I have this partially-baked idea of having my family rent an apartment for a week in Manhattan this summer. My almost-15 daughter would love to take an art class at a musuem or arts organization. Any ideas? Thanks.

Whoops -- that is a bit ambiguous. I meant art classes, but I'll gratefully receive any recommendations on an apartment. I'd be looking for a 2 or 3 bdm. for something around $3-4k for the week in Midtown or the Upper West/East Side. Ideally we would be close to the art class. dhuey Jan 8, 12, 12:51 pm Try contacting the 92nd Street Y. http://www.92y.org/ Their programs for adults, teens and kids are quite extensive! That looks very promising! Thanks so much. It appears that they haven't set up this summer's schedule, but the 2011 summer art programs looked ideal for artistic teens. I sent the art dept. an email. dhuey Jan 8, 12, 12:53 pm check out Met museum http://www.metmuseum.org/learn/for-teens Also during the summer on weekends the Childrens Museum of the Arts has free stuff on Governors Island I would think MoMa probably does something too Thanks. I sent an email to MoMa several days ago, but haven't gotten a response. I didn't see anything at the Met that looked promising, but I'll keep an eye on their site. themicah Jan 8, 12, 7:02 pm The Educational Alliance (http://www.edalliance.org/index.php?submenu=YAP&src=gendocs&ref=YAP&category=Young%20Artists%20Program) downtown also has youth art programs, although they're in the midst of a big renovation on their main building so the programs are somewhat scattered. They often have summer pre-college programs for high schoolers. Cooper Union, Parsons, Pratt, and maybe the SVA might have some offerings. |
