Can you match Acor Platinum to Marriott, Hyatt or Club Carlson hotel status?

SouthOxon
Jan 5, 12, 8:25 am
There is one small issue to overcome; this form does not allow you to register using an email address that attaches to an existing A-Club membership. The work-around is simply; complete the registration with a another email address (or any text string that contains the <@> symbol) then once you get to the page that confirms your new membership number navigate to the page with your personal information and change your email address to the one you want.

Asking other brands to match normally requires you to prove that you reached "Platinum" by staying there and they normally ask you to send the copy of your statement that indicates that.

I am Platinum in PC and when tried to get myself matched with Hilton, that's what I was asked.

Just to confirm - is there any mention of the Platinum status option during the application process? Clicking on the link takes me to the application, but I can't see any field for a promo code, nor any mention that I'll be awarded Platinum status once it's complete.

Should I just proceed and Platinum will be awarded once I hit 'Confirm'?

Exactly. It is written in the Terms & COnditions on the webpage of the promotion.

Platinum status membership is valid for the duration of one year after enrolment or upgrade. After this time, the cardholder status will change to the appropriate A|Club membership tier corresponding to the activity of the last 12 months.

There is no promo code to enter because the promo code is already inserted in the weblink (HSBCPREMPLA11).

Immediately after signup using the stated link I made an inquiry to merge accounts with my previous one.

Maybe they turned it off. Did you entered new mail or already registered in A-CLub ?

yorkboy24
Jan 11, 12, 12:37 am
It seemed to work for me. I just e-mailed them to ask if I could merge 2 accounts. Seems like they will do it but it will take 1 month to get the card! At least they will send a temporary letter when the merger takes place. They did say, however, that due to their system, I would get an e-mail saying I had been upgraded to Gold (I'm Gold now) when it happens. She told me to ignore that e-mail as the card will reflect the Platinum status when I receive it. Despite the system issues, at least she explained things.

I really don't understand why Accor keeps offering free platinum status. I've probably stayed at Accor for nearly 50 nights in the last year. It doesn't make me feel very comfortable to see cards being given away. They might be thinking that recipients will stay with Accor after the 12 months. Well, they also need to consider how current loyal customers feel and that such actions may result in a loss of those customers in the long run.

Oh and I forgot to mention that the e-mail trick didn't work. By all mean's register using a different e-mail but when I tried to edit it in my profile, it recognised the other one so I couldn't update it. It'll have to be done after the 2 accounts have been merged.

They don't offer free Platinum to everyone but only as deals with certain credit or FF cards (as most hotel programmes do). However Accor's systems are so ropey that they don't check eligibility. The fact that they are widely available on the internet is indeed a slap in the face to those who spend their way to Platinum.

Starflyergold - I agree that it is a slap in the face of loyal customers who spend their way to Gold and Platinum. I've already told them that if there continues to be a move in this direction, I'll be quitting the programme and taking my business to another hotel group. Their marketing strategy needs to be more balanced to, on one hand, reward loyal customers for their commitment to Accor and on the other, develop appropriate strategies to increase their customer base. Giving too many freebies tips the balance the other way and will alienate its core clientele.

Because I received plat,

I made stays in accor hotels that I would otherwise not.

So imo, it works for Accor.

I understand those who actually spent up should receive more.

I can to a degree understand the current gold promotion, but the top tier should never be free in a loyalty programme.

Only after your first stay.

Actually my online status changed to Platinum instantly, and I received a platinum card in the post about 2 weeks later. I have stayed at accor a couple of times before thought if that's what you mean... so it wasnt a new account with 0 points, but I haven't made a stay for a long time.

I do however have one end of the month, when I phoned to book hotel told me I should get an upgrade when I show the card at check in... we'll see.

Oh, and for the record even as someone who is taking advantage of the offer - I agree it's unfair on people who have earnt status to just hand it out.

And thatīs exactly the reason why they give away the status to thousands of people.

Letīs be honest, Accorīs loyalty program is one of the most useless hotel programs offering hardly any value at all to its members. Their CR more often than not is useless and making the effort to send them a message, regrettably, is a waste of time way too often.

I think that giving away the Plat status so easily just shows that ACCOR donīt value their own program and its members. So the only thing they want to achieve is to attract new platinum members who then spend money with them, money that would otherwise have gone to a different hotel group.

IMHO.....

Well, consider they are not giving much benefit to platinum compare to other hotel's program top tier would get breakfast, guranteed upgrade and lounge access, so they are not really losing much.

The ones that count (Hilton etc.) don't match Accor for the very reason that it's NOT a 'real' loyalty program at the end of the day.

Which ones will status match to Accor?

