JetBlue TrueBlue - Bird-Strike, Emergency Landing, Cxld Flight

I was on an Aruba-JFK that was forced to land after taking off following a bird-strike to the engine. The engine was damaged and we were rebooked for the following day. The airline put us up in a hotel. I feel we deserve more than this. We should be entitled to free R/T tickets. We are your thoughts?

Be thankful that you had an excellent pilot who was able to handle an emergency that, in the past, resulted in fatal crashes.

Why in the world would you think you deserve compensation? Is JetBlue responsible for birds?

The compensation I am seeking goes beyond the bird strike. Its the events following the strike are the real issues.

We sat on the plane for 1 hour at the gate after landing so mechanics can inspect the plane.
Its waiting at the gate for a half hour,, after deplaning, to figure out where where going.
Its waiting on the buses for 45 mins for an unknown reason.
Its the poor choice in hotel that doesn't allow children and being bused again to a sister hotel.
Its the putting a family of 4 in a suite with only two beds.

It was a disaster!

Add up what you feel are owed. Send a registered letter to their General Counsel giving him 14 days to pay. If not, file for Small Claims Court. Big companies never show up in SCC so you will get a default judgment...then you collect by having a bailiff go to the airport to seize an aircraft 20min before departure...and you will have your money.

I read a great line on FT some time ago on compensation requests that I feel is worth repeating.

"I was driving to work one morning when out of nowhere, traffic backed up then came to a complete stop. My fellow motorists and I at first just saw there, then inched up ever-so-slightly. Finally after about half hour--maybe 45 mins--I was able to determine the traffic was due to a minor fender-bender. Throughout all this time, no information was provided. Emergency services never informed other vehicles. Radio traffic reports also weren't of much help. The result of all this was I was late to work. How much compensation am I owed from all parties involved in this fiasco."

To the OP in terms of compensation, I think being able to walk away from this situation and being able to talk about it speaks for itself. Maybe you can go after the bird's estate for something. Good luck.

It was a disaster!I'm just speechless.

Well, perhaps not totally speechless.

One point and one question:

The point:

A "disaster" would have been the plane losing both engines, crashing into the sea, and killing everyone aboard. A "disaster" is not having to wait while the airline found you free accommodation, or your kids having to share a bed.

The question:

What's the name of the hotel in Aruba that doesn't allow children? My wife and I would be interested in staying there.

Agreed.

To the OP, read the CoC. Airlines are generally obligated to get you from point A to point B. They need not do so in a timely fashion due to canceled flights, weather, mechanical issues, etc. Why do you "deserve" a free flight?

^^ I would like to know as well.

Why should they compensate you for saving your life?

OP, you forgot to add that you had to go through Aruba Customs, and then US Customs the next day. Please be sure to add that horribly tramatic experience to your suit.

In another forum I playfully suggested that rants be collected and at the end of the year we vote on them in categories.
ie;
Stupidest
most senseless
vitriolic
most petty

Maybe it is not so silly after all

After being removed from one Jetblue flight previously and complaining on the forum I am surprised the OP posted another complaint against Jetblue. If I was so dissatisfied previously I would avoid the company altogether

Maybe the OP should avoid Jetblue as they obviously cannot provide the service to which he feels entitled to receive

You think you read the best elite post of the year and then everyday someone tops it.

@OP Why the heck would B6 owe you a free RT?

You need to sue the bird that struck the plane.

OH NOES! there was confusion and some waiting times whilst an airline scrambled to find hotels for ~150 passengers after the pilots avoided a crash! I demand justice! Oh and the free hotel wasn't up to my standards!!

God. Why didn't I think of this before? Let's go find that bird and sue him into oblivion!

I wonder what the OP has been doing the past 8 months since this happened? (http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2011/05/15/bird-strike-forces-emergency-landing-at-jfk/)

(Oh, and it was JFK-Aruba, not the other way 'round)

I just found this thread, hilarious. I was actually on CO plane which got stuck at the gate for an hour while waiting for that JetBlue flight to come back to Aruba. Should we sue the op, because we got delayed because of his flight.

Class action against the bird.

Well I would say the Birds family should be compensated. The A320 aircraft entered the birds space and killed it. The A320 should definitely be put in prison for 15-20 for murder and the family of the bird should be very well compensated. The OP in this case was an accomplice to murder by riding on the A320 so I would actually argue that the OP probably should be locked up too.....

All kidding aside: why would the OP deserve any type of compensation for this? I just don't get the American mentality of $$$$ for everything. It is truly quite sad and pathetic. And then people say that the OP should sue JetBlue.....wow....truly the "American" way. Sometimes I am even embarrassed to be an American and associated with this type of behavior.
