Will be staying in Kona for a week at the end of the month. Any suggestions for places to hear live Hawaiian music? Couldn't find much on the web. Any bars or restaurants that usually have music (worth hearing?) Or hotels? Have gotten to know the scene on some of the other islands, but have not been to the BI in quite a while.

If you're a church-goer, some of the Hawai`ian ethnic churches will often have lovely music at worship services.

If you are in the Kohala area the Mauna Lani usually has some musicians in the lower lobby at night. Can't recall their name name but they have been performing there for a long time and are great.

Hey, I can become a church goer for lovely Hawaiian music :D. Mahalo (and to 7E7 as well). We are going to be about 7 miles south of Kona, so suggestions for Kona and south appreciated.

Mahalo and now that I have tracked down some of this, here is a very good web resource: http://www.konaweb.com/musicians/events.shtml

Check concerts on www.mele.com There are a couple good ones coming up on the BI.

The Waikoloa Kings' Shops usually has John Keawe & his awesome guitar playing once a week for an hour. And it's free. Across the street at the Queens Marketplace also have free hula shows twice a week, or so. See http://www.kingsshops.com/index.php/calendar and http://www.waikoloabeachresort.com/index.php/big-island-shopping/Queens-Marketplace/

Different types of music-check their calendar and description of music. Saw John Keawe play the slack key guitar and his lovely wife dance the hula in November.