Haven't really tried many as don't have many stays coming up until beyond 3 months (and think some may put me on a 3 months challenge) but have go Best Western to give me Diamond Elite with it which may then use for other programs.

It is rumoured this can be used to upgrade to PC Plat fairly easily and it appears somewhat unpredictable results with others.

Haven't tried Hilton as I got Hilton Gold via other means.

I agree with you. Accor plat is really only great if you are planning to stay at a Sofitel (the upgrade is quite nice) or during 3x or 4x point promotion to just transfer to an airline for miles. Since these free plat promotions are so frequent, it doesn't hurt to have elite status due to its free value.

Checked in to Novotel in Athens yesterday, online booking - got on of the best rooms (small though; that is normal for the price paid) with a view and huge balcony.

The room was prepared in advance, so when I so the room number on a A4 page I asked if I can get a view etc, the answer was, everything is already sorted out.

So, it's not only good for Sofitel like hotels^

Whilst the Accor board is not my normal FT hang-out, I wanted to give a heads up that I was with a friend over the weekend who works at Citi in the cards team. They are apparently well aware of the abuse of this promo (and similar ones) and they will be working with Accor to audit all applications at some point.

He also told me that Citi is planning to have 'a word' with Boarding Area over its bloggers repeating this offer, since Citi is a major funder of Boarding Area via the credit card ads embedded on its site.

recently stayed at Ibis in Frankfurt as a platinum member. Have to say, staff at reception had no idea about the priviliges for A-club members. I was turn down with late check out and room upgrate. Was asked to pay half-day to have check out at 15.00. Thought they had no available rooms, but in the evening when I came to take my laggage from storage, I intentionally asked if they had availabilities. "Plenty!" they said.
Of course, no any "dedicated customer service" as promised for platinum, not even close. In fact, when you do check-in they simply don't see at the system if you have any A-club level. Or they don't want to see.
The moral of my experience: if you want to receive a benefit as a A-club member, take a booklet with written A-club benefit rules in it and show it to the reception/managers. Staff have no idea what you as a A-club member are entitled to. IMHO, A-club loyalty program is a fake.

Yes the programme is a fake but since you can get it just like that you shouldn't be expecting much either.

In A-club's T&C there is no obligation for Ibis to grant any elite any upgrade. Putting 2 single beds together is a very common for hotels in Europe (not Marriott or other American chain hotels).

The moral of your experience is...maybe try and be less demanding the next time you stay at a budget property.

I have had late checkout at an Ibis and they usually give me a quiet room at the end of a corridor. If you want room upgrades then try going upmarket a bit.

Hear hear.... although quite often you will still get upgraded at Novotels and Mercure hotels if you request it politely beforehand and are really nice on check in.

I personally think the program is good for most of the Luxury and Upscale property brands - IF you have the initiative to send an email in advance requesting the upgrade (or better, asking what upgrades are available before booking a room type). Only once was I not upgraded (Hotel Vie), because the next level up was a duplex suite worth many hundred more.

I did this on both my husband's account and mine a few months ago, little realizing that it would save our butts a couple weeks ago in Auckland. We were booked at the Mercure Windsor (chosen because it had a spa pool) and just returned from a day trip to Tiritiri Matangi when we found the hotel completely without power and people being moved to other Accor properties around Auckland. Most were being moved to either the All-Seasons (glorified backpackers) or Novotel by the airport (inconvenient for people wanting access to the city). Those staying more than one night had to come back the next day once the Mercure Windsor was repaired-huge inconvenience! We were being sent to the other Mercure on Customs Street (supposedly sold out) to be sorted. In my best DYKWIA impersonation, I waved the Platinum A-Club cards and asked if they really want to be inconveniencing their top level members like this? The lady went to the back office, presumably to speak to her manager and came back in a few minutes. Lo and behold, a room magically opened up at the Mercure and we were given a nice room with a view of the harbour. We still had to retrieve our bags from the other hotel walking up 5 flights of stairs but at least we got a good room and stayed downtown!

But when I asked them to merge this account to my old "classic" account, they replied that this promotion is only valid for people living in Ukraine. So my two accounts were not merged. On the other hand, they did not remove my new platinum account either. I am confused if I should use it or not.

Using the above link, I got a platinum account yesterday and then sent an e-mail asking to merge my both accounts. Even though both accounts are still active now, my old silver account has now been elevated to platinum. Yay!

I also managed to get a platinum account yesterday using a link from another site. Please could I ask for the address to which you sent your e-mail when asking for your accounts to be merged.

I used the form available on the site once you access your profile, you select "contact us" and in the next dropdown menu you choose the option to combine your cards. Then you just add your two numbers to the form and a 1 or 2 days later you should have a single account. Or, as in my case, two platinum accounts, one with and one without points...

