Hilton HHonors - What's your pre-6/1/03 and post-6/1/03 HH balance?

With the changes in redemption levels, how have things changes for you? Did you redeem a bunch or are you still collecting? As for me...

May 2003 = 100,617 HH points
June 2003 = 617 points

GLON cert issued

End of May -- 412000
Start of June -- as close to 0 as I can get. I've already ordered 265000 points worth of certificates!

[Edited to add...]

I now have a total of 15 certificates (for three planned trips) and only 487 points left!

Some may think it's crazy to drain my account, but we don't get any interest on points and there's no penalty for redepositing the awards. I see no reason *not* to try and get certificates for whatever think I may need.

It's not worth it to me to redeem 6 nights to save 50/75K later because there's a good chance I won't use the cert within a year. And, my trips usually have me bouncing around. I rarely stay in the same hotel for more than a few nights.

Just curious, you just found that out because you looked into your account summary? So that can actually happen after you have already been mailed the certificate? You didn't even receive an e-mail notification? Sounds odd...

I have the email confirmation but I have not received the physical certificate. (Does anyone know how they are delivered? Postal, UPS, FedEx?). The HHonors customer service rep said that she would issue a new certificate by email this time and gave me a new confirmation number. It's been 15 minutes and I have yet to receive the email with the attached certificate. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif

That e-mail most likely won't show up until tomorrow. But you can check whether the award cert has been issued and even get its number (that's what is important anyway).

Log into your HH account online, click on "Activity", then on "Reward Redemption History". You'll see your requested reward name and code, post date, amount of points deducted and the certificate number. This information should appear instantly, even while you are still on the phone with HH CSR, and is available for your viewing for 12 months.

I need a free-bee in BKK for one (1) night at the Conrad and in all luck they drop down from the 3rd level (old style) to a Level 2. Therefore I save 5000 points. HA! Amazing!

Also, the Hilton NRT drops to 10,000 points. Will do that later in the year (a Point stretcher there is 6000...best value I could find).

I agree with everyone. I don't blame you for making the accounts low. My Sheraton account is 650, but after July 31st, it should be about 52,000 due to the Asia 50K 5 stay promo. I plan to do one (or two) of those 1:1 w/ 5000 mile bonus Airline Mile transfers.

Or they decided not to join the "leeming like panic" to claim awards the really do not need in this time frame or might have trouble claiming when they do.
At this rate the HWV might need to allocate all rooms from Jan to June 2004 for awards only.

How about a 4-day Park Hopper Pass to DisneyWorld for 65,000 points? You can use just the 4 free days or take the ticket to Guest Services at WDW and upgrade for $ to a 5, 6, or 7 day PHP, or even to an Annual Pass.

I and my friends pulled about 1.6 and this thread so far is another 6.6 so about 8 million. Now the question remains will we use them or will next May will there me another massive redeposit. While pulling awards today I noticed that in thirty minutes the serial numbers went up 207 so that's four hundred an hour. Sad thing is you know people will forget about them or loose them. American told me the spoilage on flight vouchers for over booking is huge. Blos me away how people loose or don't use a three hundred dollar travel voucher

But there's no penalty for withdrawl or redeposit. As I said earlier in this thread, I ordered certificates for hotels I will probably be traveling to, and for a few tentative trips. There's no reason not to.

In particular we're planning on going back to Sweden in the next year and many of the Scandics are going from Opportunity to level 2, 3, or 4. This represents a HUGE increase in the number of points required for a stay. I felt the only prudent thing to do was to drain my account.

What's the down side? I don't see one.

Any travel that involves 5 or 6 nights during the next 12 months is already in the works so there is little chance that I will need them. I don't feel like wasting my time getting the sert and then send it back on the long shot I might come up with a trip.
I'm not saying others shouldn't. The question was what are you doing. That's what I'm doing. NOTHING

I already have have 42 stays and 69 nights in 2003. When I go on vacation I stay at home on the Jersey Shore.

Also, I was curious if by increasing the number of HH points required for an award certificate was a ploy to decrease the number of points outstanding on Hilton's system - i.e. reduce an outstanding liability without suspending or eliminating the program.

I plan to use my points and stay at Hilton properties when I am evicted from my home for failure to pay the high level of property tax!!

Like just about everyone else, I virtually liquidated my HHonors account, redeeming both a GLON and GLONP award, though I have no bookings as yet.

Pre-redemption balance: 260,000 pts
Post-redemption balance: 24,000 pts

Took advantage of converting 20K Gold coupon on initial 150K redemption, gave enough points to do the 100K redemption when I was dropped down to Silver and use the 10K Silver coupon. And four stays since March helped bring my balance up moderately, as well as qualify for the Fast Track to Gold. [Have kept double-dip option rather than bonus HH points.]

Major issue will be finding acceptable properties to use the two 6-nights by early next year. So many of us have cashed out, just wonder how many of their millions of members did the same thing, or even realized the significance of the change redemption level?
