This is a self pay event... since it's a smaller amount than Mega Dos I don't take payments in advance.
La Bonne takes all major credit cards. In the past if there are several tables they will do a separate check for each table. One person at each table will put on the card... most people simply pay cash.

Traditionally, the DO organizer collects cash, and pays for the event using his credit card. ;) This started because most restaurants won't take 25 credit cards.

After my first drive from PA to NYC costing me $50 in tolls and gas , I vowed never again to drive. Amtrak's AAA-discounted fare is $45. It's a win-win-win: less money, a more relaxing trip (or one I can be productive on and work during), and not having to deal with the car once in NY.
Since that time, I have taken the train to NYC exactly 0 times and have instead driven up twice. At least this time, I will be going home with two boxes of wine--well, 1.4 boxes, since .6 of a box was enjoyed with 7 FlyerTalkers last night on a Roosevelt Island roof. ;) (Yes, do the math--that equals one bottle each. :D)
In any case, I was planning on doing Amtrak for the Soup Do, but I may be persuaded to car-share--the tolls and gas can be split, effectively making it a better deal than Amtrak...
Oh, and I should say: I will enjoy being the envy of Dovster! :p

If you know how to drive a manual transmission and don't have an aversion to dog fur, I can donate my Jeep to the trip. However, when I mention dog fur, keep in mind that I have a husky/lab mix that sheds twice a year... Each one lasts 6 months! :) She has black and white fur, so if you wear black, it shows as white fur. If you wear white, it shows as black fur. :D

I got my plane tickets today so I guess it's for real! I'm scheduled into EWR at 6:51 PM so if all goes well I'll be at LBS right on time. Let's hope it does.
EWR ? I'm sure you know this already, but the only way to midtown that time of day is Airtrain > NJTransit > Penn Sta > E train to 53rd and Fifth Ave. Walk two short blocks north and half block west.
Friday evening inbound Lincoln Tunnel by Taxi is good for 60 min plus. Avoid that.

That's how I plan to do it, but I do appreciate the explanation. No way I'm coming to New York and not sticking to public transit!

I'm approved to leave work at noon on 6/1 so as long as I don't misconnect on the express bus, I should be there with a lot of time to spare.

Two things:
Just found out that since school is closed on Monday (for Memorial Day... duhh I should have known that) I'll have class Friday. I get out at noon but with any luck I'll have a job by then, but I don't think I'll be late.

This is a big issue, but not to worry. I'm allergic too. Once you attend a local NYC event, you're given a lifetime membership in The Alley Cats.
This is one group where you don't have to worry about sneezing.
I'm sure Catman will add his purr-fect 4 paws to this conversation.
Shameless plug for WineDo. ;)

I just got back from Hong Kong and its almost time for NYC!!!!!. I cancelled my previous hotel in Chealsea as I just booked Marriott Marquis for $175 a night on priceline (50% off the last minute rate of $350 a night). Much closer to soup and I get out earlier from work so unless the bus breaks down ill be there on time.

Catman,
I really was hoping to join in on Friday night, but have to bow out. A friend is coming up from FLL, and this will sadly force my hand. I kept saying but Janice, to no avail.
The good news is that I'm still allowed my Saturday and Sunday with my Flyertalk friends.

Dhammer and gless... sorry you can't make it.

If anyone's on the fence please let me know your plans. I will tell the restaurant 20 are coming. If there are last minutes they can add on

FYI if you have to bow out please call the restaurant so they can adjust numbers. Reservation is under Mark Blanchard.
Right now I booked a party of 20 which I think will cover us.
One question from La Bonne... would you all prefer individual checks or one or two checks to a Flyertalker and the rest pay cash (i'm planning on paying cash... I'll give my miles to whomever)
See you in less than 24 hours!

No longer simply one of Les Possibles.
I'm a confirmed YES, or a OUI, or whatever. See you at La Bonne Soupe tomorrow evening.

I'm partial to earning miles (especially double miles at restaurants) but will do cash if it's in the interests of the group. :)
See you all soon!

I'm in the US club at PIT right now. On to CLE for a long layover and will be arriving at LGA at 6:44pm.
I should have enough time to stop at my friend's on Roosevelt Island and drop my bag off and still make it there by 8pm. :)

Well I spoke too soon :( Flow control delay into all NY airports including ground stops. ATL-EWR stopped boarding halfway through, we're looking at at least a 40 minute delay out of here so I'll definitely be late. I apologize in advance, I just hope to make it by 9. Have them save some soup for me!

Thanks for a wonderful evening folks, meeting new Flyertalkers and catching up with others I haven't seen in awhile. Hope you all had a great time.
There will be a Soup Do 10 next year... but I could be convinced to host special Soup Dos if you come to NYC... or host dinners at other places you like. I LOVE Cats but I like being able to talk to Humans.
Enjoy the BRT and have a MEOWY weekend!

Stuffed from a post-soup pastrami at Carnegie Deli, so apologies if my post is nonsensical due to a food coma. Great to see old friends and put some new faces to names. See most of you tomorrow, some of you Sunday, and a few of you in Anchorage!

I wanted to thank yall for making this such a fun event for me, it was my first Soup DO and second DO ever and I just can't wait til the next one, wherever it may be! And the after-party at Carnegie was pretty fun too! My grandma is gonna love the corned beef sandwich I'm bringing her today.
Hope everyone who's going on the BRT has a blast today, and yall at the Wine DO have fun at that too.
By the way... did anybody see an umbrella on the table at Carnegie? When I got off the subway it was raining and I realized mine was missing :( I was gonna retire it anyway but it was still a bit earlier than I would have liked.
Happy travels! :)

I'll post the group pictures tomorrow when I get to work, I only do stuff like that when I'm on the clock :p
See everyone at next year's Do and hopefully sooner!
At least I have a good excuse since I do not hang around Americans and your nutty language on a daily basis ;)
I'm very glad I was able to make it to Soup Do, even though getting there proved to be a Mileage Run on the roads of New York City, ugh.
Thanks to everyone and a special thanks to Catman for organizing this annual event! ^
Oh, at the Deli afterwards, I was conversing with FortFun about the near impossibility of seeing a person from Edmonton's photograph hanging on the walls, and no sooner than those words were out of my mouth, I immediately found an Edmonton radio personality's pic (circa 1990) on the wall  Good times!
