Is it easy to get to this lounge? Last time I was at FRA we found a lounge way over where they were doing some remodeling work. It cost 30 Euros and for only 3 hours. To me that is a rip off. The place was almost empty. I will arrive on CO and depart on SAA. 9 hrs between flights.

You're flying CO and SA - both *A carriers - and you're asking about the AA lounge?
What class of service are you flying (arriving and departing)?
Also, if you searched "FRA layover" there are multiple threads, including this one http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/germany/1204417-what-do-fra-six-hours.html about what to do with your long layover.

AA does not have an Admiral's Club at the Frankfurt Airport.

I am in C the rear somewhere. i am using all my miles for this trip. Yes I saw on the AA lounge page that it is gone. Oh well such is life. I pay for my own flights when I travel.

I am a retired school teacher and 70 years old.

The former Admirals Club is now the LUXXLOUNGE - a Priority Pass Contract Lounge, which is landside. I am not sure, if they sell day passes.

If you are traveling on Star Alliance Airlines out of Terminal 1 you are unfortunatly out of luck if it comes to any Priority Pass or paid lounges airside.

Well I guess I am stuck with nothing to do except to sit around and watch the people go by. I don't mind going land side if could buy a day in the lounge. Thought about going through LHR but same problem. Went through Madrid several years ago and found a Dinners club that was great. cost was 25Euros for as long as you wanted to stay. To bad we poor folks that buy our own tickets get dumped on.

Now now, millions of passengers that buy their own tickets pass thru FRA and manage to survive...

The LUXXLOUNGE is a contract lounge that you can enter against payment:

Lounge Information
Airport: frankfurt - Main, Terminal 1
Lounge: luxxlounge

Location: Landside - from Departure Level take escalator opp. Check-in counter No.680 up one level; the Lge is on the right hand side of the Gallery Level, in Departure Hall B/C. If coming from Sheraton Hotel, proceed across bridge to Lge. Passengers must ring bell at Lge door (Room 201.3434) for access.

Opening Hours: 06:00 - 20:00 daily.

Conditions: Non-smoking.

Additional Information: Wi-Fi access, telephone calls, fax and conference facilities are all subject to payment.

Lounge Facilities: Air Conditioning Alcohol Available Conference Facilities Available Fax Internet/Dataport Newspapers/Magazines Available Refreshments Available Showers Available Telephone WiFi Available

Besides that I would recommend storing any handluggage you may have in the checkin area (costs about 4€) and explore the sheraton, hilton and hilton garden inn lobbies attached to the airport by a bridge for refreshment, then head ove to the viewing galleries to see planes land and takeoff along with some fresh air to help the jet lage stay away. @:-) FRA is not the prettiest airport, but it certainly has a few things you can do. More about that on their website: http://www.frankfurt-airport.com/content/frankfurt_airport/en/shop_enjoy0.html

Sorry, but the AC closed in March, and they now share the JAL lounge (but you have to be flying out on AA to use it). Since you have a long layover, I would actually hop on the S-Bahn to Mainz rather than Frankfurt. A walkable city for the most part with some really good food, shopping, and other things to do. In fact, Wiesbaden would be a better choice than Frankfurt IMO.

With that much time, why don't you take the S-Bahn over to Mainz, walk around a bit (plenty of cafes, shops, and you could even watch the barge traffic on the river), and make some good use of that block of time. The train stops right at the airport. It's about a 10 min walk from the central train station there into the city center. My Mainz photos are HERE (http://tom911.smugmug.com/Travel-Europe/Germany/2009-Mainz-Germany/7898689_CFJtpF#512214026_46RKV). I was back again last month but didn't take many photos.

SBahn to Mainz (from the FRA Ferhnbahnhof, not the Regionalbahnhof, but both are adjacent,) is cheap and takes 36-40 minutes, IC is €16.40 walkup return frm the automatic Fahrkarten machines, is generally much more comfortable and takes 19-20 minutes. Honestly, I spend the extra Euros and avoid twenty boring minutes of "bummelzug" stopping at every tiny stop. Plenty to do in Mainz - check out the Mainz, where to stay, what to do, see on a short stay? thread for some suggestions - and they offer walking tours as well.

According to their website (http://www.luxxlounge.de) they do sell day-passes at EUR 30. It says:

Visit the LuxxLounge and pay just €30 upon entering the lounge.
Day passes are valid for the same day of purchase throughout our opening hours and can be purchased by cash or credit cards.

That leads me to believe that it's a proper day pass, not 3 hours as the original post suggested.

Thanks mjet_cz,
That is what I also found so will just cool my heels there and get a little sleep in a chair. Being an old man and by my self don't want to go running around to much. If it was some place where I had been many times before would be no problem.

;) :D
