Got stranded an extra day in TUS this past week when my AA flight went mx. Wanted a car for the extra day. Usually I'm a Hertz customer but didn't want to pay the $60 they needed. The guy at the Avis counter was nice and told me he'd give me a "manager's special" for $42 + tax, coming to $52. We chatted as he did the paperwork and when he finished writing it up, it was $42 including the tax.
When we returned it at 4 AM the next day, having driven less than 40 miles but filled up, the person on duty could take the car but not give a receipt - clearly this was "before hours". I said no problem, but pointed out that I'd filled up, not to ding me with the small mileage rental fuel fee. She asked if I had a receipt for the fuel, which I did not. She wrote a special note on the front of the RA.
Charge posted as $42 to my credit card.
They were good people.
