Mike! Thanks! I'll be counting on you as it is likely I won't have a chance to use my TEEN award.

Do these have to be returned before they expire to get back your points, or can they be returned after they expire?

Phew I do hope SOMEONE remembers to start a thread next May on this! I bet FT'ers alone have redeemed THOUSANDS of GLON/TEEN/ALON awards - all expiring in May 2004.

how do you return an emailed AOLN award?

You call, provide the cert's number, and ask to have it redeposited back into your account.

I'm still wondering, do these have to be returned before they expire to get back your points, or can they be returned after they expire?

Okay, it's time to bump this up unless someone would like to start a new thread. Remember to get any certs that will be unused turned in before expiring.

Question: Do we just need to book before expiration date or does the stay need to happen before then? Thanks!

Warning: Pure speculation/informed guessing follows....

Booking is (or was) independent of issuing the certificate. My money's on the certificate being worthless if not used or redeposited before the expiration date.

For that matter, you won't be able to book at the old category level after the end of May.

And unless I'm mistaken, the expiration date is one year after issuance, not necessarily the end of May.

Expiration date is indeed one year after issuance.

Thanks for the reminder. ^

I noticed on a cert that Im using next week that the res said if you cancel the 240,000 pts will go back into your acct. Its was an old GLONP, well I did that but it didnt work. It would have been SWEET if it worked. I guess thats for the e-certs that they are using now.
If you still have a res B4 the end of May log-on and go to your traveler planner section and click onto the res# and you'll see what Im talking about, although its an old cert they key in as if its a new one,so a GLONP = 6x40000=240,000 and it didnt show up as 150,000. AN ALON will show either as 175,000 (as mine does) or 240,000 as a friends does.
BUT YOU WILL NOT get the pt amount that the res shows. So dont cancel it unless you really arent going, then CALL up and tell 'em you want to return the cert, otherwise it will be voided out and you just might lose all the pts.

What address is used to return the certs? Also, anything special to do such as return receipt mail?

You really do not need to give the #s as long as you arent going to use any of them. They are still listed on your reward redemption at Honors. I called and told 'em I wanted everything to go back except for the one Im using this coming week. And in a few minutes she returned them all and told me to throw away the certs in hand as they were VOIDED out.

All I did was sending an email to flyertalk at hilton.com and they took care of it. 100.000 more points on my account. Where to spend them?

I just called and canceled two GLON's, kept the GLONP for Paris Arc de Triomphe (opening today). Very easy process and was given a tracking number for the transaction as well. Nice.

Just called to return my two 100k certificates. One of them they said was used in July in Rhode Island. I've never been to Rhode Island! Waiting to hear from the disputes dept...

Just used the GLONP that I had at the Jalousie Hilton on St. Lucia ... but had to turn in the TEEN and the ALON certs that I had (sigh!!!). [And it was VERY simple to turn them in: just took a phone call.]

Even in the space of one year, the better half and I just could only find one week where both of us could go to the same place at the same time!

I called yesterday and turned in a big pile of extra certificates. Then, an hour later, I discovered that I need to be somewhere over the weekend and one certificate I was saving would have been perfect. Oh well!

I cashed mine in and for some strange reason one had expired in mid-May (despite the fact that they were all supposed to be through 1 JUN. Anyway, they are investigating and I should get the points in "4-5 business days".

I cashed three award certificates in this morning. I kept hoping I would find a way to use them before the year was up. What a bummer. :(

There were some old GLONs that were issued after 5/31/03- can't remember why, but I had a 6/4 one, too.

I forgot to call over the weekend to redeposit my ALON :( .

When I called today (June 1), the rep told me that the system showed it as already expired and he volunteered that the expiration date was . . . June 1! Hmmm - maybe he's based in an area where it's already June 2?

Since, to me at least, a June 1 expiry means that the cert should be valid until tomorrow (at 12:01 AM, but who knows which time zone) I asked him to redeposit it. Around and around we went - "It's expired", "But it's still June first!" - until he got a supervisor who said she would get it redeposited; guess I'll know for sure in a week.

Bump -- Hoping not to hear about anyone who blew it and lost 100k points or more.

Thanks for the heads up Dave, (and others) but I am on that dreaded list of forgeteeees.

Joh and I were driving around the remote outback in the Northern Territory, and only barely glanced at FT, and clean forgot about a 100,000 GLON. :(

Hope I can find a sympathetic supervisor ASAP. (All hints appreciated - ozstamps@ozemail.com !) Only found this thread when I went back a week or so into old posts to see if others got caught like me.
