Good day.

I am flying FRA - ZRH - YUL. Currently on a 1030 departure from FRA to ZRH. Will Swiss allow me to catch a slightly earlier flight in the morning if I check in a bit early? Would like to get on the 0900 if possible to allow a bit more connecting time in Zurich.

I am flying in J from FRA and connecting to F from Zurich.

Thanks for any advice.

It all depends on your booking class and type of fare. Ie: Award redemption or revenue...
When are you flying this route?
I am flying the exact same route, departing FRA on the 9:00am flight in J and connecting to YUL also in F.

Cheers

Unless you have a super flexible revenue fare (last minute changes permitted), the answer to such a request at check-in will be no - unlike in the US, European carriers typically don't allow free last-minute standby.

(There is an off chance, however, of your willingness to get on an earlier flight serving the airline, i.e. because your ticketed flight shows as overbooked, delayed or otherwise troubled. In which case any rule can be bent.)

I guess the trick being that it never hurts to ask!!!

I second that. Lately I've had two good examples with SK.

On my way back from a day meeting once from TOS and once from TRD, I was in time to catch an earlier flight. I had the cheapest economy ticket (Norwegian domestic anyway), which does not normally allow changes.

In TOS the guy at check in was simply nice and accomodating (I suspect he took my Amex Plat/EBG card for a Pandion card though), and rebooked me without asking anything. My boss was on the same flight (he's not EBG and was on a different booking), and the SK guy first did not want to help him, but when he mentionned he was travelling with me, then it awas ok :D

In TRD, the flight I was supposed to catch was delayed and overbooked, therefore they had no problem rebooking me on an earlier flight.

In anycase, just ask (be polite and stuff), it does not hurt.

If you dont' get it your way, just accept it and walk away, you only end up with what you paid for.

Thats i like in US - arrived one day too early in DEN and at checkin they directly asked from their side if i like to take the earlier flight as there would be enough time to catch it.

(was just a bad decission as i'd then a 1h longer layover in ORD and the lounge was closed for renovation :D)

It's probably a good idea to say you would be willing to take the earlier flight if that helps their operation (e.g. because of overbooking) -- that way it's you doing something for the airline and not the airline doing something for you.
