Friend is planning a trip to Brazil sometime in May. Dates flexible. Anyone have any sense of whether there are likely to be airfare sales on seats to Brazil anytime in the next couple of months (from NYC or PHL area), or should they just go ahead and purchase ticket now?
Any discount thoughts out there?
Thanks for any suggestions. (Traveler is the girlfriend of my daughter's boyfriend's brother -- so just trying to help her out, not using my miles to get her a ticket.)
Hello Djlawman,
May 1st is a national holiday, the fares should be higher that week.
Fares are usually around 1000 USD R/T. There was an great sale two weeks ago with fares around 600USD, but it's not common.
I personally think you should not take too long to purchase it.
regards,
I agree with above on buying soon (assuming the person is ready to commit to a non-refundable fare). Can't bank on sales, and fares in general are tending upward, so they could end up paying more, rather thanless, by waiting. I would, of course, check the usual Web sites, as well as travel agents or consolidators (which don't seem as useful as they once were). you don't say where in Brazil the friend is going. There are many options for flights. While TAM and American fly to Sao Paulo and Rio non-stop from JFK, and Continental does from Newark, there are also many other options involving stops, including TACA, Copa, etc., etc., as well as other U.S. carriers involving one stop (e.g., Continental-United, US Airways, Delta). American flies to Recife (via Miami) and Delta, among others, flies to Brasilia, in case the friend isn't going all the way south to SP or Rio.

Tell your daughter to tell her boyfriend to tell his brother to tell his girlfriend - did I it right? :D -
to inquire at BACC in NY 1-800-222-2746.
