Midwest - Cabin (lakeside) rentals in Michigan?

Hey everyone, need some advice here. I have a small meeting for work that I am planning and we are looking to head up to Michigan this summer. Would love to do a very casual week where we rent cabins on or very near a lake and maybe even use the biggest one (or a central conference room) for the meeting itself.

There will be around 30 people in total, and I am only willing to double up on cabins if there is enough space, or even two bathrooms in each. We are so used to traveling in style, I don't want to shock the system and have everyone upset because they have to share a room.

The ability to rent a boat for a day is a plus, so wanting something near that type of activity base. Bonus if we could do BBQ off a grill somewhere one night or two versus having to drive and go out to a restaurant each day.

I know this is a needle in a haystack, but does anything come close that you have visited before?

I know this is a needle in a haystack, but does anything come close that you have visited before?to help cut down the haystack a bit as Michigan has quite a number of lakes.

Are you looking for any lake or Lake Michigan or Huron in particular?

Where is your business meeting & how far are you willing to drive to get to an ideal lake?

Honestly, any lake is fine. Doesn't necessarily have to one of the Great Lakes. We are coming/flying from all over the country, so we wouldn't be too restricted on location.

How far a drive from the airport(s) do you want your lake meeting place to be? If you're going on the Lake Huron side, you'd probably be flying into DTW & then driving up north. If you're going on the Lake Michigan side, you'd probably be flying into GRR & then driving up north, or flying into ORD and driving to SW Michigan.

Of course there are plenty of inland lakes as well, although they're mid-north lower Penisula.

Some areas to look at on Lake Michigan side are New Buffalo, Holland, Grand Haven/Spring Lake, Ludington, Traverse City, Petoskey. A bit inland but on inland lakes would be Cadillac, Reed Lake. Going north on the Lake Huron side there are a # of cabins in areas like Tawas City, and farther north.

If you want something unique, there are a couple of hotels with meeting rooms/convention section, in addition to hotel rooms, on Mackinac Island, which is considered one of the 'top 10 islands in the world' by Conde Nast Traveler. It's a small island inbetween the Upper & Lower Penisula that you take a ferry to (doesn't take long). No cars are allowed, just walking, biking & horse-drawn carriages.

I think you're going to have a problem with finding 15 large, 2-bathroom cabins. I know of a number of areas that have multiple cabins, and if you get the pricing right you might want to consider a small cabin per person.

You might want to consider lakefront condos.

Also, check out the "Pure Michigan" website www.michigan.org for more ideas/areas.

Cheers.

+1

Facilities like ones the OP has in in mind are now rare in Michigan.

About the only possibility would be Wilderness State Park, near Mackinaw City, it might better to stay at a resort type hotel .. and I wouldn't eliminate Mackinaw Island.

. and airfares into airports such as TVC are likely to be high this summer --- alternatives to consider include FNT, MBS, LAN and GRR and if you have to use a big city airport I'd use DTW instead of ORD because of traffic considerations.
