EDIT: As some of you may have read: BER won't be open on June 3rd. It was announced that the opening will be in spring 2013.
The Holiday Inn Schönefeld has already cancelled the BBQ and the Party. It is very likely that most of the people will cancel their journey.

the new BER Airport will be opened in the morning of June 3rd 2012 and TXL/SXF will cease their operations in the evening of June 2nd.

On VFT there are plenty of people who will meet in Berlin and have a look at the new Airport. The HI near SXF seems to be kind of a "headquarter".

At the moment, it looks like there will be no fixed program. The intention is a casual weekend and experience of the new airport. (which is a pretty rare event...)

If anyone has a nice idea of something that fits in the short time frame (Sat 2 Jun to Sun 3 Jun), feel free to contribute. :)
As you can see on the list the arrival and departure is spread over the complete day.

Just a few driving minutes from BER & complementary shuttle service by the hotel is provided. Be aware that this hotel is nearly in the middle of nowhere. As you can see http://g.co/maps/uxj7x a ride to the City is about 20km and the Autobahn 113 will be closed for the transport of the airport stuff during the night.

Of course Berlin offers a lot of alternatives which are likely to be nicer and in the center of the city. All the inner city hotels are connected to BER by public transportation which is not to bad.

It is getting bigger than I expected. We are already 55 people from VFT und FT.

Most people are flying in 02 Jun and leave 03 Jun. On of the first planes will be a LH A380 at 6 o'clock in the morning.

The most popular hotels are the Holiday Inn Airport (18) and the Intercontinental (6).

Sounds like a fun weekend. :)

How did you manage a seat on LH171? It's showing J0Y0 at the moment for revenue bookings (and it seems no seats have been released to partners for awards).

As flyingING mentioned on VFT (the German forum), Airberlin will operate a short sightseeing flight as the last flight out of TXL and into SXF on June 2nd.

35 mins flight, B737, 166 Euros for a window seat or 111 Euros for a middle/aisle seat. Apparently this can't be booked through Airberlin. Personally I'm interested, but find the price exaggerated.

It's possible, that I will be also there. Arriving with the last MUC-TXL flight and departing with the first BER-MUC flight.

Due to the changes of the departure airport TXL->BER and departure time some while ago my ticket for FRA-TXL/BER-FRA had to be changed by LH, which had been done in November or so. Since that time I could not change my seating for LH 171 BER-FRA on June 3rd and on Lufthansa/my bookings there was A321 stated but no seat map visible. As I last looked into the booking today I now see a seatmap for an A321 again and can chose a seat. I was the second one to do so apparently in eco which is also a bit exotic.

I hope this is no sign that indeed LH 171 will be on an A321 and there will be a separate A380 flight before LH 171...

On the other side, LH 171 is still zeroed-out in any classes and all other flights are wide open for booking...

Any info, rumors or news on the A 380...?

Also interesting IMO: LH 171 is BER-FRA now for quite some time, but LH 200 the evening before is still FRA-TXL, despite arriving at 22:50. Maybe LH plans do do a public repositioning flight also in the night over to SXF/BER?

I just see one flight changed for arrival to SXF on the evening of June 2nd so far:

Arriving: 02/06/12 20:30

Seems that LH has finally adjusted their last flights into TXL, LH2052 from MUC should be the last one.
I forced LH to rebook me from FRA-TXL onto MUC-TXL :D

FYI: I don't know, if anybody has noticed, that Berlin Brandenburg has delayed its opening.
TXL and SXF are going to stay open until further notice.
