Swiss International Airlines - Award ticket: Opup / using evoucher as HON

Hi,

I have a C award flight (I) on swiss flight in a few weeks, and there only a few seats left in C, while F is completely empty as of now.

My status in HON (but with LH).

I was wondering:

-- If business does get overbooked, might I have a shot at an opup? On LH I have gotten opups on award C tickets many times.

-- If I don't get an opup, but there is space left in F when I'm at the gate, can I use evouchers to upgrade to First? On LH, it is possible to use evouchers for award tickets.

Thanks.

On 1), the rule-book answer is "no op-ups on award tickets" but my experience with LX suggests that when push comes to shove (i.e. no other upgradeable HONs in paid C), you may stand a chance.

On 2), dunno. I was not aware that on LH evouchers can be used to upgrade awards from I to O. Is this a HON-only benefit?

Hi,

1) As a Sen on an award, Mrs Saviox(no status at that time) and myself were op-uped MUC-JFK from C to F, but also I have heart that is against the rules.

AFAIK LH HONs and LX HONs makes no difference.

2) I doubt it can be done, even for HONs

Op-up with an award ticket: yes, possible.
Upgrade with vouchers or miles for an award ticket: no.
Both from own experience.

I have the same experience.

1) Definitely possible to be upgraded from I to F/O. In my experience of being just a FTL, I have been upgraded from X to I more than 10 times (and one time from X to F with a nice F mileage credit) when flights were overbooked by more than 30 people; and surprise-surprise: there was not a single SEN/HON on board (just a few *G who were left in M).

2) Normally, agents should not do it. However, if you find an agent who has a nice day and is willing to do some typing on his/her PC, then you could (provided you are at least 1,5 hours before the flight). Such procedures. although not allowed by fare rules of I tickets, can be modified if such modifications are in the interest of LH/LX. After all, the only thing that LH/LX cares is your money (and the more, the better).

On a side note: It is worth doing a retro-credit for flights on which one has been upgraded. If upgrading in a hurry, agents may wrongly re-isssue a ticket, thereby re-booking one into a paid fare class. Recently, on a domestic German flight I was upgraded from X to C. The boarding pass said C (but I was sure that unlike a few previous times, all BPs that reflect upgrade at a gate would have C rather than I, even though the ticket would be re-issued into I class). To my surprise, this time C was a real C class.

Fair enough, but these operational upgrades are different to what the OP asked for, arenīt they?

Interesting and valid point. However, do you always have your tickets retro-credited? If you donīt and your miles get automatically credited based on the booking class you originally paid for, do you then still go and apply for a retro-credit?

As far as I understand, the OP is asking about the chance to be upgraded on an award ticket if (i) the flight is overbooked or (ii) if miles/e-vouchers can be used for an upgrade in case the flight in question is not overbooked. I referred to being upgraded from X to I (and from I to O) in a situation when my flights were overbooked and LH upgraded me for free.

I do rectro-credit in cases when I am booked in X/I and I have been upgraded to I/O just in case agents do not re-issue the ticket properly. If miles post automatically for originally booked class and I am upgraded, then yes, there is no point in doing retro-credit.

I do rectro-credit in cases when I am booked in X/I and I have been upgraded to I/O just in case agents do not re-issue the ticket properly. So you are consciously applying for mileage credit for a flight that was originally a reward (I,X) and therefore not eligible, in the hope that you can outsmart the system or benefit from somebody else's mistake.

I find this behavior :td: , especially considering that you have already received a nice op-up from the agent in question. Where has the notion of being nice instead of greedy gone?

I do not view this as trying to "outsmart the system or benefit from somebody else's mistake." This is the enhancement I decided to introduce to enhance my relationship with LH after has been introducing its enhancements to enhance its relationship with me since August 2004 (sorry for tautologies, could not help, but...). The "the notion of being nice instead of greedy" IS gone since the aforementioned August 2004 and all subsequent events.

I am not going to justify my behavior, nor am I saying that you absolutely have to follow mine.

+1

if the credit automatically the miles of the new op-uped class, fine, but to retroclaim :(, I find going a bit over the limit.
