You're staying at the FS/St Regis and you're inquiring about laundry prices outside? Somewhat of a disconnect perhaps?

I had a couple of very big bags of laundry that would cost $300+ to get done in the hotel vs $3 to get it done at a local place.

Even when you're staying in a Caroline Astor suite at the St Regis (yes, very nice), paying $300 for laundry in Bangkok just seems insane.

I'm staying at a less vaunted hotel nearby and would love a helpful answer. I reckon I'm just going to wander around in the heat, though.

Ask the hotel for help. I believe there is one in a supermkt a block away.

Yes - there is a laundry desk in the supermarket in the end of Soi Mahatlek Luang 3 (the first side street after the BTS station / St Regis as you walk away from Siam Paragon etc). From memory it is on the ground floor of the Millenia building.

You should be able to see it on Google Maps here (http://maps.google.com.au/maps/ms?msid=211081169448175203163.0004b6102fc08088ca2f 3&msa=0&ll=13.738656,100.542401&spn=0.002803,0.004501).

It's not cheap - they still charge per item like the hotels do, rather than per kg like the cheap places do. But the per item prices are about half the hotel rates.

I am 99% certain that this is the place I was just at 20 minutes ago. It is in Villa Market, under a sign reading "Wash Me". T-shirt washing costs 55 baht per piece, and they didn't have any prices posted for socks or underwear. I ought have asked for rates or whether they launder unmentionables but hate asking for help. I think that this area is too well-to-do to have many cheap laundry places. I haven't noticed any other drop-off places. If anyone knows of other options near the Chit Lom station, I would be hugely grateful, as I'll be around here for a while. Villa Market is pretty good on other fronts, though. The wine selection is good and fairly priced for Thailand, and I was able to find gluten-free crackers that larger supermarkets did not have.

Yep that would definitely be the one.

I too thought the Villa Market wine selection was very good - even better than the fancy booze store on the 7th floor of Central World.

I stay at the Grand Centrepoint - next to Four Seasons. Their laundry is extremely competitive and reasonable, next day service. You might walk over and ask if they'll do your laundry?

There is a by the pound laundry place in the building that the Courtyard Marriott is. Soi Mahadlekluang 1,rajdamri Rd, Bangkok. It is on the left side of the building as you face it. It is there primarily to serve the folks that live in the apartments there.

Getting laundry done in Bangkok is becoming a problem. Went to a place on Sukumvit Soi 5 across from where Foodland was recently and was quoted 600 baht for doing what I thought might cost 50 baht. They cut the price in half when I balked. I went elsewhere. @:-)

Went to a place on Soi 14(?) which also (of course) offered massages while you wait for laundry. They charged me 110 baht for the same stuff I was quoted 600.

I suspect a Thai would have paid 30 baht. :D

What's the name of the place on soi 14?

Wish I could tell you its name.

As soon as I learn to read Thai I'll get back to you.

But, what I have inferred is that the area around Sukumvit Sois 2-5 or so has a lot of places that have decided they can get London prices from tourists.

There is a place in Sukhumvit soi 8 before adelphi suite on right hand side, a lady does laundry by weight. I believe it is 40 or 50 bath per kg, and you will get laundry back in few hours. There is also a guy on main Sukhumvit road after soi 8 but you will get it back next day, wash and ironed and same thing 40 or 50 bath per kg. Dont go to any places which charge by piece, it is cheaper to buy clothing in Bangkok than wash it.

Coin-op machines (6.5 Kg - 12 Kg) in my neighborhood are 40 baht, the dryers are 10 baht/15 minutes, so a single load is ~ 80 baht. The fixed costs are ~ 40 baht, my guess (depreciation, water, electricity). In Thai neighborhoods machines are 20/30 baht, but typically no dryer while laundries sometimes charge by the piece, for larger items like bedding/towels, or by the kilo for smaller items.

Turning right on the soi on the north side of the Four Seasons, there is a per-piece drop-off service that is a bit cheaper than Wash Me a few hundred meters down right before the 7-11. I wish I'd found it earlier but now have a whole bunch of new Uniqlo socks and underwear.

How much does that place charge per item and do they have a 2hr service?

I had some luck with approaching the housekeeping/cleaning staff to do my laundry for me and bring them back the next day ironed and folded privately in BKK and MNL.

I am Chinese and can speak very Basic Thai and Tagalog. YMMV.

I didn't use them and only scanned the services list. Prices vary depending upon garment. I think that sport shirts were like 40-50 and underwear was 20-25, which is certainly much cheaper than fancier hotels. I doubt that 2-hour service is possible but did not ask.

You might walk over and ask if they'll do your laundry? No. Quality here is poor/inconsistent. They ruined several articles of our clothing when we lived here. Do not recommend.
