Frontier Airlines EarlyReturns - Frontier's new boarding process

For all of the disgruntled passengers who complained about the unsatisfactory boarding process, a new system should be in place by sometime in February.

Any hints on what the boarding system will be? is it like United's window, middle, aisle seats (after Ascent and Classic boarding)?

I'm pretty sure it will be zone boarding. I'm guessing like US Airways.

My boarding passes recently have had a zone number on them as of late.

Assuming that the zone numbers are automatically and consistantly assigned, it will make boarding more reliable. Some GA do it in a slightly different order...sometimes small cildren are before, with or after the elite FF, and sometimes rows 1-4 are forgotten. If the system knows what zone to put on your ticket, it's not subject to forgetting.

This web page will be updated February 1st to reflect Zone boarding.

Zone boarding has been printing on boarding passes for a several months now. Check it next time you fly. The new boarding process was originally scheduled to roll out in 4th quarter but was postponed to February to give CSA's time to recover from the heavy holiday loads before changing the process. If you need confirmation ask a CSA at any ATO. They're quite friendly when your not asking for seats, upgrades or early boarding. ;)

When do I need to be at the gate?

We recommend being at the gate well ahead of your flight. We usually begin boarding about 30 to 35 minutes before departure time. In any case, you must be at the gate ready to board 10 minutes prior to scheduled departure or your reservation may be cancelled and your seats may be released to other passengers.

When we board a flight, we board in the following order:

Passengers with Special Needs — including anyone needing wheelchair or other boarding assistance and unaccompanied minors. For discretion, no announcement will be made for special needs boarding. If you require assistance with boarding, please check-in with the Frontier agent when you arrive at the gate so that they know you desire to board first.
Priority Boarding — offered to Ascent and Summit level members of Frontier's EarlyReturns® frequent flyer program, as well as anyone traveling on a Classic Plus ticket.
Courtesy Boarding — offered to families traveling with small children (under 5 years of age), any passengers seated in STRETCH seating, and any other passengers requiring additional time or assistance with boarding.
Express Boarding — offered to anyone without carry-on bags or a personal item that can fit under the seat and does not require space in the overhead bins.
General Boarding — for anyone who does not qualify for Priority, Courtesy, or Express boarding. General Boarding is done by row numbers starting from the rear of the aircraft working forward.

Zonal boarding rolled out today and seemed to flow better except people carrying too much on-board.
