WestJet Rewards - "Winter Texans" lobby for Westjet service

A bunch of Winter Texans think it would be a good idea for WestJet, a low-cost air carrier based in Calgary, Alberta, to begin offering nonstop flights between Winnipeg and the Rio Grande Valley, at least during the winter.

My in-laws just drove to Texas (SAT area). If I was going anywhere for the season, I would drive too, so I had my car.

I would rank the chances of this occuring somewhere between "fat chance" and "snowballs chance".

I suspect many people who maintain homes in both Canada and south Texas also maintain vehicles in both locations. And I also suspect some of them would like to fly back to Canada once or twice each winter (or fly the grandkids down for Christmas) without the hassle of a connection somewhere. But yes, I agree that this would seem to be a long shot as far as Westjet is concerned.

How many connections would that involve?
I wish AA would add YWG and YEG though... They see more opportunity in Kitchener, really??

And no more YYC ORD....
better than what we have from YVR, 2 nonstops a day to DFW.
And remember that service from YLW is on a Mad Dog....

CO, er, UA, offers multiple daily flights from BRO, HRL, and MFE to IAH, with connections onwards to YYC, YEG, and YYZ. If the demand existed, CO would fly IAH-YWG, offering winter Texans a one-stop option. I believe AA flies to MFE and SWA flies HOU-HRL.
Brownsville probably will have to offer subsidies for this flight to be considered. My guess is this is a vocal minority.
