I would really appreciate any info on this hotel from someone that has stayed there. Thinking of using an award stay (in Aug)for my niece, how does this hotel compare to other hiltons in Europe? Any restaurants in area you can recommend? Is it easy to use trains in Frankfurt, or bus? What attractions are worth seeing in city? Did you take day trips outside city? Did you get free breakfast on an award? Thanks for any info you can give! Award is not available last 2 nights, is 145euro a good rate? Thanks

Never been there but EUR 145 for a Scandic is outrageous. I don't care much for the chain's offerings in SE and DK.
Check www.hrs.de (http://www.hrs.de) for relative pricing. I found a room at the Holiday Inn for EUR 25 on a weekend.
See my remarks from a stay in the scandic here (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum57/HTML/004734.html).
I wouldn't recommend it (only if you really want to stay there to earn points and avoid higher rates at the Hilton). The price is too high for the location. The Scandic is located off the beaten track.
The standard rate for the Scandic is 110EUR. Maybe there's a fair at that time you searched. During a fair, 145EUR may be a good rate.
Frankfurt doesn't offer much to sea. An interesting area is Sachsenhausen with lots of restaurants and a lot of people in the evening (e.g. Apfelwein Wagner -> see Dining Forum, section Germany). Much more interesting is Wiesbaden (in the West of Frankfurt) and much better would be a day trip by train to Heidelberg.

I agree with LH738, if the hotel is near Kaiserlai Kreisel, it's not in a good, central location.
O.K., Frankfurt is not London or Paris, but there is something to see: Roemer, Cathedral (some of German kings crowning place), Paulskirche, Alte Oper, Fressgasse and the Museums-Ufer with plenty of museums.
....Schaumainkai, the quay on the southern bank of the River Main between Friedensbrücke and Dreikönigskirche, is also known as Museumsufer ('museum bank'). Seven important museums are clustered here, most of them housed in magnificent 19th century mansions. The Liebieghaus, Städel Art Institute, Communications Museum, National Museum of Architecture, National Film Museum, Museum of Popular Culture and the Museum of Applied Arts are all dotted around the wonderful landscape gardens which were originally laid out in the 19th century. In September the quay hosts the three-day Museumsufer Festival, one of Frankfurt's most popular open-air attractions....

I tried a Google search but came up empty even though I think I've seen threads discussing this hotel. Anyway, has anyone stayed here? How is tranportation to airport and downtown via train/ subway other modes of public transit? Anything to see or do in immediate vicinity? Can I stay here for 10k HH points (like every other Scandic) or is it really a "classic" property as stated on the hotel homepage of the Scandic site? Thanks
Stayed there in Feb, 10K points. Good breakfast. Can't help with public transportation as we had a rental car. I do know that they didn't have a shuttle from or to airport. I usually drop my rental car off the day before we leave Frankfurt and stay at the Holiday Inn airport North as they have free shuttle from and to airport as well as a rate of around 40 Euro, does not include breakfast though. safe travels Fargo
