Two Stays so far.
Hotel Opened 2nd December 2011: The Mailbox/Cube Birmingham.
Stay 1: King Executive room - Mid Week
Brand New Hotel, key card issue on Arrival, as hotel only covers 23 and 24th floors and reception is on the 7th it was a journey back down. Room very bright indigo colours, rainfall shower, nice large open area at side of room.
Every room in this hotel as at least a single glass wall, top to bottom, so if you don’t like heights make sure the curtains are closed.
The mini bar is stocked and included in the price of the room. 2 x bottles Carlsberg, 1 can diet coke, 1 can lemonade, 1 still, 1 sparkling water, 1 kit kat, 1 ready salted crisps - All free in every room.
Bed comfortable but Queen Size, so the King executive is a little misleading in the room title. Double wardrobe and tea/coffee making facilities. New integrated check in/out and message TV system on 37inch Flat Screen TV.
Stay 2 : Executive Suite - Saturday evening (new years Eve)
late booking and received free upgrade and bottle of champagne in the suite. Located on the 24th floor this room as 2 out of the 3 walls total glass from floor to ceiling. It as a balcony, however closed at present by Birmingham City Council as does not have a two phase opening lock (Stop suicide jumpers???). Free Mini Bar. His/Her Sink in bathroom. rainfall shower (no bath). Lounge area with two seats and table, full work desk. Bed located back against the only solid internal wall so if you lay on the bed looking forward all you can see is the view and glass walls. Adequate plugs and sockets, including hair dryer/straightener plug next to large mirror. Brand New so no signs of wear and tear. Bathroom stays with the full glass wall; however this is obviously frosted glass panels.
Access to the bar restaurant is on the 25th Floor. Marco Pierre white restaurant is the main feature of the Cube and linked with the hotel. On both occasions I was not able to get a table in the restaurant, however they have the indigo lounge next to the bar and hotel guest have a menu, made by the same chef's served in the lounge. Island style bar with complete panoramic view of Birmingham city.
Unique they have an outside terrace on the 25th Floor that is Smoking friendly, so you do not have to go down 25 floors for a smoke. Stunning Views. Also locate don the 25th Floor is the champagne bar, currently still being made public safe, however we were shown around on new years eve as the place had been set-up for a private function and it looked wonderful.
Access to the Health Club and SPa on the 4th Floor is also included; this was not open at the time of stay, being finished.
Car Parking is via a Car Cube/Automated garage system, well worth parking if you have never used one before, just drive the car into a garage, answer a few automated questions and away it goes, put your box number in when you retrieve the car, it arrives back, turned around and away you drive.
Can't praise this hotel and stay enough. Just booked three more stays over the next two months.
This hotel with only 52 rooms will once it as established itself suddenly become difficult to get into I would imagine.
