Flying LAX-IST-HKG in Comfort Class - will I get lounge access in IST while crediting flight to M&S, or will I have to show my *G card and have to check that they do not change the FFP on my boarding passes?

I am switching to M&S and doing an MR to get to *G with M&S.

Also, is the CIP lounge before security and will I need to get a Turkish visa on landing if I want to visit the CIP lounge if it is outside security? Will have a 5 hour layover.

Thanks

You won't get lounge access flying Comfort Class. However, just show your M&S card for check-in and your *G card for lounge access. Usually, this should be no problem.

In Istanbul the lounge is inside the international airside/transit zone of the airport, but before security which is at each gate. You don't need a visa to access the lounge.

Whether you need a visa to leave the airport depends on your citizenship.

Careful with that. Back in 2010, prior to the introduction of new THY lounge, I was in a similar situation holding non-Gold M&S card and SK*G. During the check-in I showed M&S and BP had M&S number on it. When I entered TK lounge with SK*G card they changed the card to SK.

I already sat down in the lounge. 6th sense made me feel something's not right. Went to the thy.com online check-in and noticed the SK card in the system. Went back to the lounge dragon, politely asked to change card back to M&S, no issues. Flight credited just fine to M&S. Same happened on the return trip @ IST lounge.

Well, I guess just pay attention to what they are doing at the lounge entrance. If they start entering the information into the computer system, you'd better insist not to change the mileage earning program.

At the new CIP lounge in IST you need to scan the bar code on your BP in order for the "doors" to open to enter the lounge area. If a *A Gold card was not registered when the BP was printed, the bar code does not reflect that you are *A Gold and the doors will not open. The agents at the entrance of the lounge will not open the doors manually for you, so you can not get into the lounge area unless you receive a new BP reflecting you *A Gold status.

Hi - I am flying comfort class from Shanghai to Istanbul followed by business class to Amsterdam. Does anyone know if I have access to the TA lounge or equivalent in Shanghai Airport? Thanks!

AFAIK, no lounge access anywhere when flying comfort class. You'll have access in IST because your onward flight is in C, but that's it.

Flying YYZ-IST-ALA tomorrow, and going FRU-IST-YYZ with a stopover in IST on the way back. Do I get lounge access (don't mind paying a few bucks if I have to) in IST?

My *A status sucks (I'm a DL platinum), so no help from that quarter.

Also, are buyups to J available, and are they reasonably priced?

No lounge access for CC, unfortunately no pay access either. There are some third party lounges in IST you can try.

Buy ups are sometimes available. A quick search paid upgrade will help.
