Comments much appreciated in particular:
1) Seating for economy class
2) service
3) ease of purchasing ticket online
4) transit hotel in doha
In particular what are the cons/pros and also how does Qatar Airways compare with EK and Singapore Airlines

You might want to read through some of the Trip Reports on FlyerTalk or here: http://www.airlinequality.com/Forum/qatar.htm
P.s. - there is usually no transit hotel provided if you choose to stay over at DOH as many flights now connect through to final destination.
For simplicity, I always book QR flights through travel agents as they have better ways of seeing availability than QR's website.
According to the schedule on Qatar Airways I have a stop over of abt 14hrs.
Would they provide a complimentary hotel like Emirates do.
Please advice your origin and destination and date of travel so that i can check the hotel eligibility for you.
Hi there,
Origin will be from singapore or kuala lumpur (not sure at this stage).
From singapore i will be at Doha for haltover for 22hrs.
Ticket will be economy restricted.
Just on side - does economy restricted allow me to get qmiles and also 23kg baggage?
Many thanks

We need to know exactly where you're going after Doha!
Yes you earn qmiles for all tickets. Though it may only be 50% mileage for certain restricted tickets. You automatically get 23kg baggage allowance anyway.

The amount of qmiles you achieve will depend on what routing you are travelling, booking class of the ticket and the membership tier. You may log to http://www.qatarairways.com/global/en/privilege-club-calculator-earn.page to check the mileage you will get.
The luggage allowance depends on where you will fly.
For North and South America will apply for the piece concept which you can carry 2 piece of luggage.
For other destination will apply to the weight concept.
Please got to http://www.qatarairways.com/global/en/baggage.page for luggage allowance information.
sorry i was flying on to jeddah but what difference does this have?
I thought it is number of hours haltover irrespective of destination

This might be a stupid question but do Qmiles expire at all? I know the status points do every calendar year but what abt the Qmiles?

Miles expire at the end of the 5th year after they were earned. In other words, those earned in 2012 are good to the end of 2017.

So let me get something straight.... right now on the website
SIN - JED = 7028 odd points for Economy Y class ticket
JED - SIN = 9370 odd points for Business C/J
= 16398 points
And they have the offer of earning 2000bonus miles on first booking.
Andwebsite says currently you need 35000miles for a free return SIN-DOH trip.
Is that right? SOunds too good to be true!

It depends on the booking class of your ticket. Go to http://www.qatarairways.com/global/en/privilege-club-calculator-earn.page
You will earn 2000 bonus miles for your first on-line booking.
Please remember that you need to join Privilege Club before you make your booking in order to qualify for the 2000 bonus miles, and, in any case, before you fly, as you cannot join then claim for flights already taken.

A new Member who flew the flight already taken can claim mileage within one month after he completes the jorney.

I was always under the impression that miles/points could not be claimed retrospectively. However, as that's not the case I stand corrected and apologise.
Members shall earn Qmiles from the date of enrolment in Privilege Club on Qatar Airways flights, and with Partner’ s Programmes as advised from time to time. Flights taken on Qatar Airways within 30 days prior to the date of enrolment into Privilege Club will be eligible for Qmiles.
However, it doesn't seem to be the same for points. No mention of claiming these retrospectively.
Qpoints are the currency used by Qatar Airways for a Member to qualify for each Membership Level in Privilege Club and may only be earned from the commencement of membership. Family Members are not eligible to earn Qpoints.
To avoid the process of claiming miles retrospectively, join before you fly if possible.
