Has anyone been to either or both of the Hampton Inn or Homewood Suites downtown Seattle - and have any comparisons.

I was booked into Hampton - and then saw Homewood on Expedia with 4th night free. Do Expedia special rates qualify for CNTU or as Hhonors stays?

I've been to Homewood Suites but NOT Hampton in Seattle. Spent 12 nights there a year and a half ago. Recommend it highly.

My review is under the thread "Homewood Suites Reviews."

Although it's not IN downtown Seattle, but a little north, it's certainly close enough. Also, it's walking distance to Seattle Center and all the attractions there (live theater, Space Needle, Experience Music Project, amusement park stuff, etc.). If you're going to Seattle soon, try to see the play "Nickel and Dimed" -- I just saw it during my SeaDoo visit. Excellent.

I was at Hampton Inn & Suites in downtown SEA just a few weeks ago. Hotel is really on the edge of downtown. It is a little old and starting to show it. My rate was decent ($119) and I was cheerfully upgraded to a suite. Service was good, parking was free and available. All in all it was an OK experience, but not great.

The Hampton is by the Space Needle and the Homewoood is south of the Space Needle off of Western Ave.

Neither are right in downtown and are a short walk to downtown, or cab ride. If it isn't raining, neither is a big deal. You could catch a city bus as well.

The Homewood is a superior property. Free Beer and food every week night (the food could count as a dinner most nights). No swimming pool. The rooms are 2 rooms with a kitchen/living room area and a bedroom. Several grocery stores right around if you want to make dinner.

Hampton has a swimming pool. If that is what you want, do this. But if you don't care, the Homewood is the way to go.

Thanks for the feedback so far -

Actually the Homewood is a little closer to where I'll be working - but I'll have a car, so it shouldn't matter too much.

I don't care about the pool - but do they have good (or any) fitness centers? Probably if I liked beer that would be the kicker - but I'm more partial to lemonade or Pepsi.

any ideas on if the Expedia special rate counts

The Homewood is due WEST of the Space Needle. It's between John and Thomas Streets (as is the Space Needle), on the tail end of Western Ave., where it merges into Elliott Ave. (By Elliott Bay.)

Attending a business dinner cruise on Friday, Aug 1 and want to stay close to the loading point which is in South Lake Union.
Have stated at downtown Hilton and not a fan. Am a Diamond, but doubt if either property will have much more than simple "perks" to make me feel special. If you have stayed at either or both, please let me know what you think. Of importance is neighborhood, cleanliness, and breakfast accomodations. Thank you.

The hampton Inn is a half regular hotel, half suites hotel in a very wierd setup. When you walk past the middle of the hotel the doors become white and that means you are in the suites section. The suites feature kitchens, fireplaces and balconies.
It is located at the NE corner of the Seattle Center - within walking distance to lake union (depends where on the lake). Parking is free and secured.

The Homewood is located next to the waterfront, west of the Seattle center. It is quite a standard Homewood with nice decorations in the rooms but nothing special.
It is not within walking distance to lake union and they charge for parking.

On Lake union there are 3 properties that are woth checking - Marriott's Courtyard and Residence Inn (very nice one), and the Silver Cloud (kind of an upscale Hampton Inn).

Went to Hilton.com and was surprised to see no rooms available at the Hampton and best rates of $189/nt for Homewood. The downtown HH had low price for downtown HH properties @ $161. Thanks for the reply.
