National - Gaming the 'Executive Aisle' selection in Kauai

I have an upcoming 8 day family trip to Kauai and I've got 2 car reservations for the 10 of us. One is at Budget for a full size because they have the best rate, and my other is at National for a midsize at about $100 more than the Budget full size. My strategy is that we'd really like an SUV or a minivan, but the rates for those at every agency are over $500, and I'm figuring that I'll have a good shot at getting to choose one of these in the Executive Aisle for my midsize rate.

So my question is this: We are arriving on a Saturday evening and leaving the next Sunday. I'm guessing that Saturday is a huge arrival day in Kauai and probably Sunday is a big departure day. So would it be a good idea to book an additional car at Budget for one night and change my National reservation to pick up Sunday so that I could just drive back to the airport the day after we arrive and get a much better choice of vehicles in the Executive Aisle? This sounds like a lot of trouble, but if it would offer a much better chance of getting an SUV or van it would be worth my time.

Any thoughts on this from frequent Kauai renters?

I know I have very few posts on here but, in this case and considering I've was on an annual vacation for more than a decade to the Islands I would suggest... The Islands, for obvious reasons have a select inventory that is only of concern during peak travel times.

If your trip is 'upcoming' then I would think your consideration is valid if you're in/out during high occupancy times (?-mid February). Otherwise, and especially on Kauai, the inventory isn't likely to differ much based on the expected travel vacation travel patterns.

In short, if you're upcoming trip is any other time than mid-February then I don't expect you'll be gaining much advantage by your suggested ...gaming the exec.aisle path.
HNL or OGG might be a different story but not really in Kauai IMO.

Thanks for the info, very helpful.

My trip has a Jan 28th arrival, so probably not 'peak'.
