JetBlue TrueBlue - JetBlue can't find my luggage after 2 and a half days

Hi, I would like someone that this has happened to or someone that might know what happens when you come across a situation like mine.

So this is my second time traveling JetBlue and I was returning back to Boston from Seattle on a nonstop redeye leaving SEA at 11:55 PM arriving in BOS at 7:50. I checked my luggage in about 45 minutes before scheduled departure. The guy over the counter told me the flight was delayed about half an hour. I arrived at the gate and found out that most of the people for the flight were already at the gate waiting for the plane to be cleared to board.

I get to Boston and make my way to the carousel and notice that bags from a San Francisco flight are making their way around. After a few minutes the carousel stops and the bags from the Seattle flight start coming out. My bag doesn't show up and the carousel eventually stops. I talked to the JetBlue employees handling missing baggage and filed the claim.

It's been two and a half days and after several phone calls with the Boston office and Central Baggage office, they still can't locate my bag. I had a few valuables in my bag but mostly clothing. The person that was the most helpful so far was someone from Central Baggage that told me that they take over after 5 days of the claim and the bag could show up there after and I gave them the description of the bag as well as its contents.

I kept being persistent about what the last known location of my bag was and they never give me anything absolute. All they know is that it was scanned to be put into the flight to Boston, which had no stops.

My question is how can they not know where the last place the bag was scanned was? Isn't that why they have the tags to begin with? Like that gives me no piece of mind whatsoever, knowing that my bag is somewhere that nobody knows for certain. I honestly don't understand the complications of this, it's a nonstop flight. If the bag never made it onto the plane shouldn't Seattle airport be contacted and given description of the bag to see if they still have it? If it is not there and it never got into Boston, shouldn't they either view security cameras or something of the like where the bag could have ended up onto another flight?

I am frustrated and have been so far making my come back home a nightmare as all my stuff was in that luggage.

What are the chances of the bag being lost for good at this point and Central Baggage either never receiving it or not identifying it that it's mine?

Thanks,
AR

Why did you ever put valuables in a checked bag?

All they know is that it was scanned to be put into the flight to Boston, which had no stops.

It sounds like they told you. The flight to Boston.

Isn't that why they have the tags to begin with?

The barcodes are frequently just for show. Have you ever seen a bag be gate checked for a passenger with a connection? Sometimes, they'll pull out a blank tag and just write down the segments on it. It doesn't lend itself to being scanned, now does it?

Checked bags get lost. it happens. They might find it, they might not.

I didn't think when I put valuables in the bag as it has not been an issue for me before. My bag has never gone missing.

Even though they said that the bag was scanned to be put in the plane doesn't mean much because I know that as well. I wanted to know if the bag actually entered the plane and if it did why didn't it arrive in boston?

I mean going forward I've learned my lesson to keep just clothes in my checked bags but I'm hoping they find it so I don't have to look for new clothes and all that right now.

Most bags do turn up, but there's a reason we say "there are two kinds of luggage: Carry on and Lost".

Check as little as possible (even if it's free).

Keep checking with the airline. Ask for compensation. See what happens.

That's not true at all. Barcodes are scanned over and over when processing a bag and gate check bag tags also have a barcode.

I got a call yesterday afternoon after 4 days they had found a bag like mine in Charlotte, NC and after confirming the contents with me it happened to be my bag with the tags missing. Which was the reason why they couldn't tell where it was.

I'm happy they found it and I've learned my lesson to keep valuables, electronics, etc on a carry on going forward.

(emphasis mine)

That is exactly why you should also put some kind of indentifying information *inside* your bag. That way if they popped the bag open there's a big piece of paper with your name and phone number. Would've gotten your bag in a day or two.

JetBlue doesn't use baggage "stickers", just baggage tags?

You get a sticker on your tag, and a long sticker that wraps around the handle on a bag serves as the "bag sticker" and tag which JB crewmembers place on the bag when you weigh it.
