So ALON at 175,000 is what kind of a deal?
The clock is rapidly ticking towards making ALON about the best deal at 100,000 to what kind of a deal at 175,000? Those who have used this at 100,000 will they use it again at 175,000 or try something else? What is the best deal out there for most people now?
I am being presumptuous enough to think that most people thought the ALON was the best deal out there from Hilton. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I don't think I'd spend 175k for an ALON. This is JMHO - I just finished an HHV ALON two days ago and I did an HWV ALON in Summer 02. I enjoyed both stays and felt they were good value for 100k.
But for 175k, I'd probably go for a GLONP in an expensive city with a nice Hilton property. I might go back for another HWV ALON if I had kids that would truly enjoy that kind of hotel more than my wife and I would by ourselves. Huge pools, waterslides, dolphins, mini-golf, the lagoon, etc. Paradise for kids...
HHV would definitely NOT be worth 175k, IMHO.

I use HHonors awards if the number of points required (valued at $.0055 each) is less costly than paying for the room. An ALON at 175,000 points is thus "worth" about $963. The lowest rates I see at HWV are about $200/night ($1200 for 6 nights) so even at 175K points, the ALON is a deal. Not anywhere near the deal it is at 100K, but still good.

My math as well, agreed.
On a personal note seeing as I won't be "renewing" my status, I'll go priceline from now on for less than $200 per night, points be darned.

I've always valued the HWV ALON as about a $1000 award. I assume the room value as $140-150/nt., plus tax. (Common winning bids at HWV or Hapuna Prince for a weeklong stay.) Total cost for just the winning bid is somewhere around $900. I roughly value the extra status perks at $100 because we used the lounge frequently during the stay.
Point is...it's still worth $1000 whether you fork over 175k or 100k. Still an okay deal at 175k, but if I ever have that many points again (which is questionable because I spent all of mine on ALONs!) I'll probably look for a GLONP.
HHV doesn't give you lounge access (only breakfast), and a 4-star room can be had on Waikiki for well under $100/nt. I like HHV a bit better than some of the Priceline selections, but I'd still have a hard time valuing an HHV ALON at more than $650 unless I got one of those big corner Rainbow rooms that some FTers have gotten.

The $200/night at HWV is before taxes so the deal is actually better than it appears. I don't look at Priceline rates as a valid comparison for the simple reason that I can't guarantee I will get a particular property nor do I qualify for things like upgrades and lounge access.
