Hawaii - Kona Village Alternative?
We've gone to Kona Village a number of times over the years, but as a result of last year's tsunami, it looks like they'll be shut down for at least 2 more years. I realize that it's a pretty unique place, but I would appreciate suggestions for any other places (on any of the islands) that have the same sort of "barefoot luxury" that KV had -- a place where you could get in the car and go off on day trips, but you never do because everything you want is right there. Good food, friendly staff, laid-back atmosphere -- and ideally no TVs, telephones, etc. (We aren't cost-conscious, but we're not looking for the big glitzy high-end luxury resorts -- just a beautiful, cozy place to really get away and refresh.)

The neighboring Four Seasons Hualalai is pretty spread out nice, and luxurious.. but I personally stay at the Fairmont, but visiting their for dinner we had the impressions that it was natural refined on many parts of their resort..
I thought Fairmont Mayakoba was pretty decent as well, sort of on the lines of KV where their signature and beach casitas sit.. but that's in the Mayan Riviera..

I don't believe there is such a place on the Big Island. In Kauai, there are some cottages (Plantation Village?) that have hotel amenities/service, but not an all inclusive, nor luxurious, like the KVR.

The Travaasa Hana is the only other all-inclusive AFAIK. Previously known as the Hotel Hana.

Biras Creek on Virgin Gorda in the Caribbean. Just back (we've stayed at KV 10 times) and it was great with meals included, no phones, no TVs, staff similar to KV in that we shared hugs when we were leaving. You take boats (included) out to get around instead of cars. Dinners actually better than KV, lunches and breakfasts not as good. Snorkeling not as good. Lots of hikes on property. Rooms literally right on the ocean's edge.
