Thailand - Doi Mae Salong - Accomodation

Any 'nice' place to stay ?

Not looking for some fancy Amans, but a decent room with comfortable bed, decent size flat tv, wireless internet and clean/dry bathroom. Not quite willing to rough it out ....

Are you looking in Doi Mae Salang proper? There's really not much there.

Assuming you have transportation there are many 'resorts' up road 1130 from Pa Sang, which is just north of Mae Chan.

We recently stayed at Katiliya Resort, about 20 km from muang Mae Salong, and it was quite nice.

Thought it would be nice to stay in town for a night or two, since it's supposed to be culturally unique. But I guess I will probably just do a day trip from Chiang Rai.

And thanks for recommending Katiliya, it does look great and seem to be a good alternative to the LM Chiang Rai.

We booked the Katiliya from Agoda into the Thai suite. Due to problems we were moved to the Mountain suite and it was fantastic.

We stayed a night in the Katiliya and then drove through Doi Mae Salong on toward Doi Tung. After that back down to Chiang Rai. It was a good day and nice to be up in the hills.

I stayed a few nights in Mae Salong in 2004 while backpacking and enjoyed it. The market in the morning, the cheap Burmese cheroots etc. Waking up with the mosque less so. But there's not much int he way of accommodation in the town proper. Certainly not without roughing it.
