Avianca/Taca LifeMiles - Where should I register my Avianca LifeMiles Account?
Greetings All,
I've been travelling Avianca a lot for work lately and want to start a Life Miles account. Question: Is there any advantage to using an address in the US vs. Brazil or Colombia?
I know that some airlines have better benefits depending on where you live, and I can register based on any of those place. Any experience to share?
Separately: Isn't Avianca/TACA now big enough to merit its own forum?
Thank you!
After checking with some people inside Avianca, there is actually no difference in the benefits depending on where you register yourself in the program.
Just thought I would share since I now know the answer...

There are actually subtle differences. Two that spring to mind
a) If you register in Colombia then purchases of lifemiles such as in the 2x1 promo will attract an 18% tax on top of your miles purchase. No idea why, Colombia doesn't even have an 18% tax rate. Peru you don't pay the 18% tax, although Peru does have an 18% tax rate. Register in the USA to avoid tax on lifemiles purchases.
b) 5000 puntos Exito plus $14,900 = 500 Lifemiles. That is about the same cost as buying them in a 2x1 promo so not really worth doing. Occasionally both Exito and Avianca will chip in an extra 25% each and you get 750 lifemiles instead of 500. If you register in Colombia they will email you to tell you when that is happening.

I genuinely don't think so, plus LifeMiles is a shonky FF scheme, they loaded no inventory up for 2012 until mid December, they sell lifemiles on a promo then put the redemption values up. The website is a sack of pants and doesn't work, the customer services is utter crap and frankly they deserve to wallow in this sub forum with Spirit

As stated above there's no benefit to registering your account in a specific country. This would be true with LanPass as members with Peruvian addresses can qualify for tier status at a lower threshold.
Lifemiles is not the best and to our surprise the redemption levels do seem to be outrageous at times like they took a lesson from CO Onepass. But to get elite status at 20K miles is not too shabby. It will be interesting to see Star Alliance status in relation to Lifemiles status when they finally join.
