wander between the old and new terminals if you want to spend time in a more pleasant terminal than the mainland China flights go from.
