Im planning on travelling to Munich around the second week of April this year. I was wondering what the weather I should expect? Would I encounter problems with snow if I tried to drive to Switzerland an Austria, ect..? Thanks

I wouldn't bet on any problems that late in the season, but you never know. This had been a mild winter compared to the last two years, if that helps any.

In any case, all three countries you mention do a good job of clearing the snow from the roads when it does happen.

We've had snow in mid April only a few years ago, so yes it will happen. Easter is in very early April this year, so if you go by the rule of thumb that the snow if over by easter, you should be OK :)

In any case, snow is expected and cleared by the agencies, and all cars in Austria and Germany have to have winter tyres. If you want to cross the alps over the passes you may need snow chains, which the rental companies will provide you with on request.

April is proverbial for being very changeable. You can expect to encounter any kind of weather from snowstorm and rain to brightest sunshine and almost summery conditions. If you don't like the weather, wait for 15 minutes;-)

Sure, there can still be fresh snow in the mountains, depending how high up you go. At high altitudes winter lasts until early June.

Winter set in late this year. The Alps got an enormous load of snow just last week. Predictions 3 months in advance are impossible, though.

Since we had everything in terms of weather this April, I would be curious to know how your trip went?

That's an understatement. And they're calling for 28 this weekend!

Old news now, but we woke up to find the ground in Munchen covered with snow on Easter morning.

We just got back. Our first day in April was in the low 40's and we were freezing. The rest of the time it was warm and beautiful and we were in the beer gardens in short sleeves with no jackets. We had planned on 50's and maybe low 60's so we were surprised by how beautiful it was.
