Hi everyone,

I'm new to the board and so far I'm really enjoying following the discussions. :) I hope I'm posting this in the right spot... I was just wondering if anyone could share their experiences travelling with a baby or a toddler on KLM?

I'll be travelling by myself to Europe with my then 14mth old in a couple of months and I just wanted to know how others found this airline.

Cheers! :)

Welcome to FT!

I have no experience with KLM and children. But, check and make sure your flight is actually on KLM and not a codeshare.

Well, it has been a few years since mine was a toddler, but our experience with KLM when he was that age was the FA's TATL were nasty, standing in the aisle next to my seat [2-3-2 config] and complaining about having children on the plane. My son was asleep in his purchased seat at the time, and hadn't spoken more than 10 words since we'd boarded before falling asleep. These FA's were in the above 40 age group.

Intra Europe flights we had much younger and more pleasant crews, no complaints about them at all.

Last KLM flight (2 months ago) I would say the TATL crews are just not happy in their work, and show it to the pax.

uhoh... that's not encouraging so far. lol. My connecting flight is actually Westjet operated, but the TATL is KLM.

I fly regularly on Delta and KLM with children and haven't had any of the issues CDTraveler describes. KLM staff have been helpful and pleasant, particularly when I've been traveling alone with a baby/toddler/preschooler. I can always count on KLM to handle seating issues graciously. They usually have milk available on the flight, assist with hand luggage when needed, and smile a lot.

The airport in Amsterdam is great while traveling with kids--there's a fair amount of interesting places, comfortable and private feeding areas for infants, a newly redesigned Children's Forest play area.

In general KLM is quite good with kids - with proper policies in place re: seating and on board/ground services. The Dutch in general are also quite easy around kids (i.e. not easily agitated). I'd stay away from US carriers.

Thanks, guys! :) I'm super excited. We're going to Norway to see my sister who I haven't seen in 4 years! This will be her first time seeing her nephew. Anyway, we've still got 3 long months to go before our flight, but here's hoping it goes smoothly. :)