I got this too when trying to convert my existing gold to the platinum. Got a rather terse email saying it was a Mastercard offer for Ukrainians and that my Platinum had been locked out.

I wouldn't risk too many points on the platinum if I were you. Could be worth a one night Ibis punt, mind!

Change your existing account to another email address then you will be able to change your 'new' account to your preferred email address.
Please note this is NOT merging accounts.
It is simply 'swapping' email address.

Yes, but Le-Club service center required that both account must have same e-mail address.

I think they're desperate for friends/attention - the instructions are:

1. Sign up for the blog email updates and just reply to the welcome email that you would like to get the Accor Platinum sign up offer.

2. Follow us on Twitter and send me a direct message requesting the sign up link.

3. Like us on Facebook and send me a message for the link.

Actually that's me. You don't have to do all of them just one is enough and you can unlike/unfollow/unsubcribe immediately if you so wish. I have added the word OR between the lines that should have been there in the first place.

Last time when I had the straight link up (last week) the offer was withdrawn in few hours. I just wanted to preserve the offer for few days this time around.

You can send me a PM here as well for the link.

Awesome.

Stupid question alert, but does anyone know if it's possible to status match this to a (no offence), "real" hotel program? I've read somewhere Best Western does Accor matches, is it possible to then match BW status to another program? Preferably SPG but beggars can't be choosers.

Despite my facetious comment about the Accor and Carlson programmes they are both years ahead in quality compared to Best Western. I didn't even know they had a loyalty programme. Given that in my experience the average age of Best Western guests is about 78 most would be lucky to live long enough to reach the top tier.

You can use Accor status to also match to Kimpton Inner Circle (almost any hotel status Kimpton will match really). Aside from not being a points program for miles, stay benefits in their elite program are actually quite nice.

Otherwise, it's still a pretty small list for the number of properties they have.

Club Carlson is far from being perfect but it is certainly not worthless and it is much better than Best Western.

Accor is another story. Their program is utterly inexistent

Club Carlson has got a touch better since the Goldpointsplus days but still needs to recognise its elites a little more. All these points promotions don't do much for me I'm afraid but at least they help to promote the programme.
Le Club still lags behind them all.

Ah that's too bad... one of my earliest travel memories as a little kid was staying at the Sofitel Broadbeach (then Grand Mercure) and being totally fascinated with the building's triangular shape. :D

The benefits sound decent on paper (except for redemptions, but I'd probably use them for airline miles anyway)- so are there issues with elite benefits being honoured etc, considering they are literally giving away top tier status like candy?

When I get to the page requesting me to enter my email I get the following text:

YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS Email *Confirm your e-mail address *
Do you already have an account please enter your details (email address, password).

Now there is nowhere to enter email address/password if you already have an account and if i enter my email address to open a new account it tells me to enter a new email address as the one entered is already registered.

I understand that if you use a totally different email address you get a new account and ask them to merge it with your old account but what is the point of the text quoted Do you already have an account please enter your details (email address, password). when it doesn't seem that it is possible to do that?

It would seem then that you must not have had 10 qualifying stays which would (should) have demoted you to Silver.

I suspect the free Platinum card is targeted at those who have higher status in other loyalty programmes and is offered as a temptation to switch their allegiance.

There is nothing wrong with the Accor properties, sadly, the Le Club Accor programme does have well documented issues that hardly offers incentives to switch.

Hopefully not. Why should someone who never/only somtimes stay in a Sofitel/Accor should get a Platinum-Status!?

Because some "only sometimes""stayers become good customers???

I increased my usual stays at Pullman Khon Kaen to 4x2 nights/year because it's nearby my residence and I enjoy/need regular luxury breaks.

I also stay at least 30 nights/year in hotels during my travelings as a retired business traveler (too much itching, can't stay more than 30 days at home)

Accidentally discovered A club early 2012, got silver and a found a way to get platinum. Increased my 2012 stays towards Accor properties.

2013 sofar have booked 3 nights stay at Pullman Khon Kaen January, 3 nights at Pullman King Power Bangkok February, will continue towards Chumpon to visit friends and stay at Novotel there, on the way back stay a few nights at Novotel Hua Hin or Cha Am.
This will total 10+ nights for Januari/Februari 2013.
Will increase stays at PM KK to 4x3 nights/year.

Further plans will include Sofitel Pokheetra Krabi and Mercure Golf Kikuoka in Luxemburg for April. Have also Sofitel Siem Reap (Angkor Wat) on my list.

Plan to buy 50+ shares in Accor to remain platinum, unlikely I will stay 60+ night at Accor properties, I don't travel THAT much, but 30+ for gold? Easily.
