My parents are celebrating their 40 anniversary with a recommitment ceremony and want to take the entire family.

I am in charge of finding the best rates. We would like to go to cancun or playa del Carmen.

Which online site usually has the best deals? It will be about 22 of us.

I find them to be similar, at least between Orbitz,Travelocity, and Expedia.

Since they're all online, can't you just check for your particular situation?

Best is always to call the Hotel Directly. All these American Websites (Expedia, Orbitz, Travelocity) are taking a 25% commission from the Hotels (the highest commission out of all OTAS on the Market).

If you really need to book online, your best bet is Booking.com, all you need to do is leave your CC as a guarantee. The OTAs you mentioned will make you prepay at the time of reservation (a pretty stupid thing to do if you ask my opinion).

What works for me is to Call the Hotel, ask to speak to the Reservations Manager and tell him (or her) that you found a price of 100 on Expedia (bookable), that you know if you book the room the Hotel will only get 75. Offer 85 or 90 and book Direct.

If it was that easy there would only be one site and all the others would be out of business.

For 22 people, you may want to negoitate directly with the hotels involved (assuming you are asking about hotels). They may cut some deals for ten or 12 rooms
